Chapter 23
Since the play, Edd decided to go visit his father. What Mr. Barr said to him really made an impression on him, and his father was very ecstatic to see him.
Peter decided to go back to being a history teacher. He just wasn't cut out for being an authority figure to an entire school. A classroom was plenty in his opinion. And the students welcomed him back. He didn't drink as much and his relationship with Kevin soon improved. Peter wasn't sure why he ever wanted to become a principal. Being a teacher was what he was meant to do.
It was a bright, sunny day in May when Kevin made his way over to the Vincent mansion. He rang the doorbell, and was greeted by the smiling face of Miranda, who at this point was used to the face of her son's boyfriend.
He returned the smile. "Hello Miranda."
"Hello Kevin. Eddward is at the piano. Would you like anything to drink or eat?"
"No ma'am, I'm fine."
"I'll be upstairs then."
Kevin followed the sound of showtunes and found Edd immersed in a fast-paced, energetic rendition of a song Kevin had heard before but couldn't quite think of the name. He went up to Edd, wrapping his arms around a thin waist and nuzzling raven hair.
Edd jumped. "It's not polite to interrupt a piano player."
"I love you, Eddward Vincent," Kevin whispered.
"I love you, Kevin Barr," Edd responded, a smile tugging at his lips.
"What are you doing today?"
"I have an interview."
"For what?"
"I must say, of all the kids applying for a summer internship, you have quite a checkered history," the headmaster of the psychiatric institute mused.
Edd nodded. "I understand. I'm sure you have a plethora of applicants with perfect backgrounds and no disciplinary record. However, I'd jump hurdles to work here, and I'm eager to prove it to you, sir."
The man smiled. "Well, let's get on with the interview. I've got a hell of a day ahead of me."
"Would you like to talk about it?"
Spoken like a true psychiatrist.
The End.
