Dinner and more for Bella and Edward Part II
EPOV
"What do you want?" I ask my father.
He looks at Bella and smiles leeringly. "To offer my congratulations."
The table is quiet. Emmett and Jasper are looking from me to my father in anticipation. Emmett knows if Edward Sr. says the wrong thing, this will end badly.
"Say it and go," I growl, making him chuckle.
He openly gives Bella the once over. "Congratulations, Dr. Swan. I wish you all the happiness my son can provide."
I can't believe this is happening. Everything was perfect up until this idiot showed his face. And on top of it, he's going to insinuate I can't take care of Bella.
"Thank you, Mr. Masen," she says tensely. She's very angry. I can feel it in her death grip. "Edward and I will be very happy together."
He smiles at her. "Why, Bella, please, now we're going to be family, call me Edward." He glances at me with a sickening smirk. "I'm sure you're very familiar with the name even in the most private of settings."
I spring up and the table rocks with my movement. Bella jumps up with me. She grabs my hand when I move from the table, getting into my father's smiling face. Bella is in my ear, whispering to me, begging me to calm down and ignore the bastard in front of me. Emmett is fuming and Jasper is beside Bella now, also pleading with me to calm down and not give in to whatever my father wants.
"Don't do this, man," Jasper says while I stare at the man I'm disappointed in being related to. "This is what he wants. He wants a fucking show. Don't give it to him."
"Please, Edward," Bella says in my ear. "Don't do it. Listen to Jasper. Don't give in. Don't give your father the show he wants. He's just a miserable son of a bitch."
"Hey!" Edward Sr.'s little bimbo says to Bella with a sneer.
My fiancée doesn't miss a beat. She sneers back at the girl. "I suggest you shut your mouth before I shut it for you!"
The girl shuts up and cowers into my father's side.
"Edward, control your woman," Edward Sr. says to me.
"Tell yours to watch herself." I say, threatening him.
He smirks at me. "Well, aren't all grown up?"
"Jealous?"
Esme chuckles at my remark and Edward Sr. sneers down at her. "I see that you've poisoned him against me."
"You did it all by yourself," Emmett counters in Esme's defense. "Carlisle and Esme have nothing to do with how Edward and I think."
"Oh really?" he says to Emmett.
"Yeah. Really." Emmett fires back. "You know what, I think your time's up. You've said what you wanted to say and insult people, interrupt our evening and I think you've done enough damage to go home a happy guy, so why don't you go back to your table now?"
Edward Sr. smiles happily. "First of all, thanks for the compliments, son. Secondly, it's a free country. I can stay as long as I like. After all, we're family. And I just found out my son is getting married. I'll await my invitation." He says it with a smile at Bella.
Rose springs up and steps in. "Like hell you'll be invited!"
My father looks around the table and laughs at us. "You call yourselves men and not one of you can control your women?"
"Is that why you left our mom?" I jump in and ask. "She wasn't controllable?"
The bastard doesn't miss a beat as he looks me in the eye and proudly says, "Exactly," with a broad smile.
I had to get him away from me before I exploded. "Where's Tanya?" I asked, hoping it would get the bastard away from me.
He looks pleased with himself as he laughs and says, "Why do you ask, son? Are you going to marry the doc but keep Tanya on the side?"
"I'm not an asshole like you."
"Pity. I would've respected you more for it." I want to fucking hit him.
"It's a pity I'm related to you," I seethe.
"Was fun making you though," he fires back with a sick grin and the little idiot on his arm giggles. What is she? Fifteen? Who knows when it comes to this bastard? He only thinks about getting his dick wet.
"Get out of here, Edward!" Carlisle jumps up and says to his friend. "You're interrupting our dinner."
My father looks at his friend with the same sick grin on his face. "A dinner I think I should have been invited to since it's a profound moment in my son's life."
Carlisle scoffs. "What have you done to earn the invitation?"
