AN: Thanks for all the great reviews, you guys motivate me to get these chapters written even though I should be doing homework! ^_^ I'm so glad everyone was happy with the last chapter! I hope you all enjoy this one just as much, I had such a hard time getting this chapter right. I think I wrote it 3 different times before I found something that worked. I have like over 6,000 words worth of "deleted scenes" (you could call it) in another file. I'm so relieved to have found something that I believe is great. Okay well enjoy this chapter :)
Sesshomaru's dry eyes slowly opened sometime early in the morning when the sun had yet to rise. He was so thirsty. Dehydrated from the alcohol in his system; the previous night was the first night he'd drank to excess in a long time. He sat up and took in his surroundings for a moment. The room was still dark, and Kagome's body stirred in response to the lack of warmth when he moved away.
Gracefully leaving the bed, he found his clothes and slid them back on. Then he silently made his way out of the room, heading downstairs to the kitchen. He needed something to drink.
The light was on and he was surprised to see his younger brother eating a bowl of cereal with his attention on his phone.
"You're up early," Inuyasha noted, without looking up from his phone.
"Hn." He made his way to the refrigerator and opened it, reaching in for a bottle of water. "As are you."
"Feh," Inuyasha said as he looked up from the glowing device, "I never went to sleep."
Sesshomaru closed the door and leaned back on the nearest counter. He drank a quarter of the bottle on his first sip. It was like a liquid sent from heaven to his thirsty body.
"I guess you and Kagome had a fun night," Inuyasha smirked, wondering what his brother's reaction would be.
A cold glare was sent across the room. "Mind your business," he retorted. His anger brought a grin to Inuyasha's face.
"I would if Kagome wasn't so damn loud," he defended.
"Inuyasha," Sesshomaru warned. He would not have the idiot talking about Kagome in such a way.
"Whatever," the younger one said before filling his mouth with a too-large spoonful of his meal. Then he resumed the attention to his phone as the brothers fell into a comfortable silence.
Sesshomaru almost choked on his drink when the silence was broken by Inuyasha's question.
"So you gonna ask her out now?"
"Didn't I just tell you to mind your own business?" Sesshomaru scolded. Inuyasha took that answer as a negative.
"So what," Inuyasha glared. "We're not that close anymore but Kagome is my friend."
"Silence, Inuyasha." Sesshomaru glared back. He did not need, nor want, to be interrogated by his little brother. He simply came down for a drink of water.
"You guys already have a kid together, it's not like you can just hook up and part ways. I don't want to see her get hurt." Inuyasha knew she'd been hurt enough by the men in his family, himself included. His only way to make amends was to protect her from any more harm.
"You don't know what my plans are," Sesshomaru defended, having reached the limit of his patience. He threw the empty water bottle in the trash and turned to leave. He looked back at his brother while standing in the doorway. "I do not intend to hurt the mother of my child."
"Then you should have just answered yes to my question," Inuyasha quipped back. The volume of his voice was rising with frustration.
"I do not owe you an answer."
"No, but if you were going to do the honorable thing and ask her out, then you wouldn't have such an issue with me asking!"
"Don't question my honor," Sesshomaru stormed up to the opposite side of the island, slamming his hands on the granite. "You have no right to talk, not with the women you keep."
Inuyasha let out a sharp laugh, standing up from his seat. "Oh, like you and your exes are any better? Fuck you," he pointed his index finger towards his brother, "don't bring my girlfriend into this."
"I'll do as I please," Sesshomaru's eyes glimmered with amusement, knowing how upset he was getting his little brother.
"Say one more thing about her and I'll knock you out faster than I did my opponent last night," Inuyasha warned as he leaned over the island.
Sesshomaru couldn't help but smirk. "Fool, I'll have you unconscious before you even touch me."
"Fuck you!" Inuyasha's temper had reached its breaking point as he threw his arm forward. It hit his cereal bowl, causing it to shoot forward and hit Sesshomaru.
The older brother growled as he was covered with its contents. Sesshomaru was on the other side of the kitchen by the time the glass hit the floor, shattering loudly. He was on top of Inuyasha and forced the younger male to block the punches coming at him.
