Chapter 25 - It's a...
"Are you sure you're okay with it?" Sara whispered. "Yes honey, I'm fine with it. Besides, it's your choice." Grissom grabbed Sara's hand. "I'm nervous, Gil. How do I tell --." A nurse came out into the waiting room. She looked down at her clipboard, and raised her head to search the room. "Grissom?"
"That's us," Grissom said, raising a hand. He Stood and grabbed Sara's hand to help her up. They walked to the nurse, who held the door open for them. Once the door shut, she walked in front of them. "Follow me," she said as she raced down the hall. "God," Sara whispered, "You'd think someone was having a baby!"
They finally came to a stop at the end of a corridor and the nurse waved them into the sterile, unoccupied room. "The doctor will be with you shortly," the nurse said, and shut the door. "Well," Grissom said, helping Sara onto the table, "That wasn't awkward at all." He sat down in his chair across from her and smiled. Sara sighed, "This is it." Grissom reached out for her hand, and she took his.
A moment later the doctor came in. "Hi Mrs. Grissom. I'm Dr. Felix." He stretched out a hand to her and she shook it. "Mr. Grissom." Grissom shook his hand. "How are you we doing today?" The doctor took a seat and turned toward Sara. "I'm okay, I had very little nausea. I feel alright. The baby is already quite active." The doctor looked at Sara's chart. "I see you're five months now. The baby's development is right on schedule. Is there anything you'd like to discuss before we start the sonogram?" Grissom looked at Sara, and she looked at the doctor. "Yes, we're concerned with me being a vegetarian. Isn't there some kind of vitamins I should be taking now?" "Ah yes." The doctor clicked his pen and began writing a prescription. "Take these as directed and you should be all set in that area. As far as you're concerned, you may want to look into some labor and breast feeding classes, if that is what you plan to do. As always we recommend it as it is natural, and is proven to reduce breast cancer." "Yes, I'll be breast feeding." "Great choice."
Dr. Felix stood up and rounded the bed. "Shall we?" Sara breathed deeply. "Yes. Let's do it." Grissom stood and came to the other side of the bed. Dr. Felix grabbed a tube from under the counter, and turned on the machine. He lifted up Sara's shirt. "This is going to be cold." He squirted some of the bluish liquid onto her belly, and then grabbed the probe from the dock. "Are you ready to see your baby?" Sara nodded, and so did Grissom.
Dr. Felix moved the probe about Sara's belly and finally stopped. "There it is. That's your baby." Sara grabbed Grissom's hand, and tears welled in her eyes. "Really? That's it?" Dr. Felix nodded. "See.. here is the head, the hands, and the feet." Grissom leaned in closer to the screen, and looked down at Sara. He wiped a tear from her cheek, and looked back at the monitor. "Would you like to know what it is?" They both said yes in sync. "It's a..." The doctor looked closer, zoomed in the screen. "It's a boy."
He hit print, and thus the first picture of Baby Grissom was taken.