Edward Sr. doesn't answer him. He turns his attention back to me. "Oh yes, Tanya. Well, son, I broke up with her. Things with her has gotten too complicated. She's no fun anymore. I'm sure you can take her back now. I've got no use for her." He's eyeing my fiancée when he says this. Jasper's grip on me tightens. He's right to. His and Bella's grips on my arms are the only thing keeping me from murdering this son of a bitch in front of everyone here.
Edward Sr goes on goading me. "I'm sure Tanya will be up for anything you and your little lady proposes. I can tell you with all certainty that she's a hellion in the bedroom. But I'm sure you already know that, son. Perhaps, you and the doc can invite her into your bedroom."
Fuck this.
I stepped forward and Bella and Jasper's grips tightened before Emmett jumped in-between me and Edward Sr., blocking our father from my view with his bulky figure.
My brother stares intently in my eyes as he says, "He's not worth it. Don't let him fuck things up. Tonight is about you and Bella. That's it." He turns to our father and orders him to leave.
"I don't think so." Edward Sr. tells my brother.
"Get out of here!" Bella yells at my father. "You're not ruining this for us. Leave. Now!" She makes to move from my side and Jasper grabs her. She looks ready to attack my father in my defense.
Esme is the one who steps in. She rises from her seat and squares her shoulders, knowing she's about to confront the devil himself. "Why are you being so hurtful?" Esme asks him. "Are you truly that much of a bastard? But then again, Elizabeth was the best part of who you were or at least who you were pretending to be. You're nothing, Edward. Get away from this table!" She orders while he looks at her with hate. Esme doesn't care. She goes on. "You will not ruin anymore of this happy occasion. Emmett and Edward are strong men who grew up with the love of their wonderful mother in their hearts and they have met good women who want to be with them. You're not going to worm your miserable way into their lives and fuck it up. They will never become miserable, selfish bastards like you want them to be. They will never be you."
I want to applaud her. She's spoken up for me and Emmett before, but this, what she has just said, almost brings tears to my eyes. She truly loves me and my brother.
"That's because you stole them!" Edward Sr. slams his fist on the table, drawing more attention to our table and seethes at Esme. Carlisle springs back up, and looks ready to kick his childhood friend's ass for shouting at his wife. Esme doesn't look fazed and she doesn't look ready to back down. She stalks over to Edward Sr. and gets in his face. Carlisle follows her and tries to hold her back while Rosalie says the manager is coming over. Esme screams at my father. "Right after you walked away, you son of a bitch!" Carlisle keeps at grip on her while he whispers in her ear. I'm holding on to Bella as she stiffens with anger and looks ready to pounce. My girl is a fighter. I actually take a second to feel pride in the fact.
The manager approaches and Jasper looks at me pleadingly. I nod and he lets go to go and talk to the manager. Whatever Jasper promises the man makes him nod and walk away.
"Well, I guess I'm not needed here," Edward Sr. says in defeat with a wicked grin on his face and walks off.
We all breathe a sigh of relief and take back our seats.
"I can't believe him," Alice whispers as she looks at Bella and me. "Are you guys okay? Please…don't let him get to you. Don't let him ruin this. Tonight has been amazing! Edward…that was a beautiful proposal."
I smile at my god sister. Showing her I'm willing to calm down and not let my father get to me. She's right. The night has been perfect. Bella said yes to marrying me and it's all that should matter to me.
So I reassure everyone at the table while smiling at my fiancée to show I've calm down significantly despite almost going off the handle a while ago. "Alice, I love Bella way too much to let that happen. And I'm too happy to let him take away the joy of this occasion," I tell her. "I was just angry he was here to witness it and that he felt the need to come over here and provoke us."
"I'm sorry, Edward," Emmett says.
"It's not your fault."
Esme apologizes for her outburst and behavior before saying, "You're right, Edward. Your father has always been such a dick." We all laugh, making her smile and go on, "But your mom and you boys were the best about him. I honestly believe that he loved Elizabeth deep down at one point but that man is gone and we're left with the selfish man you all witnessed tonight. I believe he's unhappy."