The two had exchanged blows while shoving each other into the cabinets, and even breaking a few of the doors.
That was the scene Toga and Izayoi came upon only minutes into their fight.
"Enough!" The booming voice of their father had been enough to catch Sesshomaru off guard. He turned his head towards the sound and didn't see the fist coming towards his face.
Inuyasha's punch knocked his brother off of him right as their father came around to pull him away. Sesshomaru sat on the floor in a daze as Izayoi ran over to check on him.
"What is wrong with you boys?" she questioned Inuyasha as she held onto Sesshomaru's shoulders. "We wake up to your yelling and come downstairs to this!"
"I'm sorry, mother." Inuyasha jerked himself from his dad's grasp and crossed his arms to look away.
Sesshomaru groaned as he came back from LaLa Land and placed his hand on the temple where Inuyasha punched him. "That was a cheap shot, little brother."
"I didn't even know-"
"That's enough." Izayoi interrupted sharply. "You two should be ashamed of yourselves; brawling like savages in here. This is not why you were trained in martial arts!"
"I'm sorry." "I apologize." They each said simultaneously.
"I am going back to bed." She stood up and adjusted her robes. "I want you boys to clean this mess up right now and so help me if I hear another peep from either of you." Then she looked at her husband. "Talk some sense into your sons. You are not to come back to bed until this issue is resolved."
Toga glared at each of his children before frowning at his wife. "Yes dear."
She gave a curt nod and told them goodnight, before turning on her heel and walking out.
Toga turned to glower at his sons. "It's 4am and you two idiots are fighting," he looked at the room, "and destroying my kitchen. What the hell has gotten into you?"
Sesshomaru was the first to answer as he grabbed a towel to wipe the cereal and milk off of his body.
"This brat," he glared at Inuyasha, "threw a bowl of cereal at me."
"After you insulted my girlfriend," Inuyasha interjected as he picked up chunks of wood from the broken cabinets.
"You called my honor into question."
"Yeah," Inuyasha confessed. "Because you decided to fuck Kagome and you don't even have the decency to ask her out!"
"You don't know what I plan to do," he said sharply.
"Feh," Inuyasha shook his head. "She's too good for you anyways," he mumbled loud enough for everyone to hear. Just as Sesshomaru was about to retort, Toga spoke.
"Both of you shut up," he glared at each of them, "I've heard enough. Inuyasha, this is between Kagome and Sesshomaru."
"I told yo-" Sesshomaru was interrupted by his father.
"Sesshomaru, man up," he said, earning a surprised look from his eldest son and a snicker from the youngest. "Kagome has been around our family for many years; during her adolescence she was like a second daughter to us. We are fortunate that out of all the women, it was her, who you irresponsibly knocked up." Sesshomaru nearly pouted at his father's words. "She did an excellent job with Kenichi and I couldn't imagine a woman more suited for you than her. You are a fool to have let such time pass without pursing anything with her."
"I am no fool," Sesshomaru retorted after his father's insult.
"Then why is she with that pretentious prick, Koga, instead of you?" Inuyasha chimed in. "You even got her to cheat on the idiot. You know she's gonna hate herself for that, she's not like most girls around here." He was answered with a smack on the back of his head from his father.
"What did I just tell you?" Toga scolded. Apparently Inuyasha had selective hearing. Although, he brought up some good points, warranting answers. Turning to Sesshomaru, he asked, "Well?"
"We had only met weeks before they started dating," he defended. It would have been senseless to jump into a relationship with a woman he hardly knew. He didn't even like her at that point in time, and she wasn't into him either. "Kagome was not unfaithful," he added on her behalf. "The relationship ended prior to her arrival."
"Well then," Inuyasha started with a sneer, "what's your excuse for the whole time she's been here?" This time he managed to dodge his father's hand. Smirking at Toga's frustration, he moved near the trash to discard the broken bowl fragments, and to put some distance between everyone.
"I was not aware that my personal life was up for discussion," Sesshomaru answered sarcastically. He stormed out of the room without another word, sick of his family's intrusiveness.
