The Legend of Zelda: Rise of Majora
Chapter Twenty-Five: Home Invasion (Part 2)
[Majora]
He sat with his arms resting on top of his desk with his fingers interlaced as he stared at the black and white video feed of a park at night time. The angle came from high up on a lamp post and a young boy standing across from an older woman appeared in view. There was no sound, but when the boy suddenly tossed what looked like an envelope, Majora's hands tightened into a large fist. He picked up the landline phone on his desk and dialed a number, placing the receiver to his ear. "It's time." Majora said when the call was answered. "Remember, I want the girl alive, she's no use to me dead...kill the others." Before he hung up, he paused and placed the speaker end back towards where his mouth would be if his mask wasn't in the way. "And if you see Sylvia, tell her that I no longer require her service's." He said in a dark tone.
[Link]
He remained frozen in place for several minutes as his mind spiraled out of control: My mom, my real mom, is an assassin for a criminal organization! How much more fucked up could my life get?!
"Link, you must believe me when I say that nothing is as it seems." Sylvia replied desperately in a hushed tone. "I want to tell you everything - and I will! For now just keep a close eye on Zelda." She pulled out a small flip phone and extended her hand out to Link. "Here, it's a secure phone that has only one number programmed in it, mine." She remained with her hand out for a few seconds before Link reluctantly took it. She smiled and replaced her hands in her coat. "Remember, keep your eye on her and anything that might seem suspicious - i'll contact you tomorrow. Goodbye, Link."
His mother's words echoed in his mind as he looked down at his hand, still clutching the very plain looking cell phone. I have to talk to Zelda, if she really is still in danger, then he had to do everything he could to keep her safe. Link pulled out his phone and dialed Zelda's number, placing the phone to his ear.
"Hello?" Zelda replied after a few rings; her voice sounded tired and somewhat rough.
"Zelda?" Link replied immediately as he took off down the dark and empty path back to his car. "Zelda, where are you?" He asked in a frantic voice.
"Link?" Her voice came in mixed with shock and surprise by his tone and questioning. "I'm at home, why what's going on?" She asked, sounding worried.
"We need to talk." Link said. "I'm on my way, don't go anywhere!" He said sternly.
"O-okay, I won't…Link, is...is everything alright?" Zelda asked hesitantly.
Link released a heavy sigh as he opened his car door and entered the vehicle, closing the door. "I hope so...don't worry I'll explain everything. See you soon." He said before hanging up and driving off to Zelda's home.
[Sheik] - [HSA Underground Hideout]
"Agent Saber, I believe it's time for you to debrief me on the Iron Lake Labs incident, don't you?" General Carter spoke through the tv monitor. The video conference window showed only a very small area; General Carter herself, who was sitting in a black leather chair, and a large circular seal of a strange looking bird facing upwards. The letters Hyrule Security Agency were placed along the top and bottom.
Sheik, along with Agent Nayru and Agent Baret, stood in a line before the three large screens in the briefing/debriefing room, all three were silent. Sheik swallowed hard; he'd been spending the past few days trying to protect Link from being investigated by the HSA - he had to find out what happened on his own.
"Mame," Agent Nayru glanced from the screen to Sheik and then back to Gen. Carter. "We were able to find some minor data from the wreckage - a small data tablet." She began.
"We were?!" Sheik thought as he almost threw a questioning look at Navi before realizing his superior was watching.
The general perked up at this. "Oh? And why am I just now hearing about this?" She questioned sternly.
"The tablet was heavily secured - there were several encryption files I wasn't even aware existed!." Agent Nayru explained scoffing lightly.
"And where is this data-pad now, Agent Nayru?" General Carter asked, looking unconvinced.
Agent Nayru placed a thin rectangular black item on the table before the group. General Carter raised an thin eyebrow and looked at the datapad on the table before looking back at Agent Nayru. "What were you able to find?" She asked inquiringly.
"Not much." Agent Nayru replied. "But I was able to recover a file…" She said, biting her bottom lip.
"And…?" Gen Carter asked. "What did you find?"
"It's a kill order...for ex-mayor Harkinian…" Agent Nayru said.
"Does it say who ordered the hit? And who carried it out?" General Carter asked next, seeming more intrigued by the second.
Agent Nayru shook her head. "The order came from some warehouse in Nebraska - some company called Twilight Industries…?"