"He'll never admit to it," Carlisle adds. "Edward Sr.'s ego won't allow it."
We laugh again and let our talks return us to our evening.
When we climbed into the back of the limo, Bella and I are in high spirits. She has agreed to be my wife and I can't be happier. I get to spend the rest of my life with the most beautiful woman on the planet.
We talk for a little during the drive to my place and kiss the rest of the time. I can't wait to get her in my apartment. I can't wait to make love to my fiancée. Bella is all for it but she also reminds me that tomorrow there are calls to be made. I fear one more than the other. The call to Jake will be easy enough. He'll want to give me a speech but he'll be there for Bella and me. Charlie Swan is who I'm worried about. He will be my most fearful call. Bella says she'll tell him to smooth things over for me, but I know he'll call me after she talks to him. Jake will probably spill his beans as soon as I talk to him and since Bella had already innocently given her dad my cell number I can expect to hear his gruff voice on my phone tomorrow.
But it'll be fine, right?
I shudder, just thinking about him. Charlie Swan is one scary guy when he wants to be. I'm holding out hope he'll be fucking thrilled for Bella and me. He knows I'll never hurt Bella. That I'd rather eat nails or chop off my right hand first since she's my world.
"Where are you?" She nuzzles my neck and asks before kissing my cheek.
"Your dad is going to kill me."
Bella giggles. "Why?"
"I didn't ask him for your hand."
"He won't kill you for that."
"And Phil?" Bella's stepdad is just as protective as Charlie. That's another call I'm not looking forward to. When the James fiasco happened, he wanted to fly to Chicago and put James through a wall.
"Phil won't kill you for not asking either."
"What will they want to kill me for then?"
She laughs and kisses my cheek before pretending to think. "Let's see…they'll try to kill you for not letting them be involved in the wedding. If you cheat on me. If you make me feel unappreciative. They will check in with you. They won't take my word for it. Stuff like that."
"I'll increase the sum on my life insurance."
Bella's laughter is music to my ears. And when she finally calms down, she says, "Let's worry about it another day."
"Let's," I smile at her.
By the time the car stops, Bella is climbing out of my lap and I'm trying to mentally talk down the 'situation' in my pants. At least until I get her upstairs so I can ravish her. We get out of the limo and thank the driver. I grab Bella's hand, loving the way my ring glitters on her finger, and drag her into my building and over to the elevator. We kiss until it dings and opens. A couple gets off and giggles at us. "We're getting married!" I yell happily to them and they clap us and offer their 'congratulations' while Bella blushes.
We get on the elevator and I'm thankful it's only us. I have Bella in a corner in no time. I kiss her until I need to breathe and then I move down to her luxurious neck while loving the little sounds she's making.
"I love you, Edward." She pulls me back to her lips. I place a leg between hers and slightly lift her in my arms. Her heat is right where I want it and we both moan.
"I love you too, Bella," I manage to get out. "I want you so much."
"Want…you…too," she says between kisses.
The elevator dings on my floor and Bella bites my bottom lip and moves away. "Now, you can have me."
She saunters off the elevator and I follow. But then Bella stops and I almost bump into her while she stares at the familiar woman standing at my door. More importantly, Bella is staring at what the woman is carrying. When I look at Tanya and then at what she's holding, my mouth falls open because she's carrying a small backpack, her handbag and there is a little girl that is almost the splitting image of me by her feet. The little girl's hair is blond like hers. But her eyes are inquisitive like mine as she takes me and Bella in.
Why is this happening to me? Is all I can think. First my father and now I have to deal with Tanya. What is going on? Who is the little girl?
Bella is frozen on the spot but I have to know what's going on. I speak up, taking Bella's hand and pulling her along as I move closer to my door and my ex who's standing there. "What are you doing here, Tanya?"
She looks at Bella and sneers before meeting my eyes and batting her eyelashes. "I'm here to see you, Edward."
"Why?" I can feel the little girl's eyes on us; looking between all of us just the way I used to. No. It cannot be. She isn't mine.
