Chapter 25
? POV
"But from now on we will deal with this together, I will not let him hurt you ever again. Okay?" Tobias says. Although I am at a distance I can see Tris smiling, as she replies "Okay." I turn my back and quickly press myself into the shadows, as they walk straight past me hand in hand.
Over these past weeks I have become used to hiding myself in the shadows, and watching their every move. Although I'm not exactly sure why I need to be watching them 24/7. David says it is imperative that I do, and then report back to him daily on what I find. He seems like a nice man, and says it's a part of a new behavioural analysis program. As he offered me large sums of money to get myself set up inside the city, it seemed like an offer that was too good to refuse.
Everything is still kind of new to me, especially way that the people here live their lives. I mean David explained the basics of everything that had happened around here recently: the breakdown amongst order in this city, all the stuff that went down at the Bureau. It's all really confusing to say the least. The genetically pure and the genetically damaged rebels.
My phone begins to vibrate in my pocket, and with a sigh I pull it out as I know exactly who it is. "David, Hello" I answer. "What can I do for you?"
"You can give me a progress update on the subjects," David says. I hesitate before answering, as I try to recall what I've just been watching for the last five minutes. It's been hard for my mind to put small things together and I struggle with the smallest of things like this. According to David it was because of the memory reset.
"Well Tris told him about your letters," I say. "And they are becoming suspicious of me watching them." I can hear the disappointment in his tone event though we are on the phone. "So I guess it's not what you wanted to hear then?"
"No not really, I didn't think she would ever tell him. Not after my letters…" his voice trailed off. There's something he's not telling me, I can tell. "If you don't mind me asking, what exactly did you say to her in those letters?" The other end of the phone remains silent. "I mean… whatever they were genuinely seemed scared about it."
"They were just a reminder of something that Tris still owes me that's all," David replies. "She's a crucial part of a… medical study we are undergoing, and she won't replied to my letters to come in for testing."
"Oh, okay," I reply slowly.
"Anyway that is completely irrelevant to your job," he says. "The next thing I need you to do is try and find out the date of their wedding."
"Why would you need to know that?" I ask curiously.
"Umm… it will show off a certain element of Tris's behaviour I need to know," David stammers. "Anyway it is not any of your business. I am paying you to monitor their behaviour and no more."
"Ok, I'm sorry. I will try and get back to you with the information by the end of the week." I reply solemnly.
"You had better." And without another word he put the phone down. Shrugging I quietly make my way out of the Dauntless compound. Out of site and out of sound.
Sorry this chapter was so short, it was more of a filler chapter. So who do you think this mystery person is? Leave your guesses in the review. I wont be updating again until I get 100 reviews, so here's a little challenge for you guys. So review for a new chapter, the plot only thickens from here.
