Hiya! Tiana here! I told you I would be back quickly with a new chapter! Aren't you proud?
I sprained my knee and I have a cold so I've had loads of time to sit and bed and write.
I'm almost finished writing the entire beach story and it's all together about 4 chapters. I stretched a 15 minute episode into 4 chapters (40+ pages)... Only I can manage to do that.
But no matter! Grab a snack and enjoy this story!
FYI: I do not own OHSHC or the beach concept these next few chapters are based off of. Now that we got that out of the way, LEGGO!
Dani POV
After playing in the water with Haruhi and the rest of the girls, I stepped away and decided to relax in a beach chair. I snagged a chair a little distance away from the volleyball court and made myself comfy. I shut my eyes and let my body bask in the golden sun. I was starting to get really sweaty under my clothes.
I wish I could be in a bathing suit right now, cooling myself off in the ocean… but NOOOOOOO… I wish it was socially acceptable for me to take my shirt off right now…
I closed my eyes and was enjoy the warmth of the sun. I think I started to doze off at one point, but that was about to change. As I was relaxing I heard some far-off voices say "C'mon Hikaru! Not again!" and then "Look out!". They sounded so distant, so I didn't think I should be concerned. Suddenly…
THUMP
The volleyball hit me square in my noggin with much force. It startled me so much I flailed my arms and fell out of my chair, getting covered with sand in the process.
Are you kidding me right now?! Those damn twins…
My head was throbbing. I laid on the ground, trying to piece together what just happened. I saw a pair of red headed twins started running towards me. "Oh my gosh, Dani! Are you alright?" Kaoru said, stooping over to pick me up. I felt Hikaru start to dust off the sand on me. "I am so sorry! Are you okay? That ball hit you pretty hard!" Hikaru said, feeling my head. His hand was cool and rough. I hit it away lightly. "Yeah I'm fine you guys, just be more careful okay?" I said, returning to my chair. The twins shrugged their shoulders. The girls that were playing volleyball with Hikaru and Kaoru ran over to comfort me. I calmed them down, insisting I was okay, and gave the volleyball to one of the girls. They all went back and started playing, while Hikaru and Kaoru stayed behind with me. I struck up a conversation.
"Did you guys know about Kyoya's plan for this weekend?" I asked, brushing off the rest of the sand on my body.
"No, we had no idea!" They said in unison. "I can't believe he fooled us.-" Hikaru said. "-Who'd have thought he'd bring the ladies with us-?" Karou interrupted. "-We certainly didn't expect it." Hikaru finished.
I always found it weird how they could finish each other's sentences and thoughts. Twin powers maybe? Voodoo? The world may never know…
I nodded. "I had no idea either. It was a pretty dirty move if you ask me. I don't know about you, but I was really excited to go on vacation." I told them honestly. They nodded as well, "Yeah, we noticed." I looked at them with a confused look. Before they could give me an answer though, Kyoya came out of nowhere and interrupted us. "You were invited on this all-expenses-paid vacation for a reason and that is to keep our clients entertained." He said, sipping his drink. I nearly fell out of my chair again.
"Damn, Kyoya! You could announce yourself, that would be nice!" I yelled. Hikaru and Kaoru laughed at me and I gave them a mean look. After they regained themselves, they answered Kyoya "We know. But with the ladies here, Haruhi can't change to her swimsuit." They said. I rolled my eyes. "Oh come on you guys, you gotta be kidding me. What is up with your obsessions with Haruhi? You guys are just a bunch of perverts…" I said, leaning back in my chair to try and get comfy again. "I agree with you, Dani. My little angel shouldn't be prancing around in her swimsuit, at least not in front of two perverts like you." Tamaki said, appearing next to me in another beach chair. I was startled once again.
"I swear to God guys! You're all gonna give me a freakin' heart attack!" I yelled, getting up from my chair. Hikaru and Kaoru started rolling on the ground laughing, and I even saw Kyoya crack a smile.
With all the guys around me, I'm never going to be able to relax… Sigh…
I left the group of boys and walked over towards the rocks. I decided to climb up the rocks and try to get a better view of the beach and get away from the boys. I found a perfect place to sit after a few moments of climbing; I could see the oceans for miles and I could see the entire beach from my spot.
