New Years meant new beginnings for Hikari and Mako, as they were seen cleaning up the apartment. Actually, it was cleaning up after Gray Star who was seen lying down on the couch (as usual). This was Gray Star's attitude towards a new year: it's just another day, who cares? What's the big deal of a change in a second, minute, hour, or even a day? January 1st is still the same as October 1st. A new day in the year to her meant nothing. It's just as same as the day transitioning from a Thursday to a Friday. So she didn't see the real big fuss about it.

Crona's view? Who cares? That's what he thought.

Mako was trying to broom under Gray Star's legs, where she extended it onto the coffee table. Mako sharply inhaled. "Gray Star, would you kindly move your legs away from the broom?"

"Mako? Would'ja move your broom from under my legs?" She started to mock him. "Very funny." He rolled his eyes and proceeded to clean up after her.

"Well, that's the last of it." Hikari set aside the cleaning supplies and sat onto the couch.

"Alright." Crona actually cleaned an area. Mako finally finished and joined the rest of them.

Gray Star sat upright and stretched. "Well time for a workout-! Ah! Where did my numchucks go?" She patted her sides and felt the couch. She felt her sides and legs. "Ah damn it, they're hooked on to the handle bars of the motorcycle." She threw the keys at Mako.

"Go be a doll and get me my numchucks, would ja?"

"But..it's cold outside." Mako gazed out through the window.

"We're in Nevada. It's not cold." Gray Star groaned.

"You know, I'm sick." Mako argued.

Gray Star gasped in sarcastic pity. "Aw, is noodle legs here going to catch a cold?"

"It's freezing too, the bike is parked into the shed from across the street!" Mako protest.

"Do it, boy!" She squinted.

Mako pouted. "Ah, fine." He crossed his arms and scaled down the stairs. Going down the stairs was him muttering words under his breath. He felt his arms.

"Stupid Gray Star making me do her shit. Ah-Choo!" He sneezed and rubbed his nose.

"Why are you cold?" A voice was heard behind him. He turned around to see a new face of a girl standing behind him. She wore a warming smile and made eye contact with him, even tilting her face while chuckling. She was a new face indeed and someone who caught his attention. With brunette hair flowing along with the wind and glistening viridian eyes, this image surely caught Mako's attention.

"I'm Lina, I'm in twelfth grade, and I'm new here." She introduced her self and extended her arm to meet her hand with Mako's. Mako hesitated to reach out for her from being nervous. He awkwardly chuckled.

"Uh, I'm Mako. I'm a freshman..here." He trailed off, making the conversation a little bit awkward judging by how his eye focus was kept away from Lina. She hesitated to stay and talk but asked him what he was doing outside when he looked sick.

"So..why are you out here?" She fought her hesitation against an urge of curiousity. Mako snapped out of his loss of focus and payed his attention back to her with eyes lit up with alarm. "Oh! My frien-er um roommate unwillingly forced me to get out here and get her numchucks."

"Your roommate? Well, did she know you're in this condition?" She raised her eyebrows and walked closer to Mako to touch his forhead. Mako's veins twitched and nervously jittered as he was felt by her touch.

"Uh, she kind of forced me too. Along with my other roommate, but don't worry she's my friend." Mako laughed. Lina appeared to look unsure judging by the elevation of her eyebrow. She placed her hands on her hips.

"If they were your friends, they wouldn't make you go out while you're sick." Lina mentioned. Mako sighed. "Yeah. It was nice meeting you. I better go inside or Gray Star will beat me up."

"So you're roommates with two other girls?" Lina was a little bit surprised but Mako shook his head not finding a problem. "Yeah, and my brother, Crona."

"Oh, Crona. He's that hot junior kid." She snickered. Mako's eyes trailed away. "You look nothing like him! But you're still pretty cute." She batted her eyelashes. Mako's eyes met with hers, seeming shocked. "No one has ever called me cute compared to my brother."

"That's because I can see the truth." She giggled and skipped away. She then made a stop and turned around. "You shouldn't have gone out there. You'll get sick. Geez, what kind of friends do you have?" Lina made that question stay in Mako's mind. He did think about the way Gray Star treated him since they were babies and how Hikari would usually agree.

So what kind of friends are they?
