Clary's POV
I looked around the stadium with the lights shining bright on the field and in the crowd. The air was filled with the smell of freshly cut grass, boiled peanuts, and sweat. There was not other place I'd rather be in this moment, I thought.
It was the bottom of the ninth we were down by 1. I was on third base and Jace was up to bat. This would decide the game. This would determine if we would win the championships. I looked at Jace as he swung and missed I could see the nervousness in his face and in his eyes.
He swung again he missed. I silently willed him to look at me. He did.
I love you, I mouthed to him. He smiled a small smile and nodded.
He turned back towards the pitcher and I watched as his expression changed to the one he always had on the field, one with a mix of determination and happiness and concentration.
The pitcher winded up the ball and let if fly. It curved slightly and Jace swung the bat. For a moment the only sound you heard was dead silence before the stadium was a mass of screaming and applause. I broke out into the run not looking at where the ball went I glanced back and saw Jace wasn't to far behind. I looked back and ran as fast as I could and hit home base. I caught my breath and turned and watched as Jace slid into base.
I stood there as the whole team raced onto the field and I realized we just won the championships. I looked and saw Jace running toward me. He picked me up and spun me around, I laughed at his antics.
"Baby, we won! We won!" He yelled over the noise. I smiled and smashed my lips to his, and the whole world slipped away as I felt his lips moving against mine.
We finally separated and Jace set me on the ground. The stadium was still filled with chaos as Jon came walking toward us and smiled. He pulled Jace aside and gave him something, and patted him on the shoulder grinning. Jace grinned back looking nervous as he turned back towards me I gave him a curios look but he just shook his head.
Then he did the last thing I expected he got down on one knee, and pulled a small black velvet box from his back pocket, and just like that the stadium went quiet as, I stared on in shock. Jace cleared his throat, and smiled at me.
"Clary, for the longest time the most important thing in my life was baseball, and then I met you. I still remember the first time I saw you. You were standing in the middle of the hallway looking at your schedule you didn't even seem to notice everyone was staring at you. Then you looked up and stared at everyone. Then you looked at me for that one moment and my eyes locked on yours. When you noticed you was staring you smirked and walked off, and in that moment I knew you was special, and I was right. The last three years have been the best years of my life, so I'm asking you know will you continue to make me the happiest man on earth and marry me?" He asked. The whole stadium seemed to be holding their breath waiting for my answer.
I snapped out of daze when I felt tears rolling down my face and smiled grabbing Jace's hands and pulled him up I looked into his eyes and said a the one word that would change my life forever. I said, "Yes."
Jace's whole face broke out into a grin and he slammed his mouth against mine as the stadium cheered again. As I stood there at home base in Jace's arms with the team and the crowd around us screaming and cheering I knew that this was one decision I would not regret.
FIFTH-TEEN YEARS LATER
Jace's POV
I was sitting on my porch watching Clary play with our oldest child, Max he was 13 years old now. Clary quit the team a year after we got engaged. I quit the next year after our wedding when I found out Clary was pregnant.
Now we have three kids Max who looks just like me except he has Clary's green eyes. And the twins Alexandra, who had my blonde hair and Clary's eyes and face and Celine who had Clary's flaming red and my face and eyes. They turned 10 two weeks ago.
Both Max and Alex played baseball, but Celine wouldn't touch the field with a ten feet poll. She would always say she didn't want to mess up her hair or her clothes. So while Max was just like me and Alex was just like Clary, Celine was just like her Aunt Izzy and Uncle Magnus.
Clary walked up and sat on my lap snapping me out of my musings. "What are you thinking about?" she asked kissing my cheek.
"How everything is just so perfect." I said grinning as I watched Max and Alex throw the ball back and fourth and Celine sit on the swings drawing.
She smiled and wrapped her arms around my neck leaning in. I met her halfway and our lips collide with a passion that still hadn't went away even after 14 years of marriage. We separated when we heard yell "Get a room!"
I laughed as Clary blushed when she saw Max staring at us smirking.
Clary stared back at me accusingly. "What?" I said, feigning innocence.
"He acts just like you!" She said.
I laughed as she said that. She hadn't been to happy when she found out her son had a girlfriend already.
I stopped laughing when I saw the mischievous smirk on her face.
"What?" I demanded and she started to grin.
"Oh I was thinking about how you're going to react when Alex and Celine are his age and they both start liking guys and getting boyfriends." She cut herself off when she noticed the expression on my face which I'm pretty sure was green at that point, and busted out laughing.
Once I finally stopped felling like I was going to puke I spoke. "My daughter are not dating till 5 years after just to make sure I'm not coming back." I said, completely serious.
Clary laughed and kissed my cheek. "I love you." I heard her murmur against my skin.
I grinned no many how many times she said it I would never get tired of hearing her it.
"As I love you." I said.
So for the rest of the day I put away the thoughts of the future, of teenage boys I was going to have to worry about and sat with my wife on that porch watching our kids, and everything was perfect.