This spot is perfect! It's quiet, beautiful, and away from teenage boys who thinks it's hilarious to startle me…
I sat down crossed-legged and looked around. I could see the girls on the beach and the boys interacting with them. I saw the waves crashing against the rocks below me and spraying ocean water every which way. I had a view of the entire beach, which led to me seeing some rather interesting sights. The most interesting sight I saw were a bunch of men in uniforms hauling sand creatures in buckets out of a huge truck out onto the sand. What on earth were they doing putting shellfish on the beach? I soon got my answer after I looked on the other side of the beach and saw Hunny running around, digging up these shellfish and collecting them. He was collecting shells, urchins, crabs, and he looked so proud of himself. He was like a kid on Christmas! Seeing him made me smile and feel warm and happy inside.
Zander really loved the beach too… He especially loved playing in the sand and building sandcastles…
Hunny caught sight of me on my rock and started waving frantically. "Lookie Dani-Chan! Look at all the shellfish I caught!" He jumped up and down and swung a small bucket of shells and crabs. I waved back and yelled "That's awesome Hunny- Sempai! I'm proud of you!" He started running over to me, yelling "C'mon Dani! Help me find some more! Please Please Please?" He said excitedly. How could I resist? "Hold on Hunny-Sempai! I'm coming down right now!" I shouted down to him. He waited patiently as I slowly climbed down the rocks.
I'll have to remember where this place is! I'll come back later today, I bet the sunset looks breathtaking from up there!
When I got to the bottom though, I heard screaming from the other side of the huge rocks! I locked eyes with Hunny and we dropped everything and ran to see what was going on. When we got to the other side of the rocks we saw the girls, along with Hikaru and Kaoru, running around frantically and yelling. I stopped a girl and asked her what was going on. "Dani! Tamaki is holding a centipede! It's so scary!" She yelled. I stared at the girl for a few moments,
A… A Centipede?
All this fuss over a centipede?
You gotta be kidding me.
I rolled my eyes and walked towards Tamaki, who was holding a crab and looking like a deer caught in some headlights. Haruhi was also standing near him, looking as disappointed as I did. "Haruhi, do you want to get the centipede, or do you want me to?" I asked, walking up to her. She rolled her eyes. "I got it." She said nonchalantly, plucking the Centipede from the crab and walking to throw it on the rock. "Be carefully Haruhi, it can smell fear!" I yelled to her. She doubled over laughing as she threw the centipede far away and walked back towards us. I helped calm the girls down and got them back to enjoying themselves. A lot of the girls were fanning over Haruhi, calling her manly and brave, and it took every fiber in my body to not roll on the ground laughing. After the excitement died down, Haruhi walked away with Hunny to find some more shellfish, while I stayed to help a traumatized Tamaki. He seemed traumatized by the whole bug incident. While I talked to Tamaki and attempted to pull the crab out of his fists, the twins approached us. "Hello boys, glad to see you're back to your manly selves." I smirked, poking fun at them. They ignored my comment. "Well, isn't that just great?" Hikaru said. "Haruhi is not normal. I thought girls were afraid of bugs." Kaoru said. "Well that isn't sexist at all, you guys. I thought all boys were supposed to not be afraid of anything and kill the bugs for the scared, meek little girls." I told them, finally snatching the crab out of Tamaki's clenched hands"Okay, there's no need for that, ya punk." Hikaru said, sticking his tongue out of me. I did the same back. "Besides, I'm not afraid of bugs either, so that totally debunks your stereotype. So there!" I said to the group. "That's dumb! You two are just weird…" Hikaru said. "We're not weird Hikaru, we're just afraid of different things… and bugs are not one of them!" I said, walking the crab near the water and setting it down on some rocks. "I'm sure she's afraid of something..." Tamaki said in a quiet voice, still rather shaken up. I saw Hikaru and Kaoru's face light up, and they look at each other with smiles that reeked of mischief.
Oh no… what do these two have up their sleeves?
