Chapter 23

I gasped in shock as I sat up straight, my heart pounding as I looked around the white room I found myself in. Where's Jack? I stood up and walked over to the wall when I heard a slight whisper from behind me. I turned slightly, my hair brushing over my bare shoulders causing my attention to go down my attire. Since when do I wear white? Since when did I start wearing dresses? I stared down at my bare feet when realization finally hit me.

I'm dead. Pitch had finally killed me.

I bit my lip as I finally let my tears fall.

You have been strong.
You have helped children choose their paths... To become the people I wanted them to be.
But you story isn't done.
You have yet to discover who you are meant to be.
You have yet to choose Evangeline

I didn't realize I had bent over until the voice stopped speaking. I stood up from my crouched position, my hands still pulling at my hair, when I came face to face to a Blue Sandman. I stood there for a moment, my eyes taking him in as I backed up against the wall, my heart hammering in my chest and he smiled kindly at me. He stood with his right hand out while his left hand held his stomach as if he was bowing and asking me to follow him.

I looked around, noticing that we were no longer in the white room, but in the woods where I had woken up a year or so ago. I looked back at him, my teeth chewing on my lower lip, as he smiled expectantly. I sighed and crossed my arms over my stomach and walked towards him.

You still have charges to guide and protect.
You still have one charge in particular who is coming to their crossroad as we speak this very moment.

I shook my head in confusion and looked up at him as he placed his right hand on my bare shoulder.

"I still don't understand."

He shook his head, smiling as his eyes danced with humor.

Evangeline
Why do you think you are here?
Why do you think I have given you so many chances at life.

I sighed, shaking my head, as I looked around us at the barren trees covered with snow. I bit my lip and looked up at the night sky to see no moon, yet everything was bright.

"Maybe you're a sadist."

I grumbled lowly and looked down at my toes. I looked up slightly to see the Man looking at me with his eyebrows lowered. I bit my lip and shook my head, hiding behind my bangs as I felt my cheeks grow warm. I shrugged instead of giving him another spoken response.

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where is bent in the undergrowth;

I looked up at the Man to see he had disappeared, but I was now standing on a side walk. I looked around and saw two path's, One to my left and the other my right. I turned around to see the Man blocking the way back. I looked back at the two paths then rolled my eyes.

"Robert Frost's 'The Road Not Taken', very original."

I stumbled forward slightly and glared back at the Man, before rolling my eyes and looking down the paths.
The path to my right wasn't really a path, more of a ditch full of tall grasses that lead to a ice covered cave, where as the one to my left continued on as sidewalk towards the town of Burgess.

" I still don't understand Mr. Moon." I looked back at him, my eyes filled with confusion as they danced back and forth between him and the path towards Burgess.

You were brought to where you are standing now, because of the choices you made when you were alive...
You chose familiarity over the unknown.
So now, you must choose again.
But, don't be afraid.
For fear stifles our thinking and actions.
Fear makes us out to be fools, or heroes.
You are a smart girl, who has her head on straight. You know what's important. You know what is right.

I bit my lip as I raked my left hand through my hair, causing my bangs to stick up. I looked towards my right, tears hanging dangerously close to the edge of falling.

He is in need of guidance Evangeline.
He has his choices...
All he is in need of... is you.

I cried out as I ran, my breath coming and going quickly ,through my body as I stumbled down into the ditch and into the cave's entrance.

Two roads diverged in a wood, and She-
She took the one people rarely took.

A/N-Well, What did you think? I hope you enjoyed it, and I hope it has peaked your interests on how I'm going to finish this up. I hope you all have wonderful holidays!
