Chapter 25:

Dani POV-

Today is Thursday, so my first week of school is almost over.

I really hope that this isn't going to end up being my only week of school.

I didn't get much sleep last night so I was really groggy as I got ready to go to school.

"Good morning," Honey smiled cheerfully as I slumped into the kitchen.

"Good morning," I replied, feeling exhausted.

She drove me to school in almost complete silence.

"Have a good day at school," she called as I got out of the car.

"Thanks," I replied.

"Hey," Ricky greeted me when I walked up to her seated in front of our classroom as usual.

"Hey," I replied.

"Are you okay?" she asked me, picking up on my tired tone.

I planned to tell her what had happened last night between Dash and me (leaving out anything that had to do with Dash's secret of course) because I knew that she'd be able to help me work through some things. I opened my mouth to speak, but just then a few more students showed up.

"Yeah, I'm fine," I told her, faking a smile. She didn't seem to believe me but she must have picked up on the fact that I couldn't talk about it now.

During class Ricky mostly had a one-sided conversation with me, with me only occasionally making sounds of agreement.

Finally Ricky sighed in irritation.

"Okay, what's up?" she asked under her breath.

Because I really didn't want to risk being overheard by the entire class about what had happened what had happened with Dash and me last night—especially with Lydia sitting a few seats away eyeing me suspiciously—I pulled out a piece of paper.

I kissed Dash last night, I wrote before folding the paper and sliding to her.

Her eyes widened, and then she gave me a smug look that made me blush. Thankfully she didn't say anything as she quickly scribbled something down and passed it back to me.

Tell me everything, she replied.

After class, I wrote back, knowing that I wouldn't be able to express everything I wanted to tell her on a piece of paper.

Okay, she agreed finally.

I noticed Lydia watching us—not even trying to be subtle—and I sensed what she was about to do so I quickly scribbled down a fake note.

"Mr. Asher, Dani and Ricky are passing notes," Lydia announced.

'Ugh she's such a little snitch,' I thought, glaring at her. She smirked at me, probably thinking she was going to hear some kind of big secret from our note—and she would have, if I hadn't had the foresight to write a fake note.

Mr. Asher seemed to be more annoyed with Lydia's interruption than he was with the fact that we were passing notes. Nevertheless he sighed and walked over to us.

"You know the rules girls, hand it over," he sighed.

I handed him my fake note, having already slipped the real one into one of my binders. Ricky obviously didn't realize that I had written a fake note because her eyes widened in horror, knowing the note would be read aloud to the whole class.

Mr. Asher cleared his throat.

"'Did you want to come over to my house and study tonight?' 'I can't I have to go to youth group at church. Do you want to come?' 'Sure, what time?' 'It starts at seven. I'll pick you up,'" Mr. Asher read in a bored tone of voice.

"Well," he announced, "as fascinating as that is, Lydia, perhaps you should pay more attention to what I'm teaching and less to what your classmates are doing," the entire class giggled. He looked at Ricky and me, "No more notes, girls."

"Yes sir," we replied in unison.

"You are a genius," Ricky mouthed to me.

I grinned for the first time all morning. Despite my exhaustion, it felt good to make Lydia look like an idiot.

Ten minutes later the bell rang and Ricky and I started walking to class. Once we arrived in the art room, Ricky pulled me into the supply room and shut the door.

"Okay," she crossed her arms, "tell me everything."

"There's really not much to tell," I blushed, "We were working on our project and it just kind of happened," I lied protecting Dash's secret.

"Did he kiss you back?" she asked with a smug grin.

I nodded, blushing even redder.

"That's good!" she exclaimed, but when she noticed that I wasn't as excited as she was she asked, "Why do you seem so nervous?"

"Because it's like I don't know where this leaves us, you know? Like are we dating? Should I even ask if we are?" I groaned in frustration.

"Oh, I see. You should probably just ask him. Don't do it in front of his friends or anything because then he probably won't give you a straight answer," she advised.

"Okay," I agreed. That made sense, it didn't solve all of my problems but it helped with one.

"Is there something else bothering you?" she asked.

"Yeah…" I frowned, "What if I'm getting too close and he ends up getting hurt?"

"I wouldn't worry about it too much. Everybody has to have a little heartbreak, I mean sure he might get hurt if you guys break up but he'll get over it," she shrugged.

"That's not what I meant," I told her, she looked at me, confused. "If Vlad finds me here, everyone I know is in danger just because they know me; you, Dash, the Best's, you are all in danger because of me."

"Oh," Ricky said, not sure how to react. She had been so excited when she learned my secret, but now I got the feeling that she finally realized how much it costs to be a part of this life.

The bell rang for class to start and Ricky ad I exited the supply closet and took our seats.
