Chapter Twenty Five: Bone Deep

I found Legolas resting, his back to a tall pine tree. I seated myself next to him, then leaned into him, letting his warmth spread through me. I closed my eyes, letting my doubts and worries fade away. I was safe with these guys.

I didn't remember falling asleep, but when I opened my eyes, the Elf was snoring. I giggled, moving lightly so as not to wake him. I was about to attempt to climb one of the trees when a shrill cry echoed through the night, chilling my bones.

"Get behind me!" Legolas stood, knocking an arrow.

I looked around, "Where's Faramir?"

I heard the scream again. I ran through the night, ignoring Legolas' calls.

I stopped and turned. A Shade stood behind me. I screamed, forgetting the knives at my belt. I fled, glancing over my should to check if it was following me, and literally ran into Faramir.

"Faramir! What were you doing?"

"I was scouting the area."

Something growled behind me. It was one of those monstrous wolves the Orcs rode. It was a Warg.

I took out a knife, waiting. Then a Shade materialised in front of it.

"Um...RUN?!" We turned and ran deeper into the trees. Faramir stayed behind me. Then he stumbled and fell. I turned to help him up and gasped, stepping backwards. There was a purple knife in his back, dripping a putrid yellow liquid. He looked at me with sad eyes.

"NO!" I turned to face the thing, tears streaming down my face, "YOU LITTLE-"

"Hey!" Legolas stood on the edge of the path, waving his arms franticly. He ran off into the trees. The Shade followed.

I knelt by Faramir, clasping his hand. All the colour had drained from his face. His breathing was short and ragged.

"No..."

"Leave me...Seek help in Gondor..you will always be welcome there... ..."

I leant over and kissed him on his forehead, "Goodbye..."

I stayed there a few long moments, before I heard a growl behind me. I stood, drawing a knife.

"Nobody messes with my brother! And I mean NOBODY!" It charged at me. I released the knife. It plunged into its head, blood spraying everywhere, but the Warg ignored it. I was about to draw another when the thing leapt at me, knocking me over. I squirmed under its weight. I kicked it in the face, but its jaws slammed shut on my shin. Its teeth sunk deep into my flesh, through layers of nerves and muscle and hit my bone and kept going. I let out a high pitched scream, spots dancing in front of my eyes.

Then the beast went limp on top of me. I looked and saw an arrow sticking out of its back. I pushed it off me, standing. I leaned into Legolas, sobbing. The pain in my leg was nothing compared to the loss of a friend.

And it was all my fault.

Only two shall go...

Faramir POV

Soon the pain died away. He had watched Luna fight the Warg. He had watched it sink its jaws into her leg. Now, she and the Elf were headed back to the camp. He had no doubt Legolas would watch out for her.

He felt stronger now. He stood slowly, looking around. Then he saw his body lying on the forest floor.

"Hello, brother." Faramir glanced up to see Boromir, "Death is funny thing, you know. Come. There is a place in the Great Hall for you."

Faramir glanced at his body once more, then nodded and followed his brother.