Toga sighed as he watched him leave. Then he turned to Inuyasha.
"Get the rest of this cleaned up. I am going back to bed." He looked at all the broken things and shook his head. "You two will be splitting the cost of repairing this kitchen." With that said he left the kitchen and went back to his room.
Sesshomaru went back upstairs where he was faced with the choice to go back into Kagome's room, or to go to his own. He decided that he wanted to be there when she woke up, so he chose to go to hers.
Quietly opening the door so she wouldn't hear, he walked in the room. He realized that he would have to take a shower, as he could still smell the scent of milk radiating from his person.
'Damn that Inuyasha,' he thought with a scowl.
There was a bathroom connected to this guest room, so he silently entered, hoping that the sound of the shower wouldn't be enough to interrupt Kagome's sleep.
It wasn't, and when he'd left the bathroom with a towel around his waist, he realized that he didn't bring any clean clothes to change into. He had a small wardrobe in his room down the hall, but he didn't feel like taking the short trip down there. Sesshomaru only left the bed for a drink of water. He wasn't expecting the mission that it would end up being. No, he would get his clean clothes later.
After hanging the towel on a nearby chair, Sesshomaru made his way over to the bed. He pulled the covers back and got in, lying on his back with his arms crossed above him, his head resting on his hands. He was so tired. Exhausted, really.
Yet, as time passed sleep did not come to him. His mind was wide awake with the previous conversation running through it.
Kagome caught his attention as she stirred. Her body turned over and her hand moved to rest on his chest. Without thinking, he moved one arm down to pull her flush against his side. He could not deny the enjoyment of her body against his. She was beautiful, and her skin was soft and smooth. She seemed to like his body heat as she lifted a leg over one of his. Still naked, her womanhood pressed against his thigh and Sesshomaru closed his eyes and drew his lips together, his blood rushing to one particular place. He looked down and groaned at the tent in the blanket. He quickly shifted his left leg into a bent position, pulling the blanket up with it and hiding his excitement. With that taken care of, he tried to figure out what he was going to do about the lovely woman beside him.
Sesshomaru did not love her, but he did care. He would easily admit that he cared a great deal about Kagome more than he had cared for another woman in all his life. He was unsure when it happened, but she changed his life; in more ways than one. If something happened to her, he would be distraught. He enjoyed her company, usually, and he spoke with her more than most people. He definitely respected her more than anyone and he appreciated everything she did for their son. Of course he got jealous when other men gave her attention, none of them were worthy of it. But why?
'Because she is incredible.'
He turned his head to stare at the dark haired beauty. So many things could go wrong between them. Most people don't stay friendly after a breakup. What would happen if he took their relationship to the next level and it didn't work out? Most importantly how would it affect Kenichi? An even better question came to mind though.
'How would it affect Kenichi if things did work?' he wondered.
There was so much to consider. What about their living arrangements; would a long distance relationship work with them? What if they broke up and she tried to keep their son from him.
'No,' he realized, 'she would never do that.' No matter what he could do to her, he knew that she'd never keep Kenichi away from him. He trusted her. That was the first time he could say that about any woman.
He looked down as he heard Kagome clear her throat.
Her blue eyes were open and he wondered how long she had been watching him stare into the distance while he'd been lost in his thoughts.
"Good morning," she said when she had his attention. She had a small smile on her face from noticing that he'd been awake for some time now and had yet to remove himself from her person. If their night together was just a fling, she figured he would have left by now. She moved her arm to raise her body a bit, leaning on her elbow so she could look down on him.
"Good morning," he repeated to her. For some reason, he seemed to forget all of his previous thoughts. His mind was too taken by the beautiful woman he was looking at.
Kagome noticed his staring and realized that he wasn't going to say anything. "So," she blushed and pulled the blanket up to cover her nearly exposed breasts, "last night..." her voice trailed off, she wasn't exactly sure what to say. What a complicated situation they'd gotten themselves in.
"Hn," the corners of his lips pulled upwards. He found her modesty amusing. It wasn't long ago that he not only got an eyeful at the now covered chest, but a mouthful as well.
