Ch. 25: A Past Light, A Dark Future

Once Paul was standing by Lizzie, he pulled up the chair that he had brought in earlier and sat next to her. "Hey Lizzie, it's Paul. Megatron was in here not that long ago. I showed him that he wasn't scaring everyone. He remembered us though, from when we went on his ship when he was revived. I'm not sure if I am comfortable with him having remembered you from that brief encounter. But, what can I do? We can't have the others know about me."

He then let out a sigh. "You know, I kind of miss having you here to talk to. I can't tell the others about me and you were always someone I could talk to here." He then let out a chuckle. "You know, it kind of reminds me of my search for you. Of course, back then, I didn't realize how hurtful this quiet could be. At least, I didn't at first."

Flashback:

Primus, well a piece of Primus, sighed as he searched the dimensions. It had been millions of stellar cycles since he had first begun his search.

What search was that? Well, as he had watched over his children in one specific dimension, he came to the realization that things did not have to play out exactly as they had to fulfill its course. Countless times, he had watched the time go over and over and he had decided, after many watching sessions, that he was going to do something about it. But, he could not do it alone. Interfering that directly would make being their deity pointless. He hadn't created them so he could have puppets to play with. He created them so they could grow on their own and experience a taste of life and having to make choices.

But, he couldn't enlist the help of the Thirteen either. They were legends in Cybertronian minds and it would not take long for somebot to realize what they were if he brought one of them. No, he had to find someone else. Someone, with the qualities of a Prime but who could look at both sides of the war that they fought and judge both sides equally.

He wanted someone who was not blinded by the concepts of 'good' and 'evil'. While he knew that those were important concepts that did have to be taken into consideration, they shouldn't be all that a person judged on. They had to be able to see the good and the bad that both sides carried and had to have an understanding thought process. That would be a major help in stopping the war.

He was pulled out of his thoughts when he ended up in a strange dimension. In this dimension, the planet called Earth was farther behind in technology and time. This looked like the time of the Egyptians, as the Earthlings called them. So, he decided to wait. He had to judge each dimension that he went to with a careful optic, waiting for the right generation of humans to come by and then search each fan to see if they any one of them were the one that he was looking for.

So, he waited. Hundreds upon hundreds of years passed by. Primus watched the human empires rise and fall, to only rise again. He watched as great medicine was discovered along with great weapons. He watched species come into being only to be wiped from the planets surface. All of this he watched. Finally, when the time was finally there, he paused and searched the entire globe, through all information points that he could think of. But, when he couldn't find anything on his initial scan, he descended to the planet and took the form of a young human male, around fourteen years. His black hair and blue eyes were quite the contrast to each other but he did not mind. He was not caring about how he looked. He had to find his answers. Searching the globe, Primus investigated, in person, each and every fan that he saw.

His final location; Tranquility, Nevada, USA. It was a strange community and he found that there were not many fans located there. It was strange that a rather large community, city they called it, had so few fans. He had found smaller cities, towns the humans called them, where there were more fans. This must be a strange city indeed.

"Hey dweeb, haven't seen you here before?"

Primus turned, for he assumed that they were talking to him because he was the only other person around, and didn't have time to react as a bigger one shoved him back. Maybe being a fourteen year old boy had not been the wisest idea. "Can I help you?" Primus asked. He hated how high his voice sounded. His normal voice was a deep and intimidating baritone but now it was higher than that. Not extremely high but still, it was not helping.

Standing in front of him were two human boys, both seemed to be burly but incredibly stupid. That explained most of the jocks he had seen before. True, there were some jocks that were actually smart and nice, but that didn't happen too often and these two definitely were not that.

"Can he help us he asks." The one who had shoved him mocked. "Well, how about your lunch money dork."

Primus raised an eyebrow for a second before he remembered that 'money' was their equivalent of credits. "I'm sorry but I do not have any. Maybe you should try earning some the honest way." He then turned to walk away.

He winced more in shock than in pain as the other jock harshly grabbed his shoulder and turned him around. "You think you can talk to us like that and walk away?" The boy growled. He then motioned to his partner, the one who had called out to him in the first place. "Hey Travis, are we going to let this dweeb talk to us like that?"

The one called Travis shook his head and frowned. "No, I don't think we will Henry."

Primus watched as the one called Travis raised up his fist to strike. This was most likely not the world that he wanted but he would have to finish his search after he dealt with these boys.

"Get away from him you two...now."

Primus and the two idiots turned and Primus saw a girl who looked around fourteen, her hair was golden brown and she had anger radiating from her almost glowing green eyes. While she was smaller in weight than the boys, Primus could tell that she was athletic and could probably stand on her own against these boys.

"Oh c...come on Lizzie, we were j...just hanging out like boys do. You wouldn't understand. Right?" Henry stuttered out, directing the last question at him.

