A few weeks later, Connor picked up Janelle from school because Jude had to stay after school to grade projects. When Janelle got in the car, she was greeted by Emmalyn.

"Hi Janie!" Emmalyn exclaimed happily

Janelle smiled, "Hi Emmy." She turned to Connor, "Hi Dad." That was the first time she had called him 'dad'. She hadn't even called Jude 'papa' yet, but she'd been thinking about it.

"Hey Nelle." Connor greeted "How are you feeling about the visit with your brother?"

"Nervous." Janelle admitted

Emmalyn bit her lip nervously, "Daddy, is Janie's brother going to take her away from us?"

"I don't know, baby, I really don't know." Connor replied as he parked the car.

Upon arrived at social services, Janelle walked into the building where a social worker led her to Shawn, who was waiting patiently in a room. He actually looked really nice, Janelle observed, but she was still determined not to like him.

"Shawn, this is your sister Janelle." The social worker, August Grimaldi said "Now I'll leave you alone to get to know each other." Then he left the room.

"It's nice to finally meet you, Janelle." Shawn told her

Janelle stared at him, "I've been in foster care since I was two. I'm finally happy and safe, so why? Why now?"

"I didn't know about you until a couple months ago." Shawn explained "Our biological mother abandoned me, just like she abandoned you. Except I was lucky because I had my father. I'm so sorry that you weren't as lucky."

"Yeah. Me too." Janelle muttered as she looked down.

Shawn swallowed softly, "So...what do you want to talk about?"

"I don't really want to be here. I just want to be home with my dads and my little sister. I don't want to know you." Janelle told him

"I'm sorry you feel that way, but I can't give you up." Shawn replied "Please, just give me a chance. You're my only sibling and I swear I would have been there for you the moment I turned eighteen if knew about you."

Janelle sighed, "Well I've finally been learning how to read. I have dyslexia."

"Me too." Shawn added "Reading sucks, huh?"

Janelle shrugged, "I hated it in the beginning, but it's not too bad anymore. My sister Emmalyn...she loves when I read to her. She has me read her everything. Whether it's the instructions on my homework or her bedtime story."

"How old is Emmalyn?" Shawn wondered

"She's almost five." Janelle told him. She furrowed her eyebrows as it had just dawned on her that he hadn't reacted to her saying 'dads', "Wait? You didn't react when I said my dads? Why not?"

Shawn shook his head, "I'm gay, so I don't have a problem with it.

Janelle have a nod, but didn't say anything. She didn't want to admit that she kind of liked her brother. At least enough to give him a chance.

Meanwhile at Callie and AJ's house when Scottlynn arrived home, Callie had gotten off work early, but AJ was working late. Scottlynn tried to sneak in through the front door and then quietly rush upstairs, but then Callie caught her.

"Stop right there, young lady." Callie spoke sternly

Scottlynn froze and then turned around, "Uh hey Callie."

"Where have you been? What are you doing at the library every Wednesday after school?" Callie questioned

"Just studying and doing homework. There's a study group on Wednesdays at four." Scottlynn explained

Callie gave a nod, "So if I call the library, they'll confirm your story." Scottlynn just looked away. Callie nodded, "That's what I thought. You know, I can always get your grandmom to question you. At let me tell you from experience, she will know when you are lying. So you can tell me the truth, or get interrogated by her."

Scottlynn sighed, "Fine. I was volunteering. Helping with the children's reading program which is a program that teaches kids how to read."

"That's very sweet, but you're only sixteen. You'd need a parent or guardian to sign paperwork for your to be able to volunteer." Callie explained "What did you do?"

Scottlynn bit her lip, "I may have forged your signature. I'm sorry."

"I see. Well you're forgiven, but you're also grounded for two months. That means no phone, computer only for homework, and no having friends over. They only places you'll be going is to school and home." Callie informed "And you'll have to earn my trust back."

"What?! You can't do that!" Scottlynn exclaimed "This isn't my home. Plus the jokes on you, I don't have any friends."

"Yes I can." Callie spoke firmly "Now hand over your phone."

Scottlynn forcefully handed Callie her phone, "You're the worst! I can't wait to leave this place!" Then she stormed up the stairs.

Callie sighed as she stood at the bottom of the stairs with Scottlynn's phone in her hand. She kind of felt bad for the teen. She knew Scottlynn deserved to be grounded, but that wasn't what she felt bad about. It was the no friends thing that the teen had mentioned.
