A Healing Nerve

Since Ruby had been released from the hospital, Yang has been by her sister's side at nearly all hours. It was nothing anybody who knew the pair were surprised about really, what did surprise them was the fact that even though Yang's test came back and she had passed it, she told Weiss she wanted more time off to better care for her sister.

Weiss agreed, of course, but the mere act of Yang asking for time off still made her pinch her arm to make sure she wasn't dreaming. It made things a bit harder at the warehouse since they were still a model down but it was nothing she could really whine about now. She could hold the show off for a week or two at most so there wasn't the biggest of time crunches, so no worries there. What she was worried about were the times she went to see Ruby, the younger sister was angry and depressed but furthermore, she was refusing to take her pain medication.

Yang tried repeatedly, but Ruby would hold fast- even slapped her hand away one time- and just cross her arms and glare. Yang seemed to know why Ruby refused to take the medication, and Weiss herself had an idea why, but it still hurt to see Ruby wince in pain from time to time.

The sigh that escaped Weiss's lips was deep and long, making her close her eyes as she took a small break from reading the legal documents that concerned Ruby's case. The man had been caught and charged with assault and reckless endangerment. The talk of attempted manslaughter was once on the table but a plea deal was reached and the charged was reduced.

She was pleased to see the scum get jail time, but the damage that was done to Ruby was going to linger for some time. It killed her to see this all happen to those she knew and loved, it wasn't fair in the least bit; but she knew wishing it upon someone else would be a horrible thought. No one deserved to see their loved ones hurt, to watch them wallow in their own misery and see them even slip into the bouts of depression.

The phone rang, jerking Weiss upright and forced her eyes to snap open. The light of her office blinding her as if she had just woken up from a bad dream, but as nice as the hopeful thought was she knew it to be false.

"Hello?" Weiss answered, shocked to hear from her father. It seemed he had heard what was happening and concerned for her. She even smiled softly when she heard her mother's soft voice in the background. "I'm fine, Father. It's just...it's been a long process." She wasn't shocked when he sniffled and cleared his throat, a sign for her to tell him everything and to get it off her chest.

(Line Break)

Ruby sat on the couch, her ass thanking Yang for the soft seat as well as the many pillows that surrounded her and propped her up. She hated that wheelchair, it bit into her arms, it's seat was hard, and furthermore... it was dirty and sticky with something. Even when Yang tried to wipe it down with cleaners it was still sticky.

The runner closed her eyes, taking in the warmth while trying to mentally force the pain to disappear. It was a trick she learned when she was little- mind over matter really. If she could focus on the area of hurt, and imagine her hands spreading that pain thinner and thinner and thinner, then it would soon vanish. It seemed silly, but it worked for her. She tried that several times already and though it dulled the pain, it never took it away. Ruby knew that the medicines would help, but she knew that they were high grade and she could easily become addicted to them- though her rational thinking told her that it would only happen if she went out of control with them over used them, she also didn't know how her body would react to them.

"Hey there," A soft voice cooed above her. "you aren't sleeping, are you?"

Ruby opened her eyes to see the soft face of her sister, those lilac eyes shining as they always have. "No, just relaxing."

Yang's smile grew wider even though it kept its soft edge. "Okay, Ru." She said as she sat down next to her. "Are you hungry?"

"You asked me that twenty minutes ago, you know." Ruby sighed, turning her head to see the shrug the older gave. "You can relax, Yang. This isn't even that bad... I'm just... I'm bored. And mad. And sad- I'm a lot of things."

"I know." Yang whispered, reaching over to place a hand on Ruby's shoulder. "A lot has happened over a short time and you got really badly hurt. You're in pain, you're mad over it, but you're stuck inside while everyone babies over you. I get it. You were like this when you were younger too."

Ruby was still and quiet for a moment before a heavy sigh left her. "You're the best big sister ever."

Yang barked out a laugh at that, the blonde's heart lifted for a time. She grinned, giving her a thumbs up before she threw Ruby a playful wink and kissed her cheek. "You know it! Now, since I'm the best big sister ever, how about I treat you to some games?"

"Like monster hunter?" Ruby asked, her eyes wide.

"No~" Yang teased before she grinned and drew closer to Ruby, her grin wide before she kissed her cheek before she showed her sister a small, old cartridge. "I was thinking more to the tune of Secret of Mana."

Ruby was gasping, her eyes wide as she let loose an excited squeal as she held her cheeks. Secret of Mana was one of those really old games that Yang and Ruby used to play when they were still trapped under their father's rule and when they had no food in their bellies when they left. It kept their minds off the pain in their tummies, and had them dreaming in colors and of magical adventures.

"But," Yang said with a heavy tone. "You have to not only let me rub the pain ointment on your back, you have to not fight me while I do it."

