I'M BACK!

*ducks various missiles, several plates and a teacup*

I'm so sorry guys! I've been SOOOOOOOOO busy! I mean I had exams, so absolutely no time at all to write fanfiction, especially not this fanfiction.

In other news, as I have been away so long, we can freak out about SHERLOCK and THE XMAS SPECIAL!

WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

enjoy!

They went to the Doctor's new friend, Guido's house. Immediately Sherlock saw why the Doctor had allied himself with Guido. Before the guy could even open his mouth Sherlock spoke

"Your daughter is obviously inside the school, there is a dress poking out of that hamper, old and worn, so probably the girl's nightgown, left behind. You're worried, frown lines have visibly deepened from a few moments ago, when you entered your house again, the sight of the house you shared with your daughter makes you sad, but why? If it was an ordinary school, then you would be worried, but not as worried as you are now. But the school is selective, the way people whispered about them when they came outside, it was obvious. So why would a man, who has obviously tried very hard to get his daughter in to a good school try to get her out again? Because you've sensed something wrong, haven't you? And you're right, something unnatural is happening in there, but you still think you have a chance to get your daughter out. What has it been, less than week after your daughter left, so there isn't a good chance that your daughter hasn't been converted yet." He rattled off, hardly pausing for breath.

"Also you work for the Arsenale. The stuff in the barrels is gunpowder."

Molly leapt off a barrel she had been leaning against. The Doctor whistled

"You know, most people just nick stationery from where they work"

Guido shook his head

"How in heavens name did you know that?"

"I observe" Sherlock replied curtly.

"You said you had something to show me" the Doctor prompted

"Yes…" Guido hustled around the room and found a map. He laid it onto the table and everyone gathered around to look.

"As you saw, there's no clear way in. The House of Calvierri is like a fortress. But there's a tunnel underneath it, with a ladder and shaft that leads up into the house. I tried to get in once myself, but I hit a trapdoor."

"You need someone on the inside." Sherlock said

"No" the Doctor said forcefully

"You don't even know what I was going to say!" Sherlock protested

"Er, that we pretend Molly's an applicant for the school to get you inside, and tonight she comes down and open the trapdoor to let us in."

Sherlock deflated "Oh. So you do know what I was going to say."

"Are you insane?" Molly asked

"We don't have another option." Sherlock insisted, shooting her what he hoped was an apologetic look, but it may have ended up looking simply amused, because she scowled at him.

"He said no, Sherlock. Listen to him."

"There is another option." Guido pointed at the barrels

Sherlock nodded, he had thought of that option "The gunpowder."

The Doctor wrinkled his nose "I have a thing about guns and huge quantities of explosive."

"What do you suggest, then? We wait until they turn her into an animal?" Guido snarled

Sherlock took Molly's hand "You'll be there three, four hours. And you know I'll come and get you. Remember our first anniversary?"

Molly laughed "you took me to a gay bar, for a case you were investigating. I only realised what it was when some poor woman started hitting on me! Then her brother kidnapped me to get revenge. Not exactly an ideal date"

"But I rescued you didn't I?" Sherlock asked

"OK" said Molly "the way you beat up the thugs was pretty romantic." She sighed. "OK, I'll do it"

"No. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. It can't keep happening like this. This is how they go." Sherlock frowned. How who go?

"But I have to know." The Doctor continued "We go together, say you're my daughter."

"Your daughter? You look about nine." Molly snorted

"Brother, then."

Sherlock sniffed "not enough family resemblance. Fiancé."

Molly looked very upset "I'm not having him run around telling people he's my fiancé."

Sherlock realised what he had said "No. No, you're right."

"Thank you." Molly said, though, she still looked unhappy.

"I mean, they've already seen the Doctor. I should do it" Sherlock said

"You?" Molly raised her eyebrows

"Yeah. I can be your brother." Sherlock stated

"Why is him being my brother weird, but with you, it's okay?" Molly asked. "This whole thing is crazy! They're vampires, for God's sake."

"We hope." The Doctor said ominously

"So if they're not vampires..?" Molly's question hung in mid-air

"Makes you wonder what could be so bad it doesn't actually mind us thinking it's a vampire." At the last word he twisted his lips so that he was doing a very bad impression of one of the blood suckers.

-ooo000ooo-

A few hours later, both Molly and Sherlock were standing in front of Signora Rosanna herself, and a young man who was quite obviously her son. Sherlock was explaining their 'situation' with flawless articulation, using their pre-arranged cover story. Molly stood awkwardly by his side.

"Both of our parents are dead from the plague. I'm a gondola driver, so money's a bit tight, so having my sister go to your school would be a God-send. Your school offers a chance for betterment, escape. My sister is 26 now, but what prospects are there for the sister of a gondola driver? There's no future for us. No future but you."

"I am moved by your concern for your sister. I believe protecting the future of one's own is a sacred duty."

"Signora, she is my world." Sherlock said, bowing slightly, but also smiling down at Molly at the same time. She smiled back at him, then delivered her part of the speech

"Also Signora, we have references from the king of Sweden."

Signora Rosanna sat up sharply "What? Let me see!"

Sherlock gave her the Doctor's physic paper, while the woman's son, circled Molly. Sherlock was starting to get the tiniest prickling of unease. What if he was wrong? No, he couldn't afford to think like that. This was the only option. He would see Molly in a few hours.

"What say you, Francesco?" the woman asked her son "Do you like her?"

"Oh, I do, Mother. I do." He smiled without humour.

"Then we would be delighted to accept her. Say goodbye to your sister."

The steward took Sherlock by the arm and began to pull him away. He struggled against his grip, trying to shake him off, get one last look at Molly.

"Tell Uncle… Doctor I'll see you both really soon, okay?" she laughed, though Sherlock could see that she was scared "I'll be fine."

Just before the door closed, Sherlock saw Francesco behind her, giving her a look akin to pray. She smiled, and his teeth were needles. Sherlock just had time to shout Molly's name before the door slammed shut and he was left with one thought.