General Carter's eyes widened momentarily. "Very good." She said, sounding pleased. "Agent Nayru I want you to make this your top priority - finding out what else is on that datapad could help us determine just what exactly is going on."
"General, there's something else. We know who carried out the hit - " Agent Nayru reached for the datapad and turned it on. She turned it around and faced the screen so that General Carter could see. It was a picture of Sylvia.
"Are you telling me Sylvia was behind this?" Gen. Carter asked, looking slightly worried.
"What does it matter who killed him?" Ralph cut it. "She's an assassin, we're the law - the answer seems pretty simple to me." He mused.
"Indeed you are correct, Agent Baret. However Sylvia isn't a contract killer, at least not to any of our knowledge." Gen. Carter explained.
"Majora…" Sheik whispered while glaring at Sylvia's picture on the datapad.
Genera Carter's eyes flicked to Sheik. "Yes, he's up to something and I want to know what it is, because it certainly can't be good if he had the mayor killed." She explained.
"What do you want us to do, sir?" Agent Baret asked as a sneer spread across his face.
"Agent Baret, I want you to return to Hyrule State Penitentiary and see what else you can find out from Onyx - he must be hiding something." General Carter order.
Ralph nodded. "Yes, sir!"
General Carter nodded. "You all have your assignments, get to it. Dismissed!" General Carter commanded. "Agent Saber…" She suddenly addressed Sheik. "Stay a moment, I want to speak with you."
Sheik swallowed hard and watched as Agent Nayru and Agent Baret gave Link a look of support before exiting the room. "Agent Saber?" General Carter said as she cleared her throat.
Sheik turned around to face her. "Yes, sir?"
"I'd like that briefing now, Major…" She said while giving him hard stare.
"I - General, you know what happened. Zelda Harkinian was kidnapped by Dr. Agahnim. Agent Nayru and Baret were able to get Onyx to tell them about Iron Lake Labs, where we found both Agahnim and Zelda...the rest you already know." Sheik finished.
"Really? That's all that happened? There's nothing else you wish to add?" General Carter asked with a raised brow.
"N-no, nothing." Sheik said with a cough.
General Carter frowned mildly and and pressed a few buttons on her keyboard. The screen to the right of the one where General Carter was turned on and a fuzzy black and white image appeared on the screen. "Agent Nayru wasn't the only one who happened to find something new." She pressed another button and the image began moving. Sheik's eyes watched as Dr. Agahnim began performing his experiments on Zelda, when suddenly there was a large explosion. The door to the examination room burst in and Sylvia could be seen firing at Agahnim who managed to duck behind the examination table and pull out his own gun. Sheik's eyes widened, then, when Link suddenly appeared at the doorway. There was no sound, so neither General Carter nor Sheik knew what anyone was saying.
The video played for a few more minutes before General Carter paused it. "Care to explain?" She asked.
"I have no idea how he got there, sir, I swear I never got him involved - "
"Major you got him involved the instant you led him to that house. Your hot head and brash tactics has now gotten a teenage boy on the wanted list of HSA for questioning regarding one of the most dangerous assassins in the world!" She fumed.
"General, if you will please just let me explain - " Sheik tried to defend himself but she cut him off again.
"I don't want to hear it, I told you that house was off limits and then I find one of that one of the silent alarms went off the night you and your team rescued Miss Harkinian!" The general yelled. "I can't have you on this team if you can't even keep civilians out of the matters of our government."
"General you can't expect me to be able to control him one hundred percent!" Sheik scoffed.
The general folded her hands on her desk. "Major, unless you can find your friend and bring him in yourself for questioning I'm going to have to use the full force of this base to do so, that you can be certain of." The general said before disconnecting the call.
Sheik cursed and exited the room only to find that both Agent Nayru and Agent Baret were standing outside, waiting for him.
"So, what's the plan?" Agent Baret asked in his usual rough voice.
Sheik looked from Ralph to Navi with wide eyes. "You guys...I can't ask you to help. I screwed up by thinking I could trust Link to act like a normal human being, and now I need to fix this."
"Not without our help, you're not!" Agent Nayru said defiantly. She glared at Sheik, who looked away from the two agents before him.
