Kira so desperately wanted to confront Pitch about Sam. But she decided not to, only for one reason.
Elizabeth.
She just couldn't let her know anything about the Pooka. Nothing. She didn't even know what Kira kept sneaking in for.
The sixteen year old sighed after taking a shaky breath. She ignored her sister's questions, told her to keep watch, and went in.
She knew her father wasn't home, or here. He was giving Nightmares to children.
Oh, she remembered when she learned that. It was just a week ago, and he still didn't know that she knew he was the Nightmare King.

Kira knew Death would kill her for sneaking out, but she couldn't resist. The sixteen year old felt nervous. What if she got caught? She brushed that thought away. She was old enough to make her own decisions.
"Ah! Mommy!" A voice screeched once she reached the village. Kira tilted her head to the side slightly. She felt and heard other children's fear. She always noticed that, but she never understood why.
Then a laugh sounded, and it chilled her to the bone.
It sounded like her father's laugh, but much more menacing. Kira took a deep breath, and hid in the shadows, looking around. She squinted, hating how dim it was. Sure, she can see in the dark, but not with pure accuracy. When she glanced back, her breath hitched in her throat. She slammed her back when the figure turned in her direction. First Sam and now this? How much more was he keeping from her?
Kira ran before her father saw her.

Kira honestly hated her father on everything. Why would he keep all of this from her? Sam leaned into her touch, noticing something wrong with her.
Samhain looked better than he ever has. Well fed, bathed, everything. He cared about Kira, and wondered what was wrong. She smiled softly, petting his head. She sighed.
"Dad's gonna be home soon, Sam. I better go, okay?" Kira gave him a hug, and stood up.
As she reached close to the door, a voice stopped her. "Kira, what are you doing in here?" She froze, and turned to see a not-so-pleased Pitch Black.