Together the twins started circling Tamaki, saying "Hey boss, listen up. We just thought up a new game to play that could be a lot of fun. What do you say? It's called the "Who can find Haruhi's weakness" game. So think you're up to it?" I rolled my eyes at them. "That's so stupid guys…"
I think I've rolled my eyes so much today, I'm surprised they haven't fallen out of my head yet…
Tamaki stood up to Hikaru and Kaoru, "But that game sounds terrible." He said. I nodded my head in agreement. "Don't get caught up in their shenanigans, Sempai. You don't need to play a game like that." I said to Tamaki, giving the twins a look of disapproval. They made faces back at me. I grabbed Tamaki's arm and started pulling him away from the twins when I heard one of them speak up. "Yeah, I guess you guys are right," Hikaru said mockingly, "Besides she'd only share her weakness with someone she was really close to." They boys started walking away, and I felt Tamaki's arm tense up in my hand.
Don't do it Tamaki, stay strong buddy!
Before I could react, Tamaki broke free from me and ran over to Hikaru and Kaoru with new determination. "What are the rules?" Tamaki asked desperately.
Damn it…I'm six types of disappointed in you, Sempai…
I sighed and walked back over to the huddle of boys. Hikaru and Kaoru were explaining the rules of their little game to Tamaki. "-Whoever finds out her weakness first wins." Kaoru was finishing as I stepped up to them. "You can't be serious. You all are so desperate." I said resting my elbow on Kaoru's shoulder. "And I have the perfect prize for the game's lucky winner." I heard a voice say directly behind me. I jumped about 50 feet in the air.
Kyoya… Jesus I almost had a heart attack… If I die, you're gonna be the first person the police come looking for.
Kyoya was standing behind me holding up some pictures of a pretty girl with long brown hair in different school related uniform. On closer inspection, I saw that the pretty girl in the pictures was the one and only Haruhi Fuijoka, probably from her younger years.
What a precious little patoot!
"Awh! What a cutie Haruhi was!" I said, snatching a picture out of Kyoya's hand to get a better look at fetus Haruhi. Suddenly, 3 pairs of hands reached over me and tried to make a grab at the photograph! Using my ninja skills, I ducked past them and ran up next to Kyoya, photograph still in hand. The twins and Tamaki were nearly drooling over the photographs.
Wow… these guys have reached a new level of pathetic…
"We wanna play too!" Hunny suddenly said. He was standing with Takashi in his pink floaty. I smiled at his innocence, then an realization suddenly hit me. "Hey, Sempai, where did you get these pictures of Haruhi?" I asked, handing the photograph back to him. Kyoya took it back and said, "I have my sources. How about we just leave it at that for the moment?" I looked at him with a quizzical look. "Stalking once again, are we Sempai? Couldn't you use your researching powers for something more useful?" I asked jokingly. He gave me glare, but I could tell he enjoyed my little poke at him. "Oh, before we start Danielle, I assume you already know what Haruhi is afraid of?" Kyoya asked me. I shrugged my shoulders. "Yeah, she told me a while ago, why?" The boys looked at me with surprise. "Well, that means you aren't allowed to play or help out in any way. Got it?" He said. I shrugged again. "Whatever you say, I wasn't going to play your game anyways. I'll see you guys later I guess." I walked away from the group and started back towards the rocks.
That game is so stupid…If you just ask Haruhi, I'm sure she would be willing to tell any of them that she is afraid of thunderstorm. Okay, maybe not the twins… but you get the point.
I walked down the beach for a while and climbed up the rock formation back to the spot I found earlier that day and sat down facing towards the ocean. It was later afternoon, and in a few hours, I would have that perfect view of the sunset I've been wanting to see. I stared at the clouds creating figures in the sky as they rolled by. I watched the waves roll near the shore and splash against the rocks below. I listened to wind blow and the birds chirp above me.