"Alright, fine." Sheik finally conceded with a sigh. "But I can't let you guys take any heat from me." He added quickly. "You two should go and see what else you can find out from Onyx. if he is hiding something then we'll need to know."
"And what about you?" Agent Nayru asked, placing her hands on her hips.
"I need to find Link before the General issues a grab command on him or worse, before Sylvia finds him again." Sheik replied with a shudder.
"You think she's after him?" Ralph asked.
"I don't know what her plans are - but they can't be good is she killed Mr. Harkinian…" He paused and looked at the ground in deep thought. Majora, what the hell are you up to?!
"What do you want us to do after we talk to Onyx?" Navi asked.
"It will depend on what he tells you, but we'll need to meet up regardless." Sheik said.
"That's if he tells us anything." Ralph said with a grunt.
"He will." Sheik said. "He has to - we need to know what Majora is planning next."
"And what are you going to do?" Agent Nayru asked.
"I have to go find Link. Call me when you have something." Sheik replied quickly as he ran up the metal staircase and exited the underground base.
[Zelda]
She watched from the window as Link's black Passat pulled into her driveway. Link drove around the circular path and parked his car on the far side. The red lights shut off and the driver side door opened. Zelda sighed and proceeded to head downstairs to meet him. She wondered what Link wanted to speak to her about, and was still somewhat worried by his behavior - because he seemed worried. And that couldn't be good
"Hey, Zel." Link greeted with a small smile as Zelda opened the front door.
"Hey - Link what's wrong?" Zelda asked with a frown.
Link sighed and entered the home. "Let's go upstairs." He said.
The two traveled up the stairs and into Zelda's room, taking a seat on her couch. For a moment neither one said anything. Link had placed his hands face down on his lap, and his eyes continued to stare at them. The silence only served to increase Zelda's anxiety. "Link, say something!" She pleaded. "You're really starting to scare me…"
Link jerked his head up and looked at Zelda, his eyes wide with mild shock. "Oh, sorry...I was just thinking…" He replied, looking back down at his hands. He then slowly pulled out a small envelope and handed it to Zelda. "Here, read it." He instructed.
Zelda frowned and looked from the envelope to Link with a puzzled expression before complying. Zelda noticed out of the corner of her that Link had resumed to look down at his hands while she read. What was going on? She wondered. Zelda quickly opened up the envelope and pulled out a photo of a small house she had never seen before. She frowned, "Link, what is…" She stopped suddenly when she noticed there was a letter stuck to the back. Zelda unfolded the paper and read the thin handwriting to herself. When she finished she replaced the letter in the envelope and slowly looked over at Link, who was now staring at her intently. "Link... " Zelda began hesitantly. "Is this from...from your…" She couldn't finish the sentence. Zelda wasn't sure why, but somehow her throat had suddenly knotted up.
"My mother, yes. My real mother…" Link said, finishing her sentence.
"Oh my god…" Zelda whispered. "A-are you sure?"
Link's face now looked sour. "Yeah, my stepmom gave that letter to me, said she knew the entire time but never told me…" He said, clenching his teeth and tightening his hands into fists.
Zelda's face grew downcast as she took one of his hands and gently opened it up, interlacing her fingers with his. Link didn't even fight it, he let her take his hand and it had loosened quite easily from her warm touch. "Link...talk to me…" She asked him.
Link sighed and looked up at her. "Zelda...my real mom is a world class criminal - an assassin." His face was grim and his eyes were filled with worry.
"Link what are you talking about?" Zelda asked, looking shocked by what he had just said.
"It's true." Link said. "When I first saw her I felt something deep down I couldn't quite understand." He began. "And then, just as you were...kidnapped," He said with a hard swallow. "I couldn't understand why she had left me alive back then, or why she had put a note in my pocket but I had to do something!" He nearly yelled. "It all makes sense now...the flowers, everything." Link whispered.
"Flowers, what flowers?" Zelda asked. The doorbell suddenly rang and the two looked towards the door and then back at each other with a slight frown.
"Were you expecting someone?" Link asked curiously.
"No…?" Zelda replied.
"What about Impa?" Link suggested.
Zelda shook her head. "She's out-of-town on business." She said as she stood up and exited her room as the bell chimed a few more times. "Coming -" Zelda began but Link suddenly grabbed her and pulled her to the side. "Link!" She yelled.
"Hold on, this doesn't feel right." Link said, looking concerned.
