Chapter 25: Blood

Roy sat in the hospital outside Jean's room. When he had found the man he was barely holding onto the little life he had left in him. He was alive. Growling, he ran a hand through his hair as he nervously bounced his foot up and down. Eden was with his mom, Jean's in the hospital and Riza is missing. The rest of his team would be in the office in the morning and then what next. He needed to find Illun to make him pay for everything he has done but where was he going to find the maniac. The man only seemed to call him and appear when it benefited him and not Roy.

The doctor exited the room and informed him that despite the amount of blood the man originally lost that Jean was going to pull through. A Broken right leg, a shattered right shoulder and a few broken ribs were only a few of the physical injuries that they were able to access on the man. If there were any psychological injuries, they wouldn't be prevalent until he woke up. As for waking up, the doctor had no time limit as to when that was going to happen.

Sighing, Roy left the hospital with orders for the staff to contact him as soon as the man was awake. He slowly made his way back to the barracks where a few of the investigation team that had previously helped with locating Eden were working. Everything was being searched through for clues.

"Sir," a young man said as he saluted Roy. "We've found this in the bedroom."

"Thank you, major," he replied as he took the small envelope from the man. Flipping it over he ripped the envelope open and raised his eyebrows. "Another letter?" Quickly, he skimmed over the letter and smirked when he finished. "You've made a mistake Illun. I'll find you now." He looked up from the letter and called out to the major that had handed him the letter. "Major, I need you to find all of the records in regards to the new buildings that were built in the east end of town."

"Yes, sir."

"Everyone else, please let me know if you find anything new," he stated before he left to go back to the office.

...

"Eden, dear," Daphne started after they had moved the few things she had brought with her to the main house. "Are you alright?"

Eden sat on the couch in the living room with her hands on her stomach. She was looking down at her feet with a frown on her face. Glancing up she shook her head.

"No," she replied as she watched the woman sit next to her. "I'm not used to be this useless to him. Before everything happened I was always out doing something and now I can't help him."

Daphne put her arm around Ed's shoulders and drew her close. "You are helping him immensely by staying safe here with me," she stated with a smile. "I may not know everything that is going on but I do know that my son cares for you a great deal. Enough that if something were to happen to you now he would blame himself."

"The man he's after isn't going to be easy to beat," she whispered as a tear slid down her face. "I'm worried about him. I don't want Roy to get hurt."

The older woman wrapped her other arm around the girl and hugged her a bit. "Roy will be fine. He will be back to get you and then you three can go home and live happily."

Eden nodded against Daphne's shoulder before wrapping her arms around her and hugging back.

"Now, let's get you something to eat," the older woman said before giving the younger girl a squeeze and letting go. "We shall find you something to occupy your mind."

….

Roy

A month passed and Illun was still hiding, Riza was still missing and Jean was back at the office working with Roy. They wanted him to keep resting but the man was persistent that his injuries weren't that bad. Roy sat at Riza's desk in the outer office with a map of the city in front of him. Havoc on one side and Fuery on the other.

"General, we've checked nearly all of the buildings in the eastern portion of the city," Breda said from his desk. "Do you really think that Riza's there?"

"Breda, the letter that that I was given a month ago had the markings from the bar in eastern city," Roy replied, nodding. "Illun wants us to find him. He's playing a game because he's bored."

"Bored?" Fuery spoke now.

"Yes, he called last month and he told me was bored waiting for the baby to be born," he explained, pushing the map up a bit. "My guess is that this is the start of a game for him."

"But Eden's 7 months along already. He's got two months left to wait," Breda stated with a shake of his head. "What could he do to keep himself occupied for two months?"

"I don't want to know, Breda," Roy replied, "but the sooner we can find this guy, the sooner we can end the game and keep the girls safe."

The team nodded in unison.

"There's one last building we need to check out today and hopefully that's where Illun is hiding Riza," he stated as he stood. "Let's move out."

Eden

"Daphne!" Eden called out as she whipped her hands on the apron that was tied around her waist.

"What is it, dear?" The older woman asked as she entered the kitchen.