"I need to talk to you about something," Tanya says. "Are we going to talk in the hall?"
I sigh and open my door, ushering everyone inside ahead of me. Tanya sighs and let's go of the little girl's hand so she can take a seat. She doesn't tell the little girl to. The child is looking around my living room.
She meets my eyes and smiles shyly, just the way I used to, and tightens the hold on her teddy bear. I cut my eyes away from her to Tanya. Bella hasn't spoken and I'm afraid of why.
"Tanya…what's going on?"
She sighs exasperatedly and rolls her eyes at me like I'm annoying her. "Edward, don't you think that's a dumb question? Look at her! She's doesn't even look like me. She's splitting image of you!" Bella's and the little girl's eyes snap to mine. All in shock. The same shock I'm feeling.
What the fuck? That doesn't make any sense.
"We broke up and she's way older than the last time we were together!" I notice the little girl squirming when I shouted. Bella looks at me crossly and then sympathetically at the child. She squats to the kid and smiles.
She shies away from Bella's gaze. I know how that feels. Those chocolate eyes are deep and intense to stare in. It's like their piercing your very soul when Bella focuses on you.
"The breakup before this one!"
"You were cheating on me!"
"So?!" Tanya shouts. "She's yours!"
"Why? Why hide her then?" She scoffs and I go on, "When we were together last time, the same time I found out about you and my dad, you never mentioned a kid. Your place didn't look like a child lived there!"
She smirks at me and crosses her arms across her chest. "That's because she was living with my mom."
Tanya's mom was the exact opposite of her daughter. She was a good person. But she's been sickly for years. Tanya's brother, Alec, takes care of her. Tanya was never the kindest daughter.
"You left a child with your sick mother?!"
"What do you care?" she accuses. "She's fine. Alec is still taking care of her and she loves taking care of our little girl."
I growl at her. "Don't call her that. I don't know what you're up to, but it's not going to work!"
She bypasses me and sneers at Bella. "You're doing this, aren't you?"
Bella gets up slowly and crosses her arms defensively across her chest, mirroring Tanya's stance. "What have you been doing to this child?"
"What's that supposed to mean?" Tanya laughs and it falters a bit.
"She's afraid of you," Bella states and the little girl looks even terrified that Bella has obviously picked up what she's trying to hide.
"Why don't you take your trashy ass home, Edward is going to be busy from now on with his family," Tanya says with a smile. Is she nuts?
"Bella is my fiancée. Watch how you talk to her," I warn her.
Her eyes bug out and her face turns red. "You're marrying her?!"
"Yes. What's wrong with that?"
"She's not who you want! She's just pass time until we get back together, baby." Tanya is out of her fucking mind.
"So you bring a kid here, you claim she's mine and I'm going run Bella on home and jump back into bed with you. Are you crazy? Did you fall and injury your head on the way here? I want nothing to do with you! And this isn't a conversation we should be having in front of a child!"
Tanya ignores the last part and I growl at her inconsiderate attitude for the little girl. "You want me. Did you tell her that I was your first?" She looks at Bella. "You never forget your first."
"No, Bella is my last and only. She's who matters to me now."
Tanya plops back down on my couch. "Well, you have more things to think about now other than that bitch." Bella steps forward and I hold her back; quickly glancing at the little girl and back. We are not going to stoop to Tanya's level right now.
"Tanya, leave…now."
"Not until we talk…alone."
I'm about to tell her 'no way' when Bella shocks me. "I'm going to go."
"What?" I whisper-yell at her. "Bella…no….I didn't know anything about a child. I don't…Bella…please."
She palms my cheek and lovely kisses my lips. "We're going to talk tomorrow. We're going to get to the bottom of this…together. No one is coming between us. I'm going to go. I'm going make a few calls."
I kiss her forehead and walk her to the door. She mouths 'Alice' to me and takes out her cell and closes my front door behind her.
I sigh and turn back to the revelation in my living room.
I'm a father?