"Link, everyone that even enter's this neighborhood needs clearance, let alone the security that's outside and inside my house." Zelda
They were standing at the top of the stairs now, and now the mysterious visitor was knocking and ringing the bell. "Link?! Open up, I know you're in there!" Sheik's voice suddenly rang out.
Zelda gave Link a questioning look as he frowned and walked down the stairs. There was no way an intruder could have gotten past the front gate security, never mind her own exterior security. Despite all of that, the few private security officers appeared on their guard as they waited for Link to open the door. He, of course, peered through the peep hole first before unlocking the door and opening it to see Sheik standing in on the front mat with his arms crossed, a hard and almost dark look covered his face. "Link," He began.
This doesn't look good. What could Sheik be so mad at Link about? Zelda wondered.
"We need to talk." Sheik finished. "Can I come in?" He asked as he peered into the home to see Zelda standing at the top of the stairs. "Hey Zelda." He greeted her with a smile.
"Sheik come inside." Zelda said as she walked down the stairs. Link jerked his head in her direction and threw her a hard look. Whatever Link may be going through right now, he could really use his friend.
"Thanks." Sheik replied, taking a step into the home and sliding past Link.
Link sighed and closed the door, locking it before turning around and looking from Zelda to Sheik. "So, what's this all about?" Link asked nonchalantly.
"You know damn well what this is about!" Sheik said in a low voice.
"Hold on Sheik." Zelda cut in. "Whatever Link has done, I think you need to go a little easy on him - "
"Easy on him!?" Sheik repeated with a laugh. "Zelda, your boyfriend teamed up with a known criminal assassin to rescue you when I told him to stay out of it and let the law enforcement handle it!"
"You guys wouldn't have made it on time anyways!" Link countered. "Sylvia and I got their before you so what does that say about your law enforcement - "
Sheik clapped his hands to his head. "Link, are you listening to yourself? For all you know, Sylvia could have down all of this purely to gain your trust!"
"Hang on." Zelda cut in. "Why would you think this Sylvia character would want to gain Link's trust?" She asked.
"So she could get to you!" Sheik replied with a heavy sigh.
"What?!" Both Link and Zelda yelled.
"We think Majora is after you, Zelda." Sheik continued. "I had two of my agents sent off to question someone that was once a part of Majora's plans."
"That doesn't explain why you think Sylvia is after Zelda." Link pointed out.
"Link...Sylvia was the one who killed Zelda's dad…" Sheik broke the news as gently as he could, but they had to know.
"What?! No, no, no that can't be right…" Link said, his face turning pale from the shock.
"We found a data-pad from the wreckage of Iron Lake Labs." Sheik began. "The kill order, along with information on the killer, was all there. It was Sylvia, she used you!"
"No!" Link shouted. "There's something else going on here - "
"Like WHAT?" Sheik yelled.
"She's my mom, Sheik!" Link suddenly blurted out.
Sheik blinked a few times and looked down for a moment. "What?" He asked after a few seconds.
"It's true!" Zelda said as she handed Sheik the letter Link had given to her. The two explained to Sheik everything that happened to Link in past few hours.
"Link…" Sheik began with a sigh. "Sylvia is a highly trained assassin that works for one of the most dangerous criminals on the face of the earth! She's trained to lie!"
"I don't believe you." Link said adamantly. "How can you explain the photograph I found at home? And everything that my mom told me?" Link countered.
"Even if she is you real mom, there's no way to tell if she really loves you, Link she's committed murder!"
Link shut his eyes and turned around. Zelda, how had been standing on the second to last step, came all the way down and took Link's hand in hers.
"Link...I have to bring you in." Sheik said with look of distaste.
"Hold on, what do you mean you have to take him in? Link hasn't done anything wrong!" Zelda said protectively.
"Not according to the HSA." Sheik replied with a shake of his head. "I have orders to bring you in, and if I don't then they'll just send more men who aren't like me - they won't listen, they won't even let you talk. They'll just come in and bag-and-grab you, and then you'll be questioned about how you know Sylvia - "
"But I don't know Sylvia!" Link yelled.
"They don't know that!" Sheik explained. "Link, they have you on camera with Sylvia breaking into Iron Lake Labs - you're a person of interest, they'll never stop looking for you."
"So what, I'm supposed to just come with you?" Link said with a scoff.
