~~ Chapter 25~~
A/N: Beta Dee, u/2285193/Deonne
*Warning there is some gun violence mentioned in this chapter… it is exactly that MENTIONED. It is by no means to the extreme, but please you will not miss anything if you just skip that paragraph all together.
With that being said I hope that you will all enjoy this chapter as things start to unravel.
I'm not sure how many more chapter's there are going to be, I feel like I'm getting there, but I haven't revealed everything quite yet… so may be a little bit yet.
Happy reading all
It was a strange sensation to watch Edward being shackled. The leg cuffs especially looked uncomfortable as the officers tightened them around each one of his ankles. It was the very first time I felt ashamed of what I did for a living and the very first time that I knew it was wrong for someone to be wearing them.
I walked alongside Edward as we made our way to Director Marcus's office. The guards of course wouldn't let us beyond the last barricaded wall… at least until they were instructed to do so.
I looked down to see Edwards hands clasped together as he struggled to keep his circulation running through his veins. I looked over at the officer who I didn't know and asked that he loosen the cuffs.
His reply, "You don't give my orders" I smiled up at him and slowly walked to his side, and gave him the hardest uppercut that Dee had ever taught me, knocking his cocky ass to the floor and taking his cuff keys with me.
The other officer steadied his right hand over his gun, and had the latch pulled back on its hoister threatening to shot if I went near Edward's restraints.
I laughed at him as I made my way towards Edward, "Go ahead and see what the fuck happens after you shoot me asshole." Edward begged me to stop but I unlocked them and repositioned them to fit better all the while toning out the voices that kept shouting for me to stop doing what I was doing.
I knew that I was in the wrong and that Asshole one and Asshole two would probably make me pay for it later, but I knew right here… right now… that they didn't have the balls to pull the trigger. So I made Edward comfortable… to the best of my abilities and I'd deal with my shit later.
It wasn't soon after all the fuss that Director Marcus personally came down to great us at the gate.
"What the fuck are you trying to pull here Swan?" He yelled through the bars.
"Just trying to teach your men here" I jabbed my thumb over my shoulder at their direction, "how to grow a pair!" I yelled back through the clatter of the mechanical door.
Director Marcus was glaring at me… I swear I saw red flames flicker in the pupils of his eyes.
When the door finally clanged too fully open I placed my hand on Edward's back easing him to continue through the door. He followed my led his dirty glances at Director Marcus hadn't gone unnoticed.
Taking our seats in Director Marcus's office was a strange feeling. For months I'd held this secret from Edward and his family and for months I'd always felt wrong about it. I of course had the chance to come clean, but I never thought we'd both be doing some sort of meet and great in my Director's office. I somehow figured that the two would never meet one another.
I had a quick flashback to when I was first given this case and how proud I was to be the one to bring the vigilantly and his whole family down, but also how very scared and unprepared I was for the task at hand. I didn't want to let anyone down… especially not my father.
Now here I sit… with the vigilantly in shackles across from my Director, in love with the man and trying to save him… not exactly how I'd pictured this moment in the beginning. Sure he'd be shackled and sure Director Marcus and Edward would be meeting so that Director Marcus could tell him what a scumbag he was and how I'd done such a good job.
Yet here the three of us sit, damn well knowing that this picture was wrong, but that it was right as well. I never thought it would be Marcus that would help us. He's always been such a relatively hard man… by the books… why now?
"You really shouldn't have ruffled any feathers." Director Marcus spoke softly.
"I didn't… I just set two assholes straight." I spoke direct and with respect.
"Swan, I'm trying to get you two out of this place without being detected and you're making it very difficult for me." He pressed his forefinger and thumb against the bridge of his nose.
Edward's concerned eye caught mine before I spoke again, "I don't understand. You said that we'd be talking with the President. Why would you need to sneak us out the back?"
Director Marcus slammed his fist down onto the wooden desk, sending his paper clips and pens to spill all over the desk, "You really are the dumbest god damn agent I have." He cursed as I sat straight as a nail. Edward seemed a bit agitated, but I was trained to take my shit.
"Again, Sir… I don't understand." I spoke clearly.
Director Marcus shook his head and sat back down in his chair, "That's right you don't… you never have… you've never seen what was right in front of your god damn nose the whole time… you stupid little girl." He laughed and went back to biting his thumb nail.
Before I could understand what I was doing, my body had gained a mind of its own. My hand lifted the strap from my hoister where my 22 resided and the barrel was pointed right at Director Marcus's temple.
