Anorexia Nervosa comes from the Latin words "Nervous Inability to eat"
When the doctors first told me my little darling my sweet baby granddaughter had Anorexia my whole world shattered my body stopped responding my brain went numb my heart stopped pumping blood.
How could this happen?
Cat was always such a fun happy positive little girl with big dreams.
Growing up Cat would always go above and beyond to make everyone else happy giving me a sunflower everyday telling me she loved and treasured me.
She would dance across the beach arms spread wide smiling her hair glowing.
Every night she would take her guitar and sing on the boardwalk with Jade they smiled so bright.
Cat was perfect to me the granddaughter I dreamed of having for so long. I never got to have after four boys I accepted it would never happen.
Jack moved to Germany he never got married or had kids he travels for his job going all over the world. I never even get to see him. Aaron has three boys Charles, Ryan and Fred. Bob has twin boys Jared and Gerald but he lives in Australia with his wife Nina who is a Traveling Rn. Nick my middle child died in a skiing accident two months after he got married. I was devastated I never thought I would survive losing a child is the worst moment in any parents life.
Than my youngest Brasion had Jacob he was a bright child with blond hair and green eyes a bundle of fun and cute. Jacob was the first grandchild I got to spend time with and while I loved it there was just something missing to me.
I suppose it's the complete devastation of burying your own child no parent ever expects to outlive their child it's not how the laws of parenting are suppose to go. You grow up fall in love get married raise your kids to be good law abiding people they grow up and start their own life you get older retire and prepare for the days when you will eventually get old and sick. You take pleasure in watching your kids go through the parenting balance act you yourself went through.
Than you die and your children carry on your legacy.
Your children are suppose to outlive you not you outliving them.
Nick was a bright fun out going kid he lived to please others he was blessed with the comedy gene. He was always making people laugh. He was pure sunshine even as a kid he was winning awards for his athletic abilities he was the kid who would give you the shirt off his back.
He loved church he was an alter boy who lived to serve the lord and his community every Sunday he was on the alter helping the priest he helped teaching Sunday school.
He had so many friends he was never without a date on weekends popular yet friendly never stuck up he was an amazing football, basketball and baseball player he loved Rugby and Lacrosse.
He lived for winter so he could travel to Vermont to ski he first started when he was 13 when he volunteered to help with the winter special Olympics.
He was a natural and loved it that's where he met his first true love Catrina she was a volunteer as well a year older than him.
Over the years they stayed friends and dated on and off. Nick graduated high school with honors went to a top college in Vermont shortly after graduating he married Catrina they were opening up their own business a special needs clinic to help kids who needed extra learning advancements.
They went on a honeymoon two months after their wedding cause they were waiting for construction to be completed on their business.
Nick and Catrina chose the ski resort where they first met as their honey moon spot.
Nick never came back expert skiers they tried a black diamond trail but the weather was dark and stormy Nick didn't see the tree ahead of him and crashed into it killing him instantly.
Catrina was devastated but no one more than me.
I never thought I would recover but god didn't fail me he gave me Catrina three years after Jacob was born her little face just reminded me so much of Nick as a baby, so full of life and love so looked up at me with love and pride.
She was my little buddy we did so much together everyday went to county fairs rode horses went on picnics. Even with all the drama in Cat's life her parents fighting she was always so happy so loving.
Than when she was 13 everything changed Jacob had always been the star in the family while I always craved a granddaughter Brasion he wanted a son Jacob fulfilled his wish he was a perfect boy involved in every sport he could be in and he soared at all of them he got straight A's in school everyone fussed over him.
Cat was pushed to the side her dreams deemed as stupid or impossible.
Than Jacob had an accident early one morning while he was practicing surfing Cat was watching on the rocks.
The wind and the waves were really rough that morning but Jacob was a pro so he thought he had won every competition since was three no one ever worried about him going out alone he could fend for himself, Cat looked up to him idolized him as he did to her he loved being an older brother protecting her from bullies watching her shine on stage.
Every-time he was knocked down he got back up but this time that morning the waves were too strong he was pulled under..he didn't come back up Cat dove in after him she found him pulled him up but she wasn't strong enough.
She couldn't swim with him she could barely keep afloat but she found the willpower to float till she found a board using it as a device to keep afloat.
It was over two hours before someone found them Cat had managed to get Jacob on the board saving him from Hypothermia.
He wasn't breathing the lifeguard did CPR both were brought into the local children's hospital.
Cat had Hypothermia and pneumonia she was placed on oxygen and moved to the picu pediatric intensive care unit.
Jacob was in a coma he suffered brain damage to the cerebral cortex which is the area of the brain that controls the highest functions including memory speech voluntary movement.
His parents stopped at nothing to get him the best medical treatments money could buy leaving Cat alone their fighting got worse she threw herself into school music and dance.
She was always so sensitive Jacob's accident only made it worse her dad was devastated and took it out on her, her mom spent everyday at the hospital with Jacob.
Cat's heart was broken and simple comments by her classmates broke her spirits her dance teachers telling her she needed to control puberty didn't help.
Lose the baby fat they said those simple words sent Cat on a war path with her body.
