Chapter Twenty-Five: Shake and Bake

"… and that is the plan, Blue Thing," Klaltiel said, moving Clover's lips again.

"The Jack and the Ianto- what do you know, Eight Legs?"

"Not sure. They must have found the offworld transport portal we used to move our operations here- I heard a blast earlier. There may be bits of them covering the pavement outside our hideaway by now- we'll have to try there first."

"Not. Acceptable."

The Doctor stretched out in a yawn and popped out one telling claw, scraping it on the floor in Clover's direction.

"We have to try there first, Blue Thing. Else why bother looking at all? Why bother trying to save the Sarah Jane?"

"Pieces of you will be all over this planet if you fail them."

The Doctor's long tongue rolled out and back in again. She got up, took a few steps toward Clover, and stopped.

"And… hurt the Clover, and you will never be born."

Klaltiel stared up at the Doctor out of Clover's big eyes.

"I understand, Blue Thing. But Clover and I have arrangements. She will not leave me willingly, nor I her."

"Then you go first."

The Doctor bounded toward Klaltiel and Clover, her jaws gaping open, dripping hot saliva as she sprang.