"I'm hoping that if I can bring you in peacefully then you'll have a much better chance of explaining your situation, and I'll back you up one hundred percent." Sheik explained.
"Oh how chivalrous of you." Link mocked. "What about Zelda? Didn't you say she was in danger? So you're just going to leave her here are you - "
"I have backup coming that will take Zelda someplace safe until we can get a hold of the situation." Sheik explained.
"The situation is that you guys have no idea what's going on - at least Sylvia can help!"
"Link, don't make me take you in by force because I will do it if I have to!" Sheik shouted furiously.
"Fine then do it!" Link yelled back, his eyes were now turning red and face was contorted with rage and something else… "It'll just prove how much of worthless friend you are!"
"Link…" Zelda whispered.
Sheik and Link glared at each other for seconds on seconds in silence. Before either of them could say anything, Zelda took a step forward and frowned. "Wait...do you guys hear something?"She asked.
Link and Sheik broke off their intense staring contest and listened closely for anything out of the ordinary. "I don't hear any - " Sheik began, but suddenly stopped when a dull whirring sound come closer and closer to them. "What in the…" Sheik quickly ran to a nearby window and looked outside. It was relatively dark and all appeared as normal, until Sheik looked up and noticed a helicopter closing in on the mansion.
"So, looks like your backup showed up after all." Link said with a sour look on his face.
"They're not backup." Sheik said quickly as he turned around.
"What?" Link asked, confused.
"They're not backup!" He repeated as he grabbed the two. A motorized whirring could be heard as it began slowly then quickly increased in speed and pitch. Suddenly the helicopter turned to its side and a large turret could be seen sticking out. The attached barrels began to spin until hundreds of bullets shot out.
Several dead security officers littered the front grounds. The first spray started a few feet to the right of the doorway and moved leftwards, taking out the many glass windows along the way. "Get down!" Sheik yelled as he ran from the window just as it exploded.
[Link]
The three ducked to the ground while Sheik and Link covered Zelda from the glass shards. "Sheik, what the hell is going on!?" Link shouted as more bullets fired as the house. Many of the officers inside the home had gotten hit due to the unexpected assault. Those that were still alive began to return fire when they could, however visibility was poor and there wasn't much you could do when a mounted turret was firing hundreds of rounds per minute.
"It's Sylvia!" Sheik yelled. "Damn, I knew they'd come for Zelda but not this soon, or like this!"
"What do we do now?" Zelda asked.
"You two need to get to a safe place and stay there while I handle this!" Sheik commanded.
Link obeyed and helped Zelda up to her knees. When they got the chance, they sprang up the stairs, avoiding a spray of bullets that hit the chandelier. It shattered into hundreds of pieces that flew in multiple directions. Zelda screamed again but Link stood between the shards and Zelda. He kept running up the stairs with Zelda a few steps ahead of him. "Your room!" Link suggested. They quickly ducked inside and Link shut the door.
"Link, what's happening?" Zelda asked in a shaky voice.
Link turned around and pulled Zelda in for a tight hug. "I don't know, but I promise I'll get you out of this safe and sound. Link could feel Zelda relax into his arms and chest, and he smiled lightly. "I'm just going to see if Sheik needs any help, then I'll be right back okay?" He said as he quickly pulled away.
"Link - wait!" Zelda yelled.
"I'm coming right back!" He promised as he stepped out of Zelda's room, shutting the door behind him. Link peered around the staircase and noticed that the gunfire had stopped. Bodies of the security team hired to guard Zelda littered the bottom floor, and bullet holes graced the entire front portion of the mansion.
Link's heart pace quickened as he searched frantically for Sheik. His eyes widened when he spotted his friend propped up against a turned over desk he must have pulled from a nearby room. "Sheik!" Link shouted as he ran down the stairs. "You're hurt!" He exclaimed when he noticed blood on Sheik's left shoulder.
"It's nothing." Sheik replied unfazed. His side arm was out and in several pieces. "And didn't I tell you to stay with Zelda?" He said, giving Link a stern look.
"She's in her room, she's fine." Link said. "I had to come back to see if you needed help - what are you doing?" He asked Sheik curiously as he eyes the various pieces of the gun.
