Twenty Five: The New Portal

It didn't take Brittany long before she found The Ghoul 30 miles North East of Gravity Falls. He was in a grassy field sprinkled with trees and talking to three figures in long black cloaks that were a good 10 feet taller than he was.

Brittany hid behind the tree closest to them and watched.

"It worked, they took the bait," The Ghoul was saying. "The ones who control light and dark are too busy defending themselves from the little aliens to stop us from doing what we're about to do."

"I hope you're right," the tall cloaked figure in the middle said. "Because this new portal takes a lot of power to open."

"Trust me, nothing can stop us from swallowing the Earth whole," The Ghoul assured.

Brittany furrowed her eyebrows in confusion. How does he expect to do that?

"And once we swallow the Earth, we'll be the only intelligent life forms in the galaxy!" The Ghoul continued. "And then we will take our domination to the universal level."

"But that's only after the portal expands enough to swallow the Earth, closes, and the humans inside are exterminated," the tall cloaked figure in the middle said.

"Right, right," The Ghoul said. "Let's just do this!"

The three taller figures circled around The Ghoul and less than a second later, a glowing black cylinder rose up into the sunny sky for as far as the eye could see and replaced the Ghoul and the figures that had surrounded him.

The cylindrical portal began to expand at a speed that Brittany estimated was 25 miles per hour. "Wow, that portal is kinda slow," she said. "But it'll cover a lot of ground after a while. I need to warn Dipper."

She super sped back towards Gravity Falls.

Back at the Mystery Shack, Dipper, Candy, Wendy, Clox, Mabel, Robbie, and Grunkle Stan were continuing to hold off the aliens. And they were doing a good job of it too. Currently, the radius of the arc formed by the aliens had expanded from three yards to ten.

Dipper jumped a feet in the air when Brittany returned.

"Whoa, you almost scared me," he said.

Brittany smirked. "Yeah. Almost."

Dipper sighed. "Never mind that! Did you find out where The Ghoul is?"

"Yes," Brittany replied. "And while I was there, I found out that The Ghoul doesn't want to destroy the Earth."

Dipper raised an eyebrow. "Then what does he want to do?"

"He wants to swallow it whole!"

"What? Why? How?"

Brittany explained what she'd witness while spying on The Ghoul.

"How fast is the portal expanding?" Dipper asked.

"Not very fast, but it seemed to be slowly accelerating when I saw it." Brittany pointed North East. "But if you look into the distance, you can see it."

Dipper followed the direction of her finger and saw a small black light that seemed to be getting bigger.

"What do we do now?" Brittany asked.

"We need to stop that portal from expanding," Dipper replied.

"But how?"

Dipper tapped his chin as he thought. "Let me think…I know that we need light and dark to defeat The Ghoul, but now that he's opened the portal, will that be enough…?" Then, an idea came to him. "Brittany, can u super speed me, Gideon, Mabel, Robbie, Candy, and Wendy to a safe distance from the portal. Say, a few hundred yards or so?"

"Do you really need them all?"

"Well, Plan A requires me and Gideon combining our light and dark to send it into the portal," Dipper explained. "If that doesn't work, I do have a plan B that'll require the other four."

"Alright, I trust you," Brittany said.

Dipper turned to the others. "Guys, it turns out that these aliens are only a diversion. If we want to defeat The Ghoul and save the world, then I need Candy, Mabel, Clox, Gideon, Robbie, and Wendy to come with me and Brittany?"

"Where to?" Wendy asked.

"No time to explain! Just grab onto Brittany's arms so she can super speed up where we need to go!"

"Wait a second, this isn't fair!" Grunkle Stan protested. "How am I supposed to defend the Mystery Shack if you all leave me? Just because these aliens are supposed to be a diversion doesn't mean that they can't do a lot of damage!"

"Well, you'll still have Clox," Dipper said.

Grunkle Stan turned to Clox. "Do you have any powers?"

"Quite a few, actually."

"Alright, I guess me and him will handle the aliens," Grunkle Stan said reluctantly.

As Dipper, Mabel, Wendy, Candy, Robbie and Gideon grabbed onto Brittany, Grunkle Stan looked at the twins.

"Be careful," he said.

"And good luck," Clox added.

Dipper smiled at his great uncle. "Don't worry, we'll be careful." He turned to Clox. "And thanks. Not just for wishing us luck, but for everything you've done for us."

Brittany sped off towards the expanding portal.

Brittany stopped about a quarter of a mile from the portal in the middle of a nearly empty road.

There were about ten cars visible, but none were moving because everyone had stepped out of their cars to stare in fear at the portal or call 911. And when they saw Brittany and the others suddenly appear, they all did a double take.

Dipper let go of Brittany and looked at Gideon. "Ready?"

"I'm as ready as I'll ever be," Gideon replied.

Dipper was glad that on either side of the road, there was a huge open field, because this gave him a velar shot to the portal. "Then let's do this."

But before both boys could join hands, the sound of an approaching siren startled them.

Dipper, Gideon and the others turned around to see three police cars followed by a tank dragging a catapult.

The police cars drove past the kids and formed a line a couple of yards ahead that blocked the road.

"What's going on here?" Gideon asked.

Two police officers stepped out of each cruiser, but one stood out above the rest because his uniform was decorated with medals.

"I need everyone to take a step back!" The decorated police officer yelled.

"Why?" Dipper asked.

The decorated police officer pointed to the tank that was still behind the kids. "That tank is carrying a nuclear bomb. And since there's this creepy portal thing that no one knows how to stop, I've been given direct orders from the president to send a nuke into it to try to stop it before it gets any larger."