This is the most peaceful I've felt in a while… Maybe I'll ask Kyoya if I can take my mom up here one day. She would love it…
"Hey! Who's up here?" I heard a voice say, pulling me out of my daydream. I quickly turned to see a certain red head climbing up the rock and onto the surface I was sitting on. "Oh! Hey Dani, I didn't know it was you up here." Hikaru said standing on the rock. "Yeah, it's just me. I found this spot early today. It's quiet…" There was a pause between us. I blushed and looked away. I wasn't really sure what to do, since I normally don't talk to Hikaru by himself. Whenever I talk to him, his brother is normally around. We text sometimes, but this was different. It was a strange interaction. Finally, I cleared my throat and asked him "Do you wanna sit down?" "Yeah, yeah, sure…" He stuttered, walking over and sitting next to me. "I was walking to the other side of the beach to meet Kaoru, but I noticed someone up here, so I wanted to see who it was." He said quickly, stuttering on some of the words nervously. "Nothing exciting is up here. It's just me and the view." I said, looking out onto the water. Our feet dangled over the edge of the cliff, and we looked out at the horizon together. We sat in silence, but surprisingly it wasn't that awkward. It was calming almost. Our silence lasted a few moments until Hikaru said "It's nice up here Dani." I looked over at him and smiled. "Yeah, it really is. It's a perfect place to get away from all the craziness of the beach below. You can see for miles. I especially like looking at the sky and the clouds." I said. I glanced over the sky and found an interesting cloud. "See?" I said, pointing to the left of Hikaru's head, " That one over there looks like a bear with a rose. And that one looks like a treasure chest. And that one, I think it looks like a dragon that has fire breath! And that one.." I started to trail off. I was starting to feel embarrassed with how much I was talking about the clouds.
What are you even doing Danielle… what an awkward bean you are…
It was quiet for a minute until Hikaru spoke. "Why did you stop? What did you think that one looked like?" He asked, pointing to one of clouds. "To me, it looks like a coin." He said. "Really? I thought it looks like a bird flying through a rainbow. Don't you see it?" He squint harder at the cloud and shook his head. "Nope, still looks like a coin…" He said. I giggled at him. "Well you have no creativity…" "Well, I guess you'll need to help me, what does that cloud look like to you?" He asked, looking at me with a smile. I felt my cheeks go pink.
This is really weird… I've never seen Hikaru like this before. It's really… endearing. I wish I could see this side of him more often.
We spent a few more minutes looking at clouds and figuring out what they looked like. When Hikaru said one of the clouds looked like Tamaki's angry face, I was holding my sides laughing. We both laughed and quieted down into another comfortable silence. I made glances at Hikaru every once in while. I noticed how his fiery hair got caught in the wind, and how toned his arms were. His amber eyes shone in the sunlight and were extremely captivating. I looked down to see our hands precariously close to each other. Out of nowhere, I felt the sudden urge to slightly move my hand to touch his. I slowly inched my hand towards his, but I stopped myself at the last minute.
Dafaq? What are you doing girl? Get your shit together!
I quickly stared back at the water, trying to be as natural as possible. We sat in silence some more, admiring the sight before us. I wanted to say something, but nothing would actually come out when I opened my mouth. Suddenly, the silence was shattered by someone yelling down below. "Hikaru? Where are you? Are you up there on that rock?" We heard Kaoru yell. Hikaru scrambled up and ran to the other edge of the cliff. "Yeah I'm up here! Sorry, I got distracted!" He yelled down to his brother. "I've been waiting for ten minutes, Hikaru! Let's go! People are waiting!" Kaoru shouted annoyingly. Hikaru looked back at me, then called out "I'll be right there! Hold on!" I stood up and walked over to Hikaru. "Whatcha heading to do now?" I asked. "We're going to a cave on the other side of the beach. That's our first place we're going to try and scare Haruhi. We got a group together…" Hikaru said, not looking in any rush to leave and meet his brother. "Oh, you're still doing that?" I said, obviously not impressed, "Well have fun." I turned away from him and went to sit back down in my spot.
Back to reality, I guess… I knew that moment couldn't last forever… But it felt so refreshing and nice.
I continued to stare at the water, but was focusing on the experience I just had with Hikaru. It was silent on the rock except for the ocean sounds so I assumed Hikaru climbed back down the wall to join his brother in whatever shenanigans he was going to get into to win Haruhi's heart. After a few moments, Hikaru said, "Hey, um.. I bet… I bet the sunset looks great from up here." He stuttered. I jumped a little, surprised to hear him, and turned to look at him. "That's actually one of the first things I thought of when I found this spot! Yeah, The sun's gonna set right over there." I said, pointing to the horizon near the water. Finally, after looking rather uncomfortable, he managed to say "Maybe.. Maybe we can hang out together later before dinner and watch the sunset. I don't know… maybe it would be fun…"
Well this is certainly a surprise… Is Hikaru just being friendly? I can't really tell…
"Umm… Sure Hikaru! We should watch the sunset tonight. It will be a good time!" I said with a smile. Hikaru smiled back. "Cool! Umm.. I'll meet you here later then." He said awkwardly. Without much of a goodbye, he turned and started scaling the rock down to the bottom. I turned back to the ocean and tried to decipher what just happened.