"Making sure my gun doesn't catch or a spring nocks lose. And we've been through this already - "
"Look, this isn't the time to argue, you've got nobody else to help you!" Link pointed out. "I can help you, just tell me what to do - at least until your backup gets here." He suggested.
Sheik clenched his teeth. "Dammit Link - fine try and see if you can get close to that window." Sheik said, pointing in its direction. "I need to know what's going on out there - I think that helicopter must have left because I can't hear it anymore."
Link nodded and peered once around the desk before rolling across the floor and crawling towards the window. Leaning up against the wall beside the window, Link peered out while trying to remain hidden as best he could.
The helicopter had not left. In fact it was parked right in the driveway. Four men were standing just outside of its doors all carrying large guns. Link ducked back down and stealthily made his way back to Sheik. "There are four men outside all with big guns." Link reported.
Sheik didn't seem pleased by this. "What are they doing?" He asked.
"They're just standing outside talking. I think they think we're all dead…" Link guessed.
Sheik loaded his gun and cocked it. "Let's hope it stays that way. Maybe we can all get out of here alive and in one piece… well, relatively one piece." He joked, looking at the bullet wound in his left shoulder.
Link chuckled lightly. "You sure picked one hell of time to be a jokester, let's get ou - "
"We know you're in there! Bring the girl outside nice and quietly, and you can all live!" A deep voice boomed from outside the front door. "You have ten seconds, starting now!"
"What now?" Link asked.
"Now it's time to go." Sheik said as he stood up, followed closely by Link. The two ran up the stairs and ducked into the hallway just as the front door broke in. Link and Sheik moved as quietly as they could across the floor and made their way into Zelda's room, shutting the door.
The four men entered the destroyed home. Of the four, there was a taller, broader man with a brutish face and a scar that ran from the top of his left eye down to the right side of his chin. "Search the place!" He ordered. "We're not leaving until we find the girl!" The three other men instantly broke off around the large house, their weapons up and ready to fire.
The leader walked around the main foyer and eyed everything meticulously until he noticed a trail of blood that started from a pushed over desk and led towards the stairs. The man grinned roguishly and silently crept up the stairs.
[Sheik]
He locked the door to Zelda's room and turned around to see Link and Zelda staring intently at a shadowy figure that was standing on the balcony outside Zelda's room.
Sheik immediately drew his sidearm and aimed it at the stranger. "Who is that?" He asked.
"I don't know." Zelda replied. "They just appeared there all of a sudden." She said with a shaky voice.
The figure suddenly moved forward and Sheik pulled the hammer of his gun. The figure took a few more steps forward, and it was soon easy to tell that the stranger was a woman.
"Wait!" Link yelled, pushing down on Sheik's gun. He walked forward just as the woman placed her fingers on the door handle. Link froze as the handle slowly turned, and the door opened. The woman stepped into the room and light, making herself completely visible.
"Mom!?"
"Sylvia!"
Link and Sheik reacted at the same time; Sheik aimed his gun at her and Link walked up to her. "Mom, what are you doing here?" Link asked.
"Link, get out of the way." Sheik commanded.
"No!" Link said.
"She killed Zelda's dad!" Sheik almost yelled.
"I don't know if you have noticed, but four very dangerous men are closing in on us right now, we need to get out of here." Sylvia spoke.
"Like hell we're listening to you!" Sheik said, not moving his gun away.
"I didn't kill the mayor, you've been given false information - I can explain everything but not here, we need to move now!" Sylvia said urgently.
"And how do we know you aren't just trying to trick us into leaving the house so those guys can get us?" Sheik asked.
"You don't." Sylvia replied without hesitation. "You can either stay here and get yourselves killed and the girl kidnapped again, or you can come with me!"
A loud bang erupted from outside the door and Sylvia pulled out her sidearm. "Too late, run!" Sylvia yelled as the door suddenly burst open.
Sheik and Sylvia rolled to opposite sides as gunfire rang out in the room. Sheik fired several rounds at the door, causing two of the men to duck behind the exterior wall. The two other men rolled to opposite side to avoid being hit. "Grab the girl!" The leader yelled.
Sylvia fired three shots and moved into a better position as one of the bullets struck on of the two men. She flipped over Zelda's desk and blind fired until her clip was empty.
Sheik looked from behind the bed to Zelda and Link to Sylvia and glared at her. When she caught his eyes she waved for him to leave. "Go, run! I'll be right behind you!"