"I made us some lunch," she explained, gesturing to the food that was on the table. "I wanted to try to be helpful even though there's more and more that I am having trouble doing myself."

Daphne smiled before pulling the chair away from the table and motioning for her to sit. "You don't have to do anything you aren't able to," she stated before taking her own seat. "I'm sure that once she comes you and Roy will have your hands full so then I'll be there to help you so more."

"Everything is going faster than I thought it would," she said as she began to eat the sandwiches she had made. "I mean, I've never really ever thought I'd be in this situation. Never thought I'd be pregnant."

"Sometimes the blessings that we are given are at times when we least expect it," Daphne stated, reaching over and squeezing Eden's hand. "I think that even though this came out of something that was very terrible and scary you will be able to grow because of this. You have a wonderful child growing inside of you that will need you to protect it from whatever is out there. Roy is doing it right now, even before she's been born. He's protecting you both."

Eden smiled and nodded. "When my brother was little I was always watching out for him. I made some terrible mistakes that lead to more terrible things to happen to us but now he's married with two kids," she said before taking a sit of water. "I wouldn't have been able to it without Roy's help. I'm very grateful to him for before and for everything now. I'll find a way to repay him for this."

Shaking her head, Daphne took her hand back. "The only thing you need to do is stay with him. Roy loves you and he'll love that baby, too."

"I know."

"Come on, let's finish eating our lunch."

Roy

Roy and Jean stood on either side of the front door of the building. On the side of the building there were a few more troops while Fuery was in the building across the street, keeping radio contact with the headquarters. Nodding, Roy motioned for them to enter the building. The building inside was quiet and dark despite the early hours of the day. It was empty. No furniture in any of the rooms save for a few bookshelves that where built into the walls. On the outside of the building it looked new but the inside was anything but. The group split up as they searched the building.

"Shit," Roy swore as he reentered the front room. "She's not here."

"Boss!" Jean called out from the back room of the building. "I think you need to see this."

Roy moved to the back room and stopped in the doorway. "Hot?" Stepping forward he placed his hand on the wall where the word HOT had been painted. Leaning forward he put his ear to the wall and knocked, earning a smirk to form on his face. "Major!" He called out. "We need to get this wall down."

"Sir? Do you think…?"

"There's a room behind that wall," Roy said as he stood back from the wall while a few of the other men that had come along moved forward. "It's the old game of hot and cold that kids play. Illun's playing a game and it seems like he's being childish right now. Be careful when we go in. He told me I'd only be save one of you. I don't know what he's planning but so far you are here and Eden's safe."

"I'll do everything I can to make sure that we all get back alive, boss."

Another few moments and there was a whole large enough for the men to fit through. Roy moved through the whole and motioned for them to follow. On the floor of the room were small droplets of blood leaving toward another room. They followed the droplets until they came to a locked door that Roy busted open. When he pushed the door open and stepped inside, Roy stopped.

Blood.

Eden

Eden stood at the sink, washing a few dishes while Daphne sat in the living room and read her book. She couldn't help but think of Roy. It had been a week since she last rec'd a phone call from him and despite Daphne reassuring her that everything was alright she was worried. She stopped her hands in the water and sighed. Reaching down she pulled the plug and let the water drain before wiping her hands off with a towel and moving to the living room.

"If you don't stop worrying, Eden," Daphne said without looking up from her book. "You will go insane. Roy will be fine and I'm sure he will call soon."

"I think I will take a nap for now," she said, heading toward the staircase. "Maybe that'll help get my mind off of Roy for a while."

Slowly, she climbed the staircase and moved toward her room. Pushing her door open, she slipped her shoes off and slid them toward the wall to the right. She closed the door behind her and untied the apron from around her waist, letting it fall to the floor. Taking a deep breath, she lay down on her bed and pulled the blankets up over her. She allowed herself to fall into a calm sleep.

About two hours later, Daphne was jolted from her book by a loud scream. Dropping the book to the floor, she raced up the stairs and threw the door to Eden's room open. She raced to Eden's side and saw a look of horror covering the young girls face. Eden's hand was shaking and when Daphne pulled the blanket from her lap, she gasped in horror.

Blood.
