Tales of Past Times and Peering Out
"Obviously, my brother is very skilled in the workings of magic. He has mastered such things as illusions and transformation, but he wasn't always so skilled." Loki cut him off, hoping to change the subject.
"Well, obviously, Thor Even you had to practice with your hammer before you were as skilled in battle. There is no need to relive those trying times. Move on." Thor shook his head as Tony shushed Loki.
"Aye, brother this is true. But those skills are quite different, leading to very different results if done improperly. My friends, have I ever told you that Loki can transform into a woman?" Steve was taking a sip of beer, but at that he was inhaling it instead, requiring Bruce to pat him on the back pretty hard. Natasha's eyebrow quirked up slightly, while Clint's brain just seemed to stall. Tony's eyes bugged out, and they could all tell that he was trying to figure out the 'mechanics', so to speak, of such a spell. Clint felt like a little kid with his next question.
"Can you show us?" Loki rolled his eyes at the mortals.
"I refuse. My magic is returning but not enough to handle such a transformation." Tony snorted.
"Well, were you hot?" Natasha was close enough to smack him upside the head, which got Loki to grin a bit. Then the younger prince stuck his nose in the air and with a haughty air declared,
"I'll have you know, I am the envy of every Asgardian woman in my female form." Then Tony's jaw dropped.
"You are definitely showing us your female form later." Thor was not to be deterred from the telling of his tale and called them all to order.
"Hush, my friends. You must cease useless chatter if you ever wish to hear this story." They all duly shut up and let the man continue. He nodded his head in thanks.
"Anyway, it was many centuries back, and my brother was not as strong in certain aspects of his magic. This fact, of course, led him to locking himself away in his room or spending days on end in Asgard's grand library to learn all he could. Then came practice. This is where my tale comes in..." Dramatic pauses were not the way to go with this crowd, which the Thunderer soon learned, when a pillow with the cry of "Well, come on " was flung at his head. He easily dodged the flying projectile and laughed off their impatience and continued.
"Alright, my friends. Be still. As I mentioned before, Loki can transform himself into a maiden. Well, it was a lovely day that I had spent out sparring with my fellow warriors. I was walking back to my chambers for much needed rest and heard a desperate cry coming from Loki's room. Fearing my brother had harmed himself with a spell once again, I rushed in."
"I was merely crying out in frustration. There was no need for you to come barreling in like a troop of Frost Giants were in my room." Thor playfully shoved Loki's knee.
"You sounded most upset, brother. I was concerned. In any case, I was now in the center of my brother's room, face to face with, not my brother, but a rather distraught young woman. I asked her what she was doing in my brother's chambers, and she glared at me and said,
'It's me you daft storm cloud Something went wrong with the spell, and I can't change back.' I didn't believe her at first, until she told me something only Loki would know." Again, he paused. Reminiscing. Clint was getting frustrated.
"Well, what did... he.. She? Tell you?" Thor took a moment before pulling himself out of his reverie. Then he blushed.
"I told him that he needed to stop prancing around the throne room with one eye covered up, pretending to be ou- our father when it was empty. Someone might tell the great All-father of his foolery and make him the court jester." Everyone snorted and laughed at how red Thor's face was getting. Then Tony raised a hand.
"How could Loki be the only one that would know that? Couldn't other people have taken a peek or something, and you just didn't see them?" Loki and Thor looked at each other, confused.
"I am very skilled in stealing away in the shadows, and the crown prince ordered that no one but the All-father and All-mother were to enter the throne room. NO one disobeys the crown prince." Steve whistled.
"Wow. Must have been quite a perk." Thor nodded, a silly smile on his face.
"Indeed. It can be quite advantageous at times. Back to the tale though. So, Loki was stuck in a female form, unable to change back. After searching his spell books for two days straight, he gave up and went to ask our mother what to do." Loki growled again.
"I merely conceded defeat for the moment, and saw the advantages of asking for help. I do not simply 'give up'." Clint threw a pillow at the cripple on the couch this time (seeing as it was Stark tower they had an extravagant number of pillows at their disposal. Loki caught the thing and hugged it tightly to his chest, laying his chin on top of it.
"Stop interrupting. I want to get to the good part." Loki snapped his jaw shut, figuring it was too late, and they were all going to here this embarrassing story anyway.
Heimdall looked out, out farther than he had before. The All-mother had informed him of the state of affairs down on Midgard and of the young prince's condition, while the gatekeeper was busy putting all of his energy into finding...something. He was now determined to find what had hidden the boy for so long from his sight.
It wasn't unusual for Loki to not appear in his vision; the trickster did know some tricks of concealment after all. But, when he fell, it was different. Normally Heimdall could still sense that Loki was in the universe even when he couldn't see him. Then, though, there was nothing. Absolutely nothing. So, he searched. Perhaps it was the Chitauri shielding their prisoner from sight. But as he peered out, there was nothing for him to find.
The only thing he saw...was darkness. And it wanted revenge.
