Little author notes about so much.
Ownership Disclaimer: Glee? No, not mine, but what's mine is mine. I do own a copy of the seasons one to four, and a bucket of their legit music on cd. A true Gleek will see what words are mine, what aren't and how I've manipulated the song and scene with an AU of Klaine and SamCedes.
Song/music choice: Smile, Glee version, Season One, episode 12 named Mattress. If you don't know the tune, I hope you can follow its tempo and the story anyway.
I'd be interested if you like these words. Please review? It's really important for personal growth and blah di blah. Corny rhyming was not intended.
Rated: 16 M, most of these collections are that, and if you venture forward, it's your responsibility how you accept what is to come. MxM moosh.
Trigger Warning: Mature content, but then again maturity comes when it does, and many a grown up are immature – many a youngin' are mature.

~ S5 ep 16, Sweet Sixteen and Never Been … ~

~ protection at what cost ~

He stands under a street light, leaning back against it with one leg up to brace himself. Checking the cars as they drive by, being protective of who he's looking out for. He's grateful that she doesn't know about him, if she did, she'd think he was a crazed fan.

Looking to where she sits, with her friends, enjoying her freedom without too much concern of being pestered by fans. As she raises her drink to her mouth, he raises his bottle to his lips. In sync, they drink.

Her girlfriend laughs at something, she laughs too and glances around, he quickly turns his head, he'll look back after counting to ten.

Kurt looks at Blaine as he finishes a phone conversation. "Okay, well, I'll tell him. Yes, thank you, thank you so very much."

Sitting on the opposite chair, Blaine's looking down at his knees that are between Kurt's. Holding Blaine's hands tightly, Kurt sniffles and then kisses them with urgency.

Blaine raises Kurt's head and they look to one another with worry and desperation. "Kurt, you are the love of my life. I can feel you slipping away from me." Blaine swaps their positioning, putting Kurt's legs together and holding them still with his own knees. The drive in his heart to get him to understand his insecurities, wants and needs are urgent. He feels that his heart is about to explode from holding an avalanche of panic attack and the sobs come, "You're a lot to lose, Kurt."

Blaine shakes his head free of the overflow of emotions, he's had enough humiliation for this week. "No, no Kurt. Either …." Not intending an ultimatum, but if that's how it sounds, then so be it. "Either, I'm enough for you, and you accept my explanation or …." He sighs heavily, the imminent decision not being his, but reality sucks and Kurt can't have it both ways. "Or I'm moving back home." There, it's out and he watches as Kurt processes what they're about to do, the weight of responsibility now resting with him.

Kurt has stopped breathing, he's biting his bottom lip, which Blaine reaches up and undoes, or he'll cut through and bleed. The touch of Blaine's fingers brings him back to now. Knowing the correct decision will be more difficult, but it will be the mature and longer lasting enrichment of their love for each other. He shivers, the black tank top allowing his physique to warm Blaine's heart, and other parts too.

"I was the one who cheated, I see that now. I accept how hurt I've made you and how I so desperately want to undo this. But Blaine …" Uncertain if convincing is possible, convincing himself and convincing Blaine, but he tries. "I don't want to lose you. I can't lose you. We've worked so hard and for so long, I can't do this without you, Blaine."

Grabbing Blaine in desperation, their foreheads thumping painfully and kissing feverishly. "I am really, really sorry Blaine."

"I know you are Kurt, I know." Breaths mixing together, emotional tears mixing too. "I want you so much too. Now, now…" trying to calm him, "I want you to get ready and perform your absolute best, for me, Kurt!" He hugs Kurt until he settles and his breathing relaxes. "You need to calm down Kurt, it's time to focus."

Final words before Kurt has to change, "I am so proud of you, when I see you up there and when I hear you."

His arms around Blaine's neck, he whispers, "I hope so, I want you to be."

~ Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome Kurt Hummel ~

He steps on stage, an Easter charity performance singing loud and proud. The band starts up the slow melodic beat.

"Smile, though your heart is aching,…" the audience clap in true appreciation. "Smile even though it's breaking…" thoughts of hurting Blaine, needing the hurt to stop. "When there are clouds, in the sky you'll get by." He misses Finn and dedicates this performance to him.

