Lurking in the brine pools deep in the seas of Ultra Desert is Alkaloness. It has only been spotted a handful of times before diving missions were suspended until Ultra Desert's terrestrial life is better understood. Images taken by researchers show a sludgy, long-necked creature raising its head from the brine to eat mussels and corals living on the shores of the pools. The creature sports an impressive cobalt blue crest that runs down the length of its neck, and the small amount of fin poking above the surface beyond the neck implies that it continues down the back and possibly the tail, if it has one. Its skin constantly secretes a dense, oily purple substance that swirls about its body as it drifts to the seabed. Curious Marine Arrakayit have been seen inhaling the substance and dying rather quickly, implying toxic properties. Pokémon that die around the brine pools are immediately dragged into the pool and presumably eaten.

Typical macroscopic organic life cannot survive in the high salinity of brine pools. Alkaloness must have numerous adaptations to its habitat. Its survival in toxic environments and use of poisons to hunt imply a Poison typing, and a Water typing can be safely assumed from its habitat in lakes at the bottom of the ocean. However, very little can be confirmed about their behavior, diet, and breeding habits other than what can be hypothesized from the few videos and photographs taken before the suspension of diving expeditions.