For the briefest of seconds I thought, "What the hell are you doing? You're going to rot in jail and you can kiss your badge goodbye." But then I also had the thought of, "You're on your own." And of course knowing this everything else was insignificant. It was Edward and I or them… I chose what I felt was right.
"Bella, what are you doing? Baby put the gun down." Edward bagged of me.
I kept my finger on the trigger and my hand steady, just as I was taught and aimed right at Director Marcus's temple.
"Tell me again, just how fucking stupid I am… tell me again that I'm a mindless jellyfish… tell me again how I'm just a little girl with no mind of her own and I'll god damn well show you just how well this academy has taught me!" I screamed and watched as Director Marcus flinched slightly.
I knew that he was scared, but he'd damn well never show it. He'd never give me or anyone else that satisfaction.
"Tell me Director, what is it that my small minded brain is too stupid to see?" I tilted my head to the side slightly to make eye contact.
"Well for starters, why in the hell do you think the President sent us Inspector Clearwater?" he laughed.
"He trusted him?" I answered.
"You really are a stupid little girl." He chuckled. "Edward was only part of the puzzle, his father and mother is the box and his sister is the damn glue to keep it all together. And then of course there is his dumb stump of a brother… he was just the idiot to let the CIA in."
"Rosalie" I whispered.
"That's right; Rosalie is the President's daughter. Starting to collect all the pieces now aren't you?"
"The Cullen's have information about the President and he wants it back at all cost… doesn't he?" I asked "But where does my father come into all of this?"
"Swan, your father wasn't supposed to get involved, he was just supposed to know that you would be going undercover and that you were going to protect and serve. He was just supposed to be the proud gloating father."
"So because he was snooping around someone took him out?" I spat.
"Not someone, Uley. I can't prove it yet, but my guess is that he and someone else were working their own angel on the case."
"That doesn't make any sense. Why would Uley want my father dead, they've been friends for years?"
"My guess is that while your father was doing all his snooping, he came across the information by mistake about the president." Director Marcus answered.
"So you think that Uley is working for the President?"
"I think Uley is a man who wants titles and being a secret agent would've topped his list." He answered.
"Bullshit!" I yelled "I've known Uley my whole life and I know damn well he wouldn't have had my father killed no matter what. Someone went against his wishes. You might be right about him wanting to be a part of the secret service, but you're wrong about his involvement in my father's death." I spat.
"So you think all the evidence that you've found while being home in Forks Washington is all bullshit?" Director Marcus laughed. "You are stupid then."
"Fuck you!" I screamed, my hand shacking in anticipation of what was being yelled over and over in my mind "Shot to kill… shot to kill… shot to kill…"
"I know that Uley went against my father and I plan to find out why, but I damn well know that he didn't kill my father. I know that much to be true." I said without hesitation.
"You believe what you want. I'm going to investigate further before I rule him out." Director Marcus informed me.
I lowered my arm and put my gun back in its rightful place, "Tell me more about Clearwater… I want to know everything." I took my seat.
"Clearwater was Secrete service for the President. You were informed of this. You knew that he has many respectable medals and honors under his belt and the President trusts him fully. So you can understand with such crucial information that the President would only enlist the ones he trust the most to take care of his little problem." He said.
"Yes but why me?"
"Clearwater is a strange bird. I was completely against you being any part of this, but he was adamant that he wanted you. I don't know why and I didn't ask questions. The President has all the say I don't have control over my own damn department."
I nodded "Are Edward and I free to go?" I asked.
Director Marcus had no facial expression when he answered, "You're both free to go, under the conditions that Edward retrieve the sensitive information and return it to me within one weeks time. No acceptations and no excuses. This will be a hard sell to the President so I expect that if I'm putting my ass on the line here that you both will do the same for me."
I nodded in understanding and stood to take the shackles off of Edward. As we started for the door Director Marcus spoke one last time,
"Swan, you will be responsible for Mr. Cullen. If he doesn't return with the information that I require then you will both spend the rest of your days in a cell."
I looked over my shoulder for the briefest of seconds and then nodded.
There were three things that I knew leaving that office,
One… I couldn't tell Inspector Clearwater what I knew. He had to stay completely in the Dark.
Two…We had to retrieve the information about the President at all costs.
Three… we had no friends… no family… no allies… and definitely no one we could trust.
We were completely on our own.
So… tell me... did you all expect something like these reveals or are you shocked by all or some of them?
What do you think is coming next?
Thanks for sharing, favoring, reviewing, liking and putting my stories on alert.