"You're not going anywhere!" The leader yelled as he fired several rounds into the wooden desk. Eventually Sylvia had to move from the desk and into the closet.
"Mom!?" Link yelled.
"Just GO!" She yelled.
"Come on!" Sheik yelled as he grabbed Link and Zelda and bolted out of the room. The three made it to the edge of the balcony and looked down.
"Can we jump?" Link asked.
"It looks far…" Zelda commented warily.
A bullet suddenly zoomed passed them and Sheik looked behind him to see that Sylvia had now moved towards the back of the room and closer to the balcony.
"We don't have a choice, try and land in the bushes!" Sheik suggested as he climbed the ledge and jumped.
"Come on, we do it together." Link said to Zelda as he offered her his hand.
Zelda swallowed hard and took his hand, gripping it tightly. "One, two, three, jump!" Link yelled. They both jumped off the balcony and let go of each others hand so they could fall in the spaced out bushes.
"Everyone alright?" Sheik asked as the three emerged from the bushes. They were covered in dirt and twigs in their hair, but otherwise they seemed fine. "Good, let's get the hell out of here."
"And go where?!" Link asked. "Is anywhere safe?"
Sheik sighed and looked at the two with a hard expression. "There's one place I know where we can go, but I don't know what's going to happen once we get there."
"Well, it's a start." Zelda pointed out. "And at least we'll be safe, right?" She asked warily.
Sheik nodded. "Yeah, we should be."
The three had made it several yards from the mansion when several more gunshots rang out. Link stopped and looked back.
"What is it?" Zelda asked him.
"It's my mom, I can't just leave her there. What if she needs our help?" Link feared.
"Link, she's a high level assassin who can take care of herself. Besides, she's the enemy! We need to figure this out on our own - "
"No! I don't believe you!" Link shouted, looking at Sheik. "She's my mom, and I believe her." He said before running back to the house.
"Link!" Zelda yelled.
"I'll catch up!" He yelled back.
"Link - "
"We have to go!" Sheik yelled.
"But we can't leave Link!" Zelda yelled.
"I have to get you out of here, Zelda, because those maniacs are coming after for some reason - "
A gunshot rang out and Sheik grunted as a bullet struck him in the chest. He fell to the ground, groaning and clutching his wound. "Sheik!" Zelda cried, falling to his side.
"Just get out of here!" He croaked. "Don't worry about me, you need to get out of here, if they get you - "
"I'm not leaving you!" Zelda yelled as her eyes turned wet. Blood now covered Sheik's chest, and the wound looked pretty bad.
"There's no time to argue, you need to get somewhere safe, but don't go to any friends or neighbors homes." Sheik advised. "You need to get far away, here…" He pulled off his watch and handed it to her. "It's got a tracking device in it, we'll know where to find you." He said with a hard swallow.
Zelda took the watch and stood up. "Sheik…" Another gunshot rang out and struck the ground inches from Zelda's feet.
"Get the hell out of here!" Sheik coughed.
Zelda clutched his watch and looked into his eyes one last time before darting off through the wooded section of her neighborhood.
[Zelda]
She ran as hard and fast as she could. Her legs hurt, but she pushed them on. Tears ran down her cheek as images of Sheik covered in blood flooded her mind. She couldn't even go back to see if Link was alright. Zelda looked behind her to make sure no one was following when she suddenly tripped on a fallen branch, tumbling down a hill. Landing at the bottom with a heavy grunt, Zelda sat up and brushed herself off. Looking around, Zelda realized that she was near a road.
She stood up and looked around frantically. What should she do? Where should she go. Her first thought was Midna or to call Impa, but Sheik's words rang clear through her head, "Don't go to any friends or neighbors homes."
Were these people watching Zelda's loved one's? Just what in the world was going on! Suddenly, a car light appeared around one of the corners of the road. Zelda quickly hid herself and watched as the car slowly drove towards her.
Zelda's heart beat quickened as she held her breath. The car approached her and stopped a few feet away. And then suddenly someone got out of the driver seat. "Miss Zelda?" A man yelled.
Zelda peered out from around a bush and looked at the man. From what she could tell, the man was middle aged, was well dressed and was about five five. The man got closer and continued to yell Zelda's name frantically. The voice was now becoming more and more familiar to her, but she dared not show herself out of fear. As the man passed her, Zelda soon recognized him to be Walter - her father's pilot and driver. "Miss Harkinian? It's me, Walter!"
