Reviews:
Annabeth-TheTributeThatLived: Yeah, that was my reaction to Lewis dying in The Manipulation Games.
Lya200: And the others follow soon. Rest in peace, everyone who has already died in this story and everyone who will die.
Gabby Delacour: The closest Rose will get to killing is hunting for food, and fighting Atlas in a later chapter. Yeah, I'm not sure if she's already put Rose in her story or not but she will soon. Thanks!
Meeeeee: Thank you! That was probably one of the saddest things I'll ever write, except for the final two Tributes in these Games.
On with the story!
Rose
I'm jolted awake once again by Bambii's screams.
"Your turn," Linda mumbles from her place beside me.
I groggily get up, walking over to Bambii. After the hovercraft took Zinc away, we found a place not very far from the rose meadow. We set up camp here, and we divided up our stuff between us, in case we get separated. We weren't sure what to do with Zinc's trident, but Bambii insisted on keeping it. So she's carrying it around. We each got a backpack, which contains a bit of food, a canteen of water, and some other assorted things. We also each get a sleeping bag. Well, there were actually only three. Linda and I share one. I suppose that Bambii and Zinc would've shared one, too, if he was still here.
This is the third time that Bambii's woke up in the past five hours. We've been taking turns all night with going over and comforting her. It's my turn again, it seems. When I get over to her, she shakily looks up at me. I sit down beside her, not wanting a repeat of last time.
"It's my fault," she mumbles shakily, burying her face into her sleeping bag.
"What is?" I ask.
"Zinc…" she mumbles, before beginning to cry. "He…Atlas… and…"
I put my hand on her shoulder, trying to comfort her. I slowly begin putting the pieces together. Even though I do, Bambii feels the need to continue talking.
"Atlas was about to kill me… I don't know how it happened… Zinc ran up and knocked Atlas's… his weapon… out of his hands…"
"How did he get hurt?" I ask.
"An arrow came out of nowhere. Zinc blocked it from getting to me… I started freaking out… and…"
Her throat becomes dry, and she muffles the rest of her words with the sleeping bag.
"Have you ever just wanted to change history? Go back in time, and make things turn out differently?" she asks in a voice barely above a whisper. "I do. I want to make a difference. Maybe… maybe if I had stopped my mom from going to the store that day… she could still be here… alive, at least… and none of this could've happened. It could have made a difference…"
"But then what?" I ask.
"What?"
"Then what? After you stopped your mom? You would have never met me. You would have never met Linda or Amor. Never would've met your mentors. You never would have met Zinc."
"It would have been better than him being dead… because of me…"
"You don't think you'll get out, right?" I ask her.
"Of course not. I could never be a Victor…"
"Then you'll see him again. When you die, you two will be together again."
"I guess so…" she sniffs, although I can tell that she's feeling better. Not completely- far from it- but it's a start.
And a start is all we can ask of her right now.
Small chapter is small. By the way, I'm a few chapters into posting another fanfiction, if anyone wants to check it out. It's about the first Quarter Quell, and you can find it on my profile.
Eternity is a long time; whether it will be joyful or distressing is entirely up to you.
Still can't think of an ending sign,