"Do you regret it?" she asked quickly. In her eyes, the conversation could go in a few ways, all stemming from this main point.
Sesshomaru let his eyes wander over her form, slightly disappointed that it wasn't exposed, yet satisfied that they were still touching. He might not see as much as he'd like, but he could feel her skin on his.
His intense gaze made its way back to her blue orbs and he shook his head. "No."
Kagome smiled, feeling suddenly happy. "Me neither," she admitted. She did more than just enjoy herself; she loved every second of it.
He smirked and used the arm around her to pull her close against him.
She understood his body language and snuggled closer to him. A small smile graced her lips as she used the crook of his shoulder for a head rest. She watched as her fingers danced across his bare chest.
Sesshomaru loved her touch, it was so relaxing. He closed his eyes while one hand traced small circles on her hip.
Wonderful as cuddling was, Kagome knew their conversation wasn't over yet. She had questions and she needed answers. Not only that, but she'd recently gotten out of a relationship. Did Sesshomaru even want one? Did she want one? "You realize we have a lot to talk about," she reminded him. It was important that they put all the cards out on the table now.
He lazily turned his head towards her, opening his eyes half way. "We will discuss it tonight, over dinner."
"Well, after last night, I guess buying me dinner is the least you can do," she quipped, looking at him with a fake accusatory face.
He smiled half way, finding her joke amusing, "Hn."
"And until tonight?" she questioned, feeling a bit nervous. How were they supposed to act until they decided how they would act?
"I will be busy today." Sesshomaru turned his head straight and closed his eyes again. They would not have to concern themselves with each other all day. "I will pick you up at seven."
"And until you're busy?" she asked, still unsure of herself.
He answered by smiling to himself and giving her backside a quick squeeze. "Do as you wish."
Although she preferred to have everything situated now instead of putting it off till later, she did somewhat enjoy his answer. She supposed it would be good to give herself some time to think about things on her own, and the same thing with him. She responded by leaning her head onto his firm pectoral and closed her eyes. Continuing running her hand along his torso while she spooned him from the side. She supposed that if they were already in such a position, and enjoying it, then why stop? Nobody had to know.
Kagome let her mind wander towards the previous night and she smiled at the memories. Sesshomaru was amazing. She bit her lower lip, thinking about the things the man did to her; the things she did to him.
Sesshomaru was enjoying the light touches of her hand on his chest and abs. Her body was so warm, molded against his. He felt exhausted, and yet refreshed. His fatigue from the previous night's adrenaline, his fun with Kagome, and his scuffle with Inuyasha all combined with the relaxing feelings from the woman beside him. It only took a few minutes before he finally felt himself fall asleep.
Kagome noticed the change in his breathing and realized he was no longer awake.
She couldn't help but think, 'I could get used to mornings like this.'
A knock on the door woke Kagome from her light doze. She lifted her head up from the strong man she'd been using as a body pillow and frowned when she saw the puddle of drool on his chest.
"Oops," she mumbled as she used the hand she wasn't leaning on to wipe the saliva off. She said a silent prayer of thanks that he wasn't awake. 'That would have been embarrassing.'
Quietly, Kagome separated herself from the slumbering man and got out of the bed.
"Just a moment," she called out. Loud enough so the person could hear, but in a hushed tone as not to wake Sesshomaru.
Izayoi's voice drifted into the room. "Kenichi is asking for you."
Kagome nodded, not realizing Izayoi couldn't see her, and then rushed to search for clothes in her backpack. She left her suitcase at Sesshomaru's house and had only brought a few things here with her. She had hoped to start her day with a shower, but apparently it would have to wait. Throwing on some clean and comfy clothes, she moved towards the door.
Stopping half way, Kagome turned towards the bed. She looked over at Sesshomaru who was still sleeping. She was surprised, he rarely slept in. Moving towards the mattress, she pulled up the covers to his chin, he had turned to move towards the now empty side of the bed as she got dressed. Probably, subconsciously looking for the warmth that had left with her. Not wanting to invade too much space, since the spell was broken and they were back to not knowing where they were but worse, she simply moved the blanket up to cover his body better. After giving him a small smile, she snuck out of the room.