Hikaru just random spent the last ten minutes with me, and he's acted like I've never seen him before. He's usually very "I'm so cool and IDGAF" but just then he was awkward and dorky…
I wonder what's gotten into him?
I turned to look back at the water with lots of different and confusing emotions churning inside me. All I could think about was Hikaru and how comfortable he was with me, and how comfortable I was with him. I thought us laughing together and our hands almost touching. It sent shivers down my spine. Then I remembered his obsession with Haruhi and what he left me to do, and I felt this burning in my chest. I felt blood rise to my cheeks and I felt… anger?
Am… Am I.. jealous right now?
I think a better question to ask than "What's gotten into Hikaru" is: What has gotten into ME?!
Quick Kaoru POV:
I paced at the bottom of the cliff for a few minutes, waiting for my brother to come down.
Jesus, Hika! I've been waiting forever now! We don't want to keep Haruhi waiting!
I saw Hikaru starting to climb down the cliff, occasionally pausing to look back up at the ledge. He was taking his sweet old time. I called up to him. "Hikaru! C'mon! You're so slow!" He glanced down at me and started to climb even slower.
Okay wow, way to be a child.
I rolled my eyes and sighed loudly. Eventually, Hikaru made it to the bottom of the cliff. "Finally! C'mon Hika! Haruhi and the other girls are waiting for us." I said. He jumped down the last bit of rock and started to walk away from me. "Hikaru!" I yelled, running up to him. "What's gotten into you? Who was up there?" He didn't respond, instead he kept walking and looking forward. I noticed how red Hikaru's face was.
What is up with him? Why is his face flushed? Is he blushing?
"Hikaru," I said, stepping in front of him. He tried to avoid my eyes, but I forced him to look up at me, "Are you okay?"
Hikaru squirmed uncomfortably. "Yeah, Kaoru, I'm fine. Don't worry." He said, trying to avoid the conversation. I pressed on. "Who was on the cliff, Hikaru? Why are you blushing?" I asked. He covered up his cheeks. "Blushing?! I'm- I'm not blushing!" He said embarrassingly. "Yes, you are Hikaru," I said, unimpressed, "You can't trick me, bro. Just tell me!" Hikaru looked down and started pushing around some sand near him.
"It was… It was Dani…" He said quietly
"Dani?" I asked. "Well that's not too bad! Why didn't you want to tell me that?"
Hikaru hesitated, then shook his head. "Just forget it Kaoru…" He said, pushing past me.
"Hikaru!" I yelled, running back up to him "Just talk to me!"
"I'm just confused, Kao. Leave me alone."
Leave him alone? He's never told me to do that….
I looked at my twin brother, obviously hurt. He walked a little distance away from me, paused, then slowly turned around.
"Hika…" I whispered.
"I don't like these feelings…" Hikaru said quietly. "I… I'm confused… I..."
"Feelings? What kind of feelings?" I asked, stepping towards him cautiously.
Hikaru continued to blush and stare at the ground. I started to piece together the situation.
"Is this about Dani? Do you…?" I began to say.
"I don't know! Just forget it okay?" He said, starting to walk away from me again. I was very confused for a split second about Hikaru's behavior. Suddenly, it hit me.
Ohh...
So he likes her too, huh?
I see where this is going… Oh Hikaru… I guess someone else has been able to enter our little world… just like Haruhi… But this girl seems different… I wonder when you'll actually admit to yourself that you like her…
"C'mon! Let's go get Haruhi, we gotta win the game!" He yelled over his shoulder, returning to his normal demeanor. I snapped out of thought to realize how far Hikaru had walked in just a few moments. I ran to catch up with him.
I won't ask about Dani anymore. I guess I'll play along with him for now… and just see how this all unfolds.
"Wait for me! We gotta scared Haruhi together!"
Well... That happened!
I can't wait to see what unfolds between a certain red head and the protagonist!