"What?" Ruby whined. "That's not fair-!"

"No, what isn't fair is that I'm taking time off to take care of you and you won't let me! Ruby, you're hurt and in pain and I couldn't be there for you when it happened, do you know how badly that hurts me? If all I can do is rub this stinky ointment on your back, then please... give me that. Please?"

Ruby fell silent before looking into Yang's large eyes. She knew she was telling the truth; Yang could, and would, never lie to her. Sighing, Ruby lifted her arms, removing her baggy shirt while she did so, and snorted when she saw Yang smile widely.

"I wanna be the sprite."

"As if I'd deny you that." Yang said softly, getting up to fetch the metal tube of ointment and settled behind her sister. "This is gonna be cold, okay?"

"I trust you."

The room was silent, save for soft humming that Yang was doing as she gently trailed her coated fingers over the marred back. It was a long process, the older sister letting the chilled gel heat up on her fingers before it even touched the sensitive skin of the younger. Once fingers touched, they would ghost and travel the paths and scars before they branched out to rub the straining muscles. She was careful not to overwork an area either, keeping her hands moving and working out knots that seemed a bit too tough to just melt away.

During the session, Yang could tell Ruby was nervous, but as the minutes ticked by the tension in her shoulders relaxed until her head was drooping down and she was sure those silver eyes were closed in contentment.

"All done." Yang hummed as she helped Ruby, who was now lazy and dazed, slip her shirt back on. "Ready to play?"

"Hm." Ruby mumbled as she nodded, cuddling close to Yang before her big sister moved to start the game. "Yang? Do you want something to drink?"

"Oh! Drinks and snacks! that's a great idea!" Yang grinned as she gently placed a hand on Ruby's shoulder. "Don't bother trying to get in that chair I can get there and back by the time you do."

"Yeah but-"

"No buts... unless it's Blake's because she has one hella-donna booty!" Yang smirked as her sister eww'd and stuck out her tongue in distaste. "Oh, what? Like you haven't stared at Weiss's behind?"

"Yeah but... that's different." Ruby pointed out as she watched Yang make her way to the kitchen to gather their needed snacks. "I mean, Blake is your girlfriend, so I don't want to think of her when I have my own girlfriend who has a wonderfully shaped butt."

"True, that all makes sense. Speaking of that though, have you and Weiss ever…?" Yang paused, her cheeks a bit red with the idea of her sister being so intimate with anyone- let alone their boss.

Ruby blinked for a time before her eyes widened and she gasped, her cheeks burning with a wildfire of color. "Of course not! I mean, we've like, cuddled kinda heavy, and sometimes we get a little touchy but we've never... you know, gone all the way."

This made Yang breath out a sigh of relief before she scrunched her eyebrows. "She hasn't tried to force you into anything, right?"

"Oh for- no!" Ruby groaned. "Look, I know Weiss wants to, and I'm fine with that but...I just..."

"Just…?"

"I just don't think she'll find me... you know... good looking without my clothes on." Ruby admitted, her eyes sad and her shoulders sagging. She was so lost in thought that she didn't hear Yang walk into the living room with a bowl of snack mix and two cans of their favorite sodas.

"That's nonsense. You're a beautiful and sexy woman who could capture the heart of anyone you wanted to. Now, since you captured Weiss's and you know she's wanting to... play, doesn't that tell you see likes what she's seen and felt up?"

"W-well... I mean.." Ruby paused, her eyebrows scrunched in thought. "What if she-"

"Nope. We're done talking about it." Yang cut her off, starting their game up and watching the title appear in the low graphics that for them, still held so much color. "You and I are going to play this game, eat this bowl of mix, and drink soda while it's still chilled and have a good time. Stuff like that does best when simmered in thought."

Ruby gave a quick blink before she chuckled and leaned against Yang's arm. "Yeah, okay, Sis. I'll trust you on this one."

"Damn straight you will." Yang teased back, her fingers already moving the control pad this way and that to spell the main characters name. "If I have a son, he's name is so going to be Yin."

"You're such a loser." Ruby laughed out. "But I love you anyway."

"Damn straight."

A/N: Sorry this took so long! I've been a bit busy plus taking a bit of downtime for myself. My sister got me playing League of Legends so I try to play at least once a day for the bonus points. Fun game, but you can run across some nasty people, huh? Anyway, if you haven't guessed one of my childhood games was Secret of Mana, and boy I love that game! XD Any of you guys played it? If not, it's a great pick-up for a fun, colorful game! Hope everyone has a wonderful day! And thank you, Minesniper for all the beta reading you do!

E/N: Help, this isn't voluntary! She's kidnapped me and is forcing me to edit at gunpoint! Someone call the police! If I don't make it out of here, let my family know I can't believe it took them several days to realize I was missing and they're terrible parents!