The hallway was empty so Kagome went downstairs where she found her son, Izayoi, and Toga in the kitchen.
"Good morning Kagome," Izayoi said as she poured a cup of coffee. "I'm so sorry to wake you, Kenichi had been asking about you for some time now, though."
"Oh, it's no problem," Kagome greeted the woman with a small smile. "I'm sorry that he woke you and didn't come to me in the first place."
"Don't worry about it, I cherish every moment with him," she said sincerely. Looking over to the child with adoration.
Kagome didn't say anything, but she smiled at Izayoi's words. She loved that woman. Inuyasha and Sesshomaru were lucky to have her. Kagome moved to pour her own cup of coffee and that's when Kenichi finally turned from his grandfather and noticed her presence.
"Good morning, mommy!" Kenichi jumped off his chair and ran up towards his mother, hugging her thighs.
Kagome set her cup aside to pick him up, kissing him on the cheek. "Good morning, sweetie. Did you sleep well last night?"
"Mhmm," the boy nodded his head. "Look mom," he pointed towards the tale, "we has bacon, and eggs, and toast. I have pancakes!"
"Oh, yummy." She placed the child back on his chair to eat; noticing that he was the only one with pancakes and that no more had been made. Not only that, but they had the chocolate chips in them too. Her eyes widened, as did the small grin on her face and she moved to stand next to Izayoi, who was putting a few things in the sink. "Izayoi, you didn't have to make those pancakes for Kenichi."
"It was nothing," Izayoi smiled and waved her off. "Look at that little face," she gushed, looking at the happy child, "looks just like Sesshomaru," she whispered to herself. "It was a small request so I'm more than happy to oblige."
"Well, thank you," Kagome said sincerely as she grabbed a plate and put some scrambled eggs and bacon on it.
"I have the cut fruit in the fridge," Izayoi informed her. "Make yourself a plate; we have more than enough food."
"Mom, the kitchen is broken," Kenichi called out while chewing on his pancakes.
"Don't talk with your mouth full," she told him as she sat down beside him. Her eyes scanned the room to see what the heck he was talking about and she gasped.
"I can't believe I didn't notice it when I walked in!" she looked at the broken cabinets with wide eyes. Nothing else seemed out of place though. "What happened?"
"I believe," Toga started, "that two wild animals broke in."
Kenichi's eyes widened at the idea. "Wild animals?"
"More like a couple of feral dogs," Izayoi added with an annoyed tone.
"Oh," the child had a doe eyed expression. He did not understand how many were a couple, or what the word feral meant, but he was fascinated by the idea.
Kagome was just as shocked and confused as her son. "How did they get in?" Where are they now?
"For some reason," Toga continued with his jest, "Inuyasha and Sesshomaru let them in." He did not want Kenichi to know that his father and uncle had been fighting, especially to the point of breaking things.
"What? Why?" Kagome tilted her heard. It made no sense to her why Inuyasha and Sesshomaru would have let wild animals in the home, and not only that, "but Sesshomaru…" she trailed off 'was with me the whole night.'
"They both happened to be down here for a bit last night." Toga explained, hoping she would make the connection. "They had a disagreement and that's when the dogs showed up."
Kagome eyed him, trying to decipher his words. She knew she was missing something. Izayoi provided the missing pieces of the puzzle.
"They woke us up with their fighting, destroying my beautiful kitchen," she said with a pout. "The dogs, of course." That's when it began to click for Kagome. "We came downstairs and broke it up. I went back to bed while Toga talked some sense into his children."
"For letting the dogs in?" Kenichi asked. He was following the story intently.
"Exactly," Izayoi smiled at him as Toga spoke to Kagome.
"I had them clean up the mess and we had a small talk before they both went back upstairs."
"I see," Kagome said, understanding. "I can't believe they would do such a thing." 'I wonder why,' she thought, 'Sesshomaru didn't come off this morning as someone who had gotten into a midnight fight.' It did, however, make her happy to know that for whatever reason he left, he came back and acted like nothing happened at all. Kagome smiled; she liked that.
