Chapter Twenty-Five: Briefing

(Tai's P.O.V)

I looked around the room I was sitting in. I was here for two reasons the first was that the secret group that Kain Shuji works for wants to know what happened two days ago, it was two days ago when Belphemon attacked and Spark showed up. It was a little odd that they had no clue what happened two days ago while they seem to know so much without having any direct contact with it so it made me wonder how they didn't know about what happened two days ago. While the second is that I plan on asking just what a 'Runner' is.

"Sorry for making you wait Tai." I looked to Kain; he had told us to call him Kain since he hated being called 'Mr. Shuji' because it made him sound old even though he was thirty-six years old.

"Its fine, I needed to sort through some thoughts anyways." I noticed that he looked a bit different.

He didn't look so formal today. He had ditched the suit he had worn when we had previously met on the different times. He wore a dark red and black hoodie with a pair of black jeans while his red hair was a complete mess. I think his outfits are backwards, I would think he would wear a suit here and that when he was pretending to be a 'normal' citizen.

"What? They let me wear what I want." I sighed but I decided it was because he was a DigiDestined which meant that he had a partner that would probably back him up.

"Wait, if you were a DigiDestined do you still have a Digivice and your partner?" He laughed as he sat down.

"Yeah." I was stunned hearing that wouldn't that mean he's still a DigiDestined?

"We aren't here to discuss that though. What happened two days ago? Everything went down after we got a worm hole alert." I run my fingers through my hair remembering Belphemon and guessing that when he said worm hole he meant a Digital Port.

"Belphemon attacked Ken, Matt, Izzy, and me." He stood up so fast that the chair he had sat in was sent tumbling to the ground.

"WHAT!?" I winced and the door was thrown open moments later, I guess he's usually quiet.

"What's wrong? What happened Kain?" The guy who questioned Kain had dark brown hair but he looked familiar, really familiar.

"Belphemon, he was here Hiro." The guy, Hiro, paled hearing that.

I wonder if Hiro was also a DigiDestined at that. Yet I noticed that he seemed a little shook up hearing that Belphemon was here. I didn't like the fact of how they were reacting. From what I hear the Demon Lords are supposed to be really strong but we would be able to take them on if everyone worked together right? I mean there isn't anything that we can't overcome. As long as we stand together we can face whatever danger is thrown at us even if we're scared.

"Those four should be fighting them, if he's here then. Oh god, are they ok?" I was confused but Kain gulped.

"I don't know Hiro. This isn't how it was supposed to happen." I looked between them trying to figure out what I was missing.

What was supposed to happen? Did they have a plan for what would happen? Yet if they're DigiDestined then they should know Digimon are not easily planned against because you can never know for certain what they'll do next. It's especially hard when your opponent is supposed one of the smartest groups of evil Digimon, as Kain had said a while ago. He said that besides strength they had brains, a reason why they've managed to survive so long even though they're strong.

"I have to go back Kain." Kain shook his head at Hiro's words.

Back? What does he mean by back? Does he know something about them that they haven't told us or am I yet again overlooking something critical? Ok maybe Izzy is right that I'm a bit on the slow and dense side but I'm not that slow or dense. I will begrudgingly agree that I'm a bit dense but not slow.

"You can't Hiro." I watched as 'Hiro' curled his hands into fists.

"Why can't I?" Kain sighed.

"This is a war. We have to protect this world. Trust them Hiro, we need to protect this world." I wanted to ask but something told me to stay silent.

"That's right, you know what can happen if we act rashly. Let me at least check on them, my son and niece." Kain nodded before looking at me.

"I guess we should explain you're bound to have questions by now Tai." I nodded slowly, something happened just now, something told me that it affected me more than it seems.

"What's your question, let's start there." I looked to Hiro, he seemed a bit calmer now but he still seemed bothered.

"What's a Runner and why do DigiDestineds rarely become them?" The question slipped out before I could really think about it.

"Why are you interested now? You weren't at first; all you cared about was your sister." I sighed and I thought back to what Spark said, she called my sister a Runner.

"A runner named Spark Gallant saved us from getting killed by Belphemon; she said my sister was a Runner." I saw their eyes widen.

"Why didn't I place it before? Hikari Kamiya, the Harmony Runner, why didn't it click till now?" I saw Hiro sigh at Kain's words.

"Runners either investigate things or they help fight Digimon when a world's DigiDestineds can't handle it." Wouldn't DigiDestined want to help others?

"Being a Runner runs the risk of death since most Digimon who would warrant them coming aren't afraid to kill." I thought about what Kain had said about his girlfriend for some reason.

"Also because once you're a Runner you can't just stop being a Runner. Also we're humans, controlling emotions aren't easy." Hiro's last comment both confused me and caught me off guard.

"Even now you can't forgive yourself Hiro." Kain's words confused me.

Who am I kidding most of their comments to each other are confusing me. I don't know who the heck Hiro is or what he does while they seem to know each other really well. Was Hiro also a DigiDestined? Or what? I don't understand. Maybe I should've let Izzy come along with me like he wanted to.

"Hiro has a little sister who he left a long time ago. Hiro's a Runner who fell in love with someone from a different world; he had to choose between his sister and the girl he loved." I was surprised by that, he's a Runner, the group of people that my sister supposedly belongs to.

I remembered something my mom once told me. I felt bad for his sister because I remembered his comment about his son. He had chosen the girl over his sister just like my mom's brother choose a girl over her. She was so upset at her brother, even now. She never mentioned him until Kari and I had accidentally found a picture of him and her from when she was in Middle School. Her brother walked away and she hasn't seen him in many years, well over ten years.

