Very quick note: There's a tiny bit of swearing in this chapter. Just thought I should give a warning.
Mother And Daughter.
Chapter 25
Jessica couldn't believe it. She was marrying the man she loved. Holding her hand up she admired her ring. It was of value to her, not because of how beautiful and unique it was. But because Adam had given her his parents ring. It made her feel closer to him. She closed her eyes and rested her head on his shoulder his arm coming to rest around her waist and they slept peacefully.
Morning came quick and Jessica got comfortable in to the pillows knowing she wasn't in today and neither was Adam. It was Sunday, so the kids were off school.
After a shower Jessica woke her daughter up and put moisture on her legs and waited for that to dry in and then she slipped on a tee - shirt and jeans. Heading down the stairs and in to the kitchen she switched on the kettle and walked to the cupboard getting mugs down and the milk from the fridge. A pair of arms wrapped themselves around her waist and Jessica startled, dropped the carton of milk all over the floor. "It's OK " She told herself.
"Um?" Adam asked glancing at her and then walking out of the kitchen he headed up the stairs to get ready for work.
"It's fine " She whispered. Just as her mobile rang. Dropping the now wet cloth in the sink she went in search of her phone. Finding it, she answered it quickly.
Phone - call
"Miss Harrison?"
"Sure "
"Your daughter's ready to be discharged "
"OK" Jessica replied, not liking to admit that she didn't have her eldest daughter living with her.
End of phone - call
Nodding, Jessica closed her phone and replaced it in her handbag where she knew where it was the next time she needed it and walked back in to the living room.
That afternoon Kelly collected Hannah from the hospital and Hannah decided that she wanted to go and see her mum. Kelly wasn't pleased about this but Jack had encouraged Kelly to let Hannah do as she wanted for a while.
Pulling up outside the Victorian three storey house Hannah jumped out, shut the door, opened the gate and walked up the stone steps and rang the bell waiting for someone to answer to her. She could hear shouting and then someone jumping down the stairs and laughing about it. The door opened slowly and there Jessica stood.
"Mum?"
"Sure "
The girl stepped in to the house and stepped through the other door as the front door was shut and they retreated in to the living room, chatting about everything and anything when Hannah noticed the ring on her Mum's finger.
"It's gorgeous " She smiled, pleased her mum had found a bloke who loved her and who loved her two kids.
"I know " Jessica smiled in reply. Amelia walked in to the room.
"Hello " Hannah smiled, wanting to sound friendly to her sister and later she discovered, brother.
The 12-year-old was curious to see who this older girl was, and what she was doing here.
"What's you name?" Hannah asked.
"Amelia "
"That's a nice name" Hannah asked, putting her cup down.
Jessica picked up her own cup of coffee on the table before sitting down and nodding at her daughter. As they began to plan Ben's surprise.
Hannah was going to pretend she was taking Ben out for a meal - just them two - but really Jack was going to drive Ben (blindfolded ) to the house where his friends would be waiting for him and Hannah would surprise him. Jessica nodded it sounded like they had everything planned.
Hannah picked up her mobile and checked the time as she realised she hadn't contacted Kelly like she said she would. She got up and placed the cup in to the sink before picking up her bag from the chair watching as Jessica also stood and followed her out of the kitchen, and they stood by the door Hannah's arms going around her mum's waist as they hugged.
Jessica shut the door and started on the kids tea and looked up at the clock wondering what time Adam would be home from work.
Back home in her bedroom Hannah realised something. Grabbing her notepad where she kept details of when she was and wasn't on, she flipped through it frantically discovering.
23 March 2014
'Late'.
"Shit!" She yelled, realisation that she could be pregnant setting in.
I have now decided how the last few chapters of this story will pan out (which is unusual for me, as I tend to rush the last chapter of my stories) Chapter 26 and 27 will focus on Ben's birthday party and chapters 28 and 29 will focus on Adam's and Jessica's wedding day. 5 chapters left.
