Quinn drove back in less than twenty minutes, but her driving was extremely questionable. Once she arrived back in Lima, she felt lost.
She had no idea of where to go. She didn't feel comfortable in going back to Mercedes'; Mercedes was still camping and Quinn didn't want to burden her parents by being a depressive mess around them for the weekend. She couldn't go home; there was no way she could admit to her parents that her relationship was in such a bad situation.
She was sat in her car, totally flustered by what had happened. She needed to be around someone. But she couldn't think who.
Then she suddenly realised there was one person who couldn't come on the camping trip. Someone who had to take care of an inebriant hamster.
"Why aren't you camping?" Brittany asked as she walked into her living room holding a pint of milk in one hand and a box of chocolate powder in the other. She placed them on the table along with two glasses. Quinn watched with a smile as Brittany began adding the chocolate powder to the milk and mixing it up.
"There was a bit of an… issue." Quinn said cautiously as she accepted her glass of chocolate milk. She took a sip and oddly, it made her feel a whole lot better.
"Did Kurt's hair set fire?" Brittany took a seat on the floor opposite Quinn. "He wears an awful lot of hairspray, y'know."
"No, no, nothing like that," Quinn replied with a laugh as she took another sip. "I really appreciate you letting me crash with you, Britt." Quinn started after a long silence. "Especially considering it's the middle of the night,"
"Oh, it's fine." Brittany said with a genuine smile. "I don't like being alone anyway."
"Me neither." Quinn muttered.
"Do you want to talk about what happened? That always helps me when I've got a friend who set his hair on fire."
"Kurt didn't set his hair on fire!" Quinn insisted. "Well… it's kinda relationship stuff."
"Oreo?" Brittany asked as she pulled a packet of oreos out from behind the cushion. Quinn shook her head. "Is it him with the ferret on his head?"
"Yeah," She forced a smile.
"I think he really likes you." Brittany said delightfully, obviously unaware of Quinn's tone.
"I did too." Quinn's voice once again drifted off as she hid her frown by sipping at her milk.
Seconds later, the doorbell rang. Brittany sprung to her feet with a smile, as though she'd invited the Queen and she'd finally turned up.
"He's here," She squeled.
"Who's here?"
"Puck!"
"What?!" Quinn jumped to her feet as her eyes stretched wide open. "How did he know I was here?"
"I updated my Facebook status. And he messaged me saying he was coming over." She replied happy as ever, making her way to the door.
"No," Quinn whined, pulled Brittany backwards by the shoulders. "I don't want to see him!"
"Oh," Brittany said, as though finally realising what Quinn was so frustrated about. "Got it," She winked as she carried on to the door. Quinn presumed she was going to send Puck away.
Moments later, Brittany returned with her cell phone held out, which she handed to a very confused Quinn. Her expression stayed befuddled until she heard a deep voice say "Quinn?" from the phone.
Her eyes widened in shock once she realised Puck was on the other line.
"What are you doing?!" Quinn hissed as she threw the phone to Brittany.
"You said you didn't want to see to him!" Brittany said innocently. "So… listen." She walked over and handed the phone back to Quinn, who sighed, but took it back.
"Quinn?" She pressed the phone to her ear, but couldn't summon the courage to face him, even if it was just his voice. "I can hear you breathing." She could hear the laughter in his voice. "I'm sorry." He said, after a long silence.
"That's it? You're sorry?" She snapped. "That's all you have to say?"
"I didn't mean to hurt you," He started sadly.
"Well you did!" She could feel her throat catching, meaning the tears weren't far away. "You knew how I was. You knew how I felt about love, and trust, and relationships, and you just led me on!"
"I didn't lead you on, I-"
"I gave up everything for you! I lost my best friend, I'm never going to speak to my parents again-"
"I never meant for any of that to happen to you! I didn't plan this,"
"Well why would you get so intense when you knew you were leaving?"
Puck remained silent, feeling worse about himself than before.
"I never planned on falling for you-"
"But you planned to leave!" Her voice was less angry, but more of a plead. She was pleading for answers. For reasons to why he would be so cruel to her. He remained silent, so she quickly ran to the front door and opened it, seeing Puck sitting on the porch bench.
"What am I supposed to do now?" She let her hands drop to her side in exasperation. "Am I supposed to just move on and forget you?"
"I don't want you to forget me," He stood up slowly. "I meant it when I said it. I love you."
She wanted more than anything not to accept he was going to be leaving. To just run up and stay in his arms all night, without feeling time ticking away.
"I know it isn't fair to ask you to wait for me." He made his way over to her. "But I don't know how I'm gonna make it back without you,"
It broke her heart that he was leaving, but if he needed her to make it through, she was going to have to be there.