"Walter!" Zelda said as she slowly stood up.
Walter spun around and his eyes widened when he saw her. "Thank the Goddesses!" He said running up to her. "Are you alright? Are you hurt?" He asked frantically.
"I-I fine." Zelda replied with a shaky voice. "The house - "
"I know, I know." Walter said, his eyes looking downcast. "I was able to escape through the back from your fathers underground garage. I've been trying to get back to the house, but those goons have most of the streets blocked off. My only hope was that you had somehow escaped too, and that I would find you."
"We have to get out of here." Zelda said quickly.
"Indeed." Walter agreed. "Get in, I've already informed Impa - "
"No, we can't go to Impa." Zelda cut in.
"But, m-miss Harkinain, surely you will be much safer with her? In Labrynna?" Walter said, trying to convince her.
Zelda shook her head. "No, they'll be expecting that. I need to go somewhere I've never been to. Somewhere no one would expect me to be." Just as she said this the perfect place entered her mind. "1732 Great Sea Road." She said quickly.
Walter's eyes widened. "How do you know that address?" He whispered.
"You know where that is?" Zelda asked in disbelief.
Walter nodded as he walked towards the car. "I'll explain on the way." He said as Zelda entered the car. Walter shut his door and drove off, leaving Royal Gardens Neighborhood.
[Sylvia]
She hid behind a stone pillar in the exterior of the balcony outside Zelda's room. "Give it up, Sylvia!" The leader yelled. "You're outnumbered, just give yourself up. Majora is already aware of your betrayal, and quite frankly I can't say I'm surprised." The man chuckled.
"I don't give a crap what Majora claims to know, Gal. You've already lost, the girl's gone! You've failed, how do you think Majora will react when he finds out?" Sylvia shouted. She jerked her head to the right as a chunk of stone exploded by her head as gunshots continued in her direction.
"Well, it's not an entire failure." Gal said with a grin. "Majora did say to kill you, so I guess bringing your head to him will make up for the lose." He said evilly.
Sylvia reached into her pocket and pulled out a small ball. "Well I guess you'll be failing twice. Consider this my resignation!" Sylvia yelled as she tossed the ball in Zelda's room and ran towards the balcony ledge.
Gal grinned and pointed his gun at Sylvia and fired. Just as he did, the tiny ball exploded, sending all four men flying in different directions. The force of the blast knocked Sylvia of the balcony but she recovered with a roll as she hit the ground, covering her body as debris fell down towards her. Sylvia grunted and stood up just in time to see Link running towards her. "I thought I told you to run!" She said.
"I couldn't just leave you, I told them we'd catch up." Link explained.
Sylvia stood up and brushed herself off. "Let's go." She followed Link down the unmade path that the three had previously traveled, when he suddenly stopped. "They're not here..." He said, looking around suddenly appearing fearful. "They're not here!" He yelled.
Sylvia looked around the area until she noticed a pair of books sticking out from the bushes leading into a heavily wooded area. "Help me out." She said as she quickly moved a few branches aside. Sheik's body was soon visible, and Sylvia could hear Link gasp.
"Sheik!" He yelled, falling to his friends side.
"He's been shot twice." Sylvia noted. "He's lost a lot of blood." She knelt down and placed her ear against his nose. "He's still breathing, but it's faint. We need to get him out of here."
"Wait, where's Zelda?" Link asked, looking around.
"My guess would be that Sheik told her run once he was shot. He knows their after her." Sylvia replied.
"Who are these people!?" Link asked. "Why do want Zelda?"
Sylvia stood up and grabbed Link by the shoulders firmly. "Listen to me, I know this is all frightening and happening very quickly, but we need to get Sheik to safety or he's going to die, and then we'll never know where Zelda went." She said sternly.
Link swallowed and nodded but said nothing.
"Help me get him up, I've got a car parked not far from here that I've hidden. Let's hope Gal and his men haven't found it yet." Sylvia said as she moved towards Shiek's body.
"Where do we go?" Link asked in a shaky voice.
"Off the grid." Sylvia replied simply as Link helped her to carry Sheik. "We need to get out of here, Hyrule won't be safe for much longer."
