Day 2: Colors/Words/Bed Time

It was another lovely day, a gentle breeze rustling the trees in a park. Hiei and Botan were sitting under one of those trees, a beautiful sunset above them. The fire demon was lying on the grass beside the woman, watching her face as her expressions changed during various scenes in the mystery book she was reading. He found himself wondering why she enjoyed those things when mystery was a part of their everyday life.

He found himself unable to keep his wonderings to himself. "Why do you read that crap? You've already lived it."

Botan's eyes snapped up from her book, looking to the fire demon who had sat up to discuss this with her. "It's different than living through real live life or death situations," the ferry girl replied with a sheepish smile. "It's the adrenaline rush without the danger, and there's a few good romances or two to boot."

She winked at him after that last part, and he scoffed and said, "You're ridiculous."

Botan just giggled in a way that seemed to always make his soul flicker. "Oh stop. I'm just getting to the good part."

A sigh escaped Hiei as he laid back down, his eyes shifting back to the colorful sky.

Botan smiled at her companion, his features slightly tensed. She decided to put the book away, lying down beside him. Hiei didn't pull away when she intertwined their fingers. In fact, she thought that he grip tightened on hers for a split second. "I thought you just got to the good part," he grunted.

"I did," she told him, "but it can wait. The best part is right here."

Hiei found himself being thankful, for what was starting to seem like the hundredth time, that the ferry girl wasn't looking his way. Once again, her strange words left him blushing. He bit down a growl as he sneered at himself before deciding to focus on the delicate curves pressed up against his body. He squeezed Botan's hand gently and closed his eyes.