But, Primus was not going to let them get away with it. "No, that is not how I remember it. You were trying to beat me up for money at first and then, when I told you I didn't have any and walked away, you were going to beat me up for saying that to you."

The two boys' faces drained of color as he answered and they turned back to the girl. Her eyes had narrowed and Primus had to hold back a shiver. For one so young, she had developed quite the glare. Would probably give Solus' a run for her credits.

"You two, scram." The girl, Lizzie, said. "If I find out you bother him ever again, I won't let you walk out with a warning. You understand?"

The two boys responded by running. Primus was shocked by her control of the situation and the fact that she had scared two males away easily. He couldn't believe it.

"You alright?"

Primus turned and saw that Lizzie had walked up to him and her eyes were now ovals of concern. "Yeah, I'm fine. They just rustled up my clothes a bit." He then looked behind him. "They ran from you. Why? They obviously had you outnumbered and men are usually stronger than women." He left out the fact that he would have helped to see how she would answer.

End of Flashback.

Noise from the main area interrupted Paul's memory and he walked outside of the doors just in time to hear Ratchet tell the story of the beginning of the war.

"Do you recall when I mentioned that Optimus wasn't always a Prime? Well he wasn't always Optimus either. He was once a clerk in the Iacon Hall of Records named Orion Pax. But as he learned more about Cybertron's past, he grew increasingly concerned about the present corruption in high places and inequality among the masses. Orion became inspired by the words and ideas of a gladiator. One who had named himself after one of the thirteen original Primes, Megatronus. Megatronus vowed to challenge Cybertron's leadership and demand that all Cybertronians be treated as equals. This gladiator turned revolutionary rapidly gathered a loyal following, Soundwave chief among them. Orion began corresponding with Megatronus who came to be something of a mentor to him. As Megatronus left the gladiatorial arena for the political, he saw fit to shorten his name. Before long, Megatron, appeared before the high council to propose his vision for a just society."

Ratchet then paused before he continued. "And it was here that he began to reveal his true colors. Proclaiming the need to overthrow the old guard with force and arrogantly demanding to be named the next Prime. But Orion did not believe in violence as a means to achieving justice. The sparks and minds of the council were moved by Orion's words. Here, for the first time since Cybertron's golden age, stood someone worthy of being a Prime. But that honor could only truly be achieved by earning the legendary Matrix of Leadership. His ambitions thwarted, Megatron spitefully severed all ties with Orion and the council, and came to wage war on all who opposed him, through his growing army of followers which he named Decepticons. He vowed to claim the Matrix for himself, wherever it might lay."

Paul shivered at that. What came next was always hard for him. "In time, warfare consumed Cybertron. Poisoning the planet, to its core. Orion journeyed there, hoping to reverse the ill effects and found himself before the very spark of our life-giver, Primus himself. The ailing Primus sensed the innate nobility within Orion and bestowed the Matrix upon him. It was thus, as a surprised and humbled Orion Pax, came to be, Optimus; the Last of the Primes."

Paul shook his head and walked back into the room with Lizzie. All of this talk of the war was causing him much grief and he already had enough to deal with as it was. He didn't need to worry about all of this. So, once he sat down, he tried to gather his thoughts as to where he was on his journey to when he met Lizzie.

Flashback:

Lizzie, surprisingly, smiled. "You're new around here. I might be a girl but I work out with the boys at school because I throw shot put and discus at school. Those two might look the muscle but I have speed and strength while they just have strength alone. Plus, they tried to mess with me once. They didn't anticipate the ending."

Primus had to look up what 'shot put' and 'discus' was before he understood. They were events in the sporting competition called track. The two specific events she was talking about where ones that did not depend on speed, for the most part, but strength and he also found that there were a low ratio of girls to boys. That meant that she was unusual for humans. But, that did not make her the qualifying human for what he needed. He would have to study her in much greater detail. But, she seemed to be closer than any candidate he had ever seen.

"Well, thank you." Primus said.

Lizzie smiled at him and said, "You're welcome. Oh, my name's Lizzie Val. What's your name?" She then stuck out her hand for him to shake.

Primus froze at that. He couldn't tell her his actual name because, from the little information that he was finding on her, she was a 'Transformers' fan, the show that they called their dimensions doings that they watched. It didn't take long for him to compose himself a name and answer. "Peter Richard Muscovite. It's nice to meet you." He then took her hand and shook it.

That night, he turned himself into what would be known as Paul Riley Muskogee and started the long hunt for information regarding Lizzie Val. And he did find quite a lot. Through normal for human searching techniques and his own powers, Primus found a multitude of things that she was connected to. One that interested him particularly was this thing called fan fiction. He had heard about it from the other dimensions that he had visited but had never actually looked at it. But, now he found himself reading hers, finding out how creative she was and how, surprisingly, she did not take a side, per say, in the Autobot-Decepticon war. Most fans he had talked to through disguises, and from online research, he found that almost everyone was either on one side or the other, Autobot or Decepticon. But, this girl could not seemed to think that neither was perfectly good or evil. She balanced them out and told of both their good qualities and their bad. Also, to his surprise, she had created a third faction, which she called the Dragon Scouters. Using their symbol as her profile icon, she used them as an medium between the two other factions and, usually in her stories, she had the Dragon Scouters bring the two factions together.