Deep breath in and singing to the children in the balconies, "If you smile through your pain and sorrow…." He knows they're bandages will come off eventually. "Smile and maybe tomorrow…." Singing now to Mr Schue and his bride Emma. "You'll see the sun come shining through, for you…"

Sitting next are Rachel and Jeff holding one another's hands, enjoying Kurt's performance. "Light up your face with gladness, hide every trace of sadness…" Puck and Quinn, she rubs her seven month baby bump, an engagement diamond twinkling on her hand. "Although a tear, may be ever so near…." Beth and Shelby are next along from them.

"That's the time, you must keep on trying. Smile, what's the use of crying…." His dad and Carole, allowed to cuddle in public once more. "You'll find that life is still worthwhile, if you just smile."

The rest is sung directly to Blaine, "Smile though your heart is aching,…" Kurt kneels down on the stage, "Smile even though it's breaking…." They softly shake their heads, they won't break up, be damned to everyone else. "When there are clouds in the sky, you'll get by, …. that's the time you must keep on trying….." Blaine joins singing, "On trying...," without a microphone, not for anyone else, just them two.

Together now, "Smile what's the use of crying, you'll find that life is still worthwhile, if you just smile." Kurt stops but Blaine repeats, "You'll find that life is still worthwhile…." His deeper soulful voice heard by all and he raises to lean against the stage, holding Kurt's free hand. "If you just….." together "Smi . i . i . i . l.e."

The auditorium erupt with standing, whistling, clapping and some have single flowers to throw toward the stage. Kurt blushes dark pink, Blaine grabs him and gives a passionate kiss then releases him and sits back down.

Kurt walks back to centre stage, bows accordingly, turns to the band and claps appreciation to them. They all stand and bow their thank yous, too.

~ together, they win ~

The curtain comes down and the next performance gets into place. He hasn't even stepped off to the side when his phone receives another message, from him!

Kurt reads it, replies and deletes it.

Sitting in his change room, wondering what to do, he taps his phone. "I have a boyfriend. Stop texting me."

Incoming message: Meet me at the music store, tomorrow. We need to talk.

"No!" He turns his phone off, not just on silent, he turns it off.

~ congratulations ~

At the after party many couples are dancing cheek to cheek, the singles are swaying in groups.

Blaine and Kurt are at the bar, ordering drinks. Blaine talks softly into Kurt's ear, "I'll just be over there with Rachel, she's calling to me."

"Sure, I'll bring the drinks over." Blaine leaves and Kurt returns his direction to the bartender.

A few moments pass and he's aware of someone on his left, he doesn't pay attention until that someone puts their hand to the small of his back. Puts a hand there quite firmly, as if possessive and belonging.

Kurt doesn't move at first, he feels the heat through his shirt and for a moment too long, enjoys the physical conversation of one or two finger presses. He coughs and moves away, pushing the hand as he does and turning to the owner. "You have to leave me alone."

A little drunk, Chandler delicately plays with the print of Kurt's sleeve. "Why?"

"You're drunk!"

"What about it?"

"This isn't happening." Picking up their drinks Kurt walks to Blaine and leaves Chandler behind.

Blaine had seen and watched. Handing him his drink, they share a knowing look. "I'm sorry, it won't happen again." Kurt manages to say and swallows quite an amount of his own drink.

While they stand talking and nodding with others invited to the charity event, Kurt holds tight to Blaine's waist band, looping his fingers in his belt and pulling him closer.

They comfort one another with soothing rubs of their arms, Kurt's upper back, Blaine's lower small of his back. This last one has Blaine reach around, wrapping an arm around Kurt and announcing they have to leave, "Thank you for inviting us."

Out at the car, Blaine holds Kurt against it and kisses him passionately. Breaking for a moment, "Who was that guy you were with, when you were getting drinks?"

Looking into Kurt's face, searching for a trace of betrayal, finding none. "I don't want to say his name, ever. He's a no-one, a no-body."

"I don't like others being attracted to you."

~ sigh! ~

At home, keys put away, shoes removed, bathroom door slid open, a double bath is run.

Enjoying hot water together, Blaine tries again. Kurt is leaning back on to his chest, Blaine nips at his neck, "Who was that guy tonight?"

"No-body. And, ummmm…."

Blaine holds him with his legs wrapped around getting tighter. "And,… you were saying?"

"Ummm, and I have to….." nibbles to his ear and the heat of the bath suffocating his mind. "I have to get a new phone…."
