Chapter 24
I came home from work exhausted.
"Puck!" Samantha sang.
I went into the kitchen and opened the fridge and began jugging down milk straight from the carton.
"Puck!" Samantha scolded me. "We all drink out of that!"
I shrugged and lifted it to my mouth to keep drinking.
"Hey!" Samantha snatched to the carton from my hands, "I have to tell you something!"
My eyes widened. "Wait, you took Lucas to the doctor today didn't you?" I asked. "Is something wrong with him?!"
"Oh my gosh no, Puck, Lucas is perfectly fine!" Samantha assured me.
"Oh," I sighed and closed the fridge, "you had me worried for a second there."
"No, this news is a lot better!" Samantha told me.
I raised my eyebrows. "Should I be scared?" I asked.
Samantha rolled her eyes. "I don't know, I guess it all depends on how you take it," she replied.
I narrowed my eyes at her. "What's up, Sammy?" I asked.
Samantha grinned and began to pull me along.
"Oh no, you have to take me somewhere!" I groaned.
"Yeah, the couch." Samantha plopped down and pulled me down next to her.
"Well, if it's not about Lucas I'm not sure I really care," I teased.
"Well, this news will affect him," Samantha answered.
"OK, you'd better tell me, I'm starting to get scared," I mumbled.
Samantha leaned back on the couch. "You know how I haven't been feeling that well lately?" Samantha asked.
"Oh, that kinda makes more sense," I told her. "I thought you were just being lazy."
Samantha smacked my arm gently. "Puck, I'm being serious!" she exclaimed.
"But I don't like it when you're serious!" I whined back.
"Puck!" Samantha sat up again.
"OK, OK!" I held up my arms as if in defeat, "I'll be serious long enough for you to tell me whatever this is."
"Thank you," Samantha sighed.
"So what's up?" I asked again.
"OK, so you know how last week I started throwing up?" Samantha asked.
I frowned at the memory. "How can I, you blamed it on my cooking!" I answered.
Samantha giggled. "Yeah, I know but-"
"The one time I try to do something nice for you and all you do is complain!" I couldn't help interrupting.
"I know, I'm sorry!" Samantha apologized and put her hand on my cheek. "I was only teasing you, I didn't know you would take it so seriously."
"Yeah, whatever," I muttered.
Samantha took a deep breath and took both my hands. "Puck, I'm pregnant."
I stared at her for a couple of seconds. "WHAT?!"
Samantha beamed brightly and nodded. "Since I was already at the hospital, I decided to go get a check up for myself," she explained. "And Michael told me I was pregnant!"
I frowned. "Michael was the one who gave you a check up?" I asked.
"Oh c'mon, Puck, how many times do I have to tell you that he's just my friend?" Samantha exclaimed.
I crossed my arms. "I don't care how many times you have to tell me that, I still won't like him," I replied.
Samantha sighed and opened her mouth to say something.
"Wait, how the hell are you pregnant?!" I cried out. "The last time we-!"
"I'm already three months!" Samantha told me.
"So it was the night you came back," I mumbled more to myself than her.
"Puck, isn't this wonderful?" Samantha squealed and took my hands again.
"I didn't expect to have another baby so soon," I muttered.
"But think of how cool it'll be for Lucas and the new baby!" Samantha told me. "They'll both always have someone to play with!"
I couldn't help smiling. "That's how it was with me and Mustardseed, although we're two years apart," I murmured.
Samantha changed positions and leaned her head against my shoulder. "I know it'll be difficult at first," she told me. "But I'm sure Lucas will love having someone to play with as he gets older."
I gently pushed Samantha against the back of the couch and set my hand on her stomach. "Then let's hope it's another boy," I replied.
Samantha put her hand on top of mine. "I'm sure he'd love a little sister too," she answered.
"OK, but if it's a boy, we're not gonna name him Michael, you hear me?" I told her.
Samantha grinned. "If you insist."