That information, plus some other interesting tidbits, had told him that she was the one destined to be his partner to help change the order of events in the dimension that they called the 'Prime Universe'. But, he had to now wait. While she was the one, Lizzie Xantara Val was too young and inexperienced to take on the responsibility of being his partner in this endeavor. So, he created himself a technologies company and waited.

Years passed and Primus conducted a lot of research on Lizzie over that time, just in case her personality changed. But, Lizzie stayed the same in that sense and grew wiser and stronger as she aged. When she turned nineteen and began her job search, Primus used his powers to influence all of the jobs she applied for to turn her down and he borrowed the information on those turned down application's to find out more about her. After extensive research using this technique, Primus felt like it was time for her to meet him and see if she would accept his offer, her destiny. Sitting at his computer, he started to type and email.

"Dear Ms. Lizzie Val. I have come across your job applications through a friend of mine and I must say, I am impressed. If you could, come to the offices of Cyber Tronics Technologies at around ten o'clock tomorrow morning. I would love to have an interview with such a promising candidate. Our address is 129 Prime Way, Tranquility, Nevada. Our building should be easy to spot. I wish you a good night and cannot wait to meet with you. Good Fortune, Paul Riley Muskogee; CEO of Cyber Tronics Technologies." He then studied what he wrote before hitting the send button. He hoped that she would come. But, he could not see the futures of humans because they were not his creations. So, he had to wait until the time came.

The next day, Primus was walking in his office, waiting for Lizzie to come, when the speaker he set up picked up. "Primus, did you ask a girl named Lizzie Xantara Val to come here?" Prima asked him. He had asked Prima to come to this dimension to act as a gate keeper for him, just in case.

Primus was glad that Lizzie came. "Yes Prima, let her in. She is the one that I have been waiting for."

The line went quiet for a few minutes and Primus waited. He had no doubt in his mind that Prima was going to want to ask him something. Sure enough, after a minute, Prima's voice came through on the other side. "Primus, are you sure about her? I was sure that you would choose a male because they seemed to be the ones who followed our people on their 'shows' the most."

Primus smiled. "While that last part is true, you should never judge a book by its cover. Lizzie Val is stronger than you think and she is much wiser about our race than any of the males that we have studied. While I do know she favors the Decepticons and that might pose a slight problem, it will be nothing that I can not handle. She is the one that will help me, of that I am sure." He then paused and let out a light chuckle. "You better hope that Solus did not hear that last comment of yours. Otherwise she is going to kick your aft when I send you back."

He then hung up the line and went up the elevator. Once he was on the main floor, he turned and walked through the halls. When he arrived at the main hall, he was surprised by how much she had grown. If he had ever doubted her before, he would take away that doubt now, she was perfect.

"Ah, Miss Val I presume?" Primus asked.

She looked at him with a spark in her eyes as she nodded. "And you must be Mr. Muskogee. Thank you so much for having me here today."

Primus smiled a kind smile as she said that. Her manners had not changed and he knew that this day had started a strange relationship that would be strong.

End of flashback.

Paul sighed as he looked at Lizzie. He hadn't told her that he had met her before yet. But, he planned to as soon as she was awake and they were alone. But, until then, he would have to wait until the right moment.

When the base started to shake, Paul threw himself over Lizzie's unconscious body and blocked her from the falling debris. From the outside he could hear Ratchet yelling but he tuned it out. He was going to protect Lizzie, no matter what.

Once the shaking stopped, he stayed in his position for a little longer, in case something fell that had been loosened by the shaking, before sighing and sitting down. "You know, I think Cliffjumper was right about you Lizzie. You really are a trouble magnet. But, I wouldn't accept you if you were anything but who you are on the outside." He then smiled. "Though you could do something with your hair more often. It looks rather pretty when you take the time to do stuff with it."

He sighed as she remained unconscious. Why was this his fate that he had to watch her lay there, unconscious, and not enjoying the moments that were happening? It was like he was being tested since he was in a human form. But, he would take on any test to ensure Lizzie's recovery.

Feeling tired, Paul laid his head on the gurney next to Lizzie and closed his eyes. A small nap wouldn't hurt him and he still had much to think about. Optimus, now Orion Pax, was with the Decepticons and Lizzie was unconscious. Two key players, in his book, were taken out and now he had to wait two months before Optimus' return. Hopefully, Lizzie would wake up sooner but only time would tell.

Authoress: So, we are finished, officially with season one. I feel quite accomplished.