"I tried to contact my sister but she told me to go to hell, said after twelve years of no contact she didn't want to hear from me again." I couldn't blame his sister.

"You can't blame her Hiro, your parents abused her and you left her alone. She got removed and placed in foster care; all the while her beloved older brother was gone." Hiro glared at Kain before looking at me.

"Whatever, that would be a conversation to have in private Kain. The topic of my sister is just as swore as the topic of Yune." The air was suddenly tense and I looked away, it also felt kind of awkward now too.

"Any other questions?" I debated whether or not I should ask why my sister was known as the Harmony Runner or not.

"Yeah, why is my sister known as the Harmony Runner?" I had to know or it would eat at my brain until I figured it out.

"Why don't you explain that one Hiro, you know more about that than me since I retired from being a Runner years ago." I looked at Hiro and I felt the worry beginning to eat away at me again, I was trying hard not to worry about Kari but it was hard.

"She gained the title because she's the DigiDestined of Harmony; she's the DigiDestined of Light here while in a different world she's the DigiDestined of Darkness. It's hard to explain since you don't know much about parallel worlds." He scratched his head as he seemed to think.

"Just explain it Hiro, we can explain the different terms later. You personally know what it's like to worry about a sister who you haven't seen in a long time." It was then that something dawned on me.

This is Kari we're talking about, she's really kind and she helps everyone she can. She had admitted that she liked the two twins, Koji and Koichi. If she happened to fall in love again then she would be forced to make the decision. Would she choose them or would she choose us? Would I ever get to see her again?

"Fine this is so going to confuse him; I didn't even understand it until I had my own run in with the Gallant Girl, speaking of her. Kain go and tell Amaya to trace her, we need to know what that girl's doing. The actors are lining up for that prophecy we thought we were apart up." I was confused but I saw Kain's eyes go wide.

"What prophecy?" They looked at me; they both seemed to think about if they should tell me.

"Harmony shall raise in the form of an infant,

From the day of birth they carry the existences of two.

Light and Darkness shall be born separately but will join together.

A group of six shall come together,

Three bound by world

Two bound by ties

One bound by fate."

My eyes drifted to the Digimon, it kinda looked like a rabbit almost. It had reddish pink eyes and a thin crescent moon on its forehead where what seemed like what would be hair came from. It was white almost looking pink with purple on its four set of ears I'm guessing. It has crescent moons on its arms and on its stomach while it had a pink ribbon crossing its chest that was pinned together by a medallion that had a crescent moon on it that was sleeping or so it looked.

"Lunamon!" They both seemed surprised but the rabbit like Digimon, Lunamon, only smiled.

"It's been a long time Hiro, Kain. Coronamon has gone with the angel to her side." They seemed stunned now while I stared at the Digimon, it gave off the air of knowledge and something told me that she knew more than anyone ever would.

"The prophecy is unlike any other that has ever been told because it is one that comes from the very first Digital World, the one that caused all of the parallel worlds to be created." How would she know of this prophecy since it's more than likely very old since it came from the very first?

"Lunamon is a native of that world. She along with fifty-seven other Digimon has been spread out throughout the worlds from the very first world." My eyes went wide and I stared at the small Digimon, she didn't seem like she would be that important.

"You're wrong about the numbers Kain. There are only fifty-two other Digimon besides myself that came from the first world well that's beside the point. Should I tell you the rest of the prophecy, Taichi Kamiya?" How does she know my name, let alone my actual name not my nickname?!

"What do you mean the 'rest' that was all that you told us twenty-two years ago." Kain sounded mad this time while Hiro narrowed his eyes slightly.

"I am sorry about that; I truly thought that Yune would be the Harmony but that day when she died. I found out the one thing that disproved her of being Harmony, she only existed in this world while she had many other parallel versions." This Digimon is just confusing me now.

"From what you said she was supposed to have a parallel version of herself." Lunamon shook her head.

"No, only one was supposed to exist but the soul would've been split into two halves and they would be born in different worlds. Hikari who is ironically the darker half was born here and the other half, Kou was born in the world where she currently is." They were confused by what she found 'ironic' but I got it.

"Hikari means lights." Lunamon nodded her head.

"Hikari might be the darker half but she's the kindest darkness ever to exist, she's marked as Light because she has the trait of the Light. It's confusing, you humans will probably not grasp it that well since I cannot explain it any better." She was right that I wouldn't understand it because I didn't.

"What's the rest of the prophecy but explain it not tell us it word for word Lunamon." Lunamon sighed but nodded.

"Once all of the key role players are gathered the war will go all out. The side that can fight without faltering will be the side who wins. The side who will take the greatest risk will be the winner. It all boils down to who has the strongest will to survive. Be it the DigiDestined or the Demon Lords, it could be either. If the DigiDestineds win then the Demon Lords will exist no longer while if the Demon Lords win then the worst case scenario will occur." I watched as Lunamon began to give off silver light.

"What's the worst scenario?" Lunamon shook her head.

"Sorry my time is up, Coronamon and I used the last of our strength to open a Port for the Angel to go though." With a burst of silver light and what I assumed to be data Lunamon disappeared but no egg formed in her stead.

"Just when a new lead is given it's gone!" Kain grabbed his head and I had a feeling he wanted to scream.

Ok so I don't really like this Chapter but it seems necessary, ever had something you didn't like but was needed? Yeah I feel like this Chapter is one of those things.
