A/N: I have a feeling you're all going to kill me for going on a seven month leave… but honestly I can explain. Yes, it's the same bullshit reasons but different. School is kicking my ass and such, then I got a boyfriend, got my heart broken, and here we are. I've had no motivation to write about love since February and I still don't, but I love all of you so I'm sucking it up. I know this has been a long time coming, so please enjoy everyone!
Disclaimer: If I owned Twilight, I doubt my life would be as difficult as it is.
Bella POV: I handed Paul his phone and he laid a hand gently on my shoulder. "We should get going," he whispered gently. "It's a good thing we didn't unpack everything. All I have to do is take our bags back to the car and we can be on our way."
I nodded my head, unable to say a word. I was going to see Seth again. At the mere thought, the ache in my chest that always existed when we were apart lessened. When I didn't know where he was or if he was hurt, I was in a constant state of panic. Being together again would help me. Yes, I'd still be worried because we'd be getting chased, but at least this way I'll know where he is and what he's doing.
All of a sudden, I heard a rather familiar blood-curdling shriek from upstairs. Bella?! Oh my god, someone help! That was all I needed. I bounded up the stairs as the screams continued louder each time. I may not always get along with her perfectly well, but I would know that voice anywhere. It was my mother.
Tearing open the door to my old bedroom, I was bewildered to find that no one was there. Just a cellphone, my mother's screams still emanating from it. Suddenly, the screaming stopped and I was met with a chilling sort of laughter on the other end of the line.
Trembling, I reached for the phone and pressed it firmly against my ear. "Who is that?" I sounded much more confident than I felt.
"Who do you think?" the voice purred and immediately I felt an iciness shoot down my spine.
"James," I gulped. It wasn't a question. I knew it would be him. The pack clearly underestimated him. This motherfucker would find me whether we wanted him to or not. "You have my mother." Again, not a question.
He chuckled, a deep throaty sound. It would almost be alluring, if I didn't know what he was. "Very good princess. As I understand it, her and yourself don't have the best relationship as of late, is that right?"
"N-no! I mean yes, but that doesn't mean I want you anywhere near her. She doesn't deserve this."
"Oh my dear, I can assure you that I have no interest in your mother. As a matter of fact, I would love nothing more than to leave her be and let her go back to her husband. And that is what's going to happen… as long as you do exactly as I say. Is that clear, sweet pea?"
"Yes," I whispered, my former confidence long gone. "I'll do whatever you want, just please don't hurt her."
"Well, aren't you a tame little doggie?" he mused. "Good girl. Now, your pack is transporting you to the airport now so you can meet that boyfriend of yours, and that's good. Let them take you there. But here's the catch: what I want you to do is tell that big oaf of a brother you have to go to the bathroom, and find your way out of that airport. Take a cab to the ballet studio on Clark Street, and make sure you're alone. If you do exactly as I say and give yourself over to me willingly, your mommy gets to go home without a scratch. If anyone, and I mean anyone follows you, not only are you going to die, but the rest of your family of mutts will die too. The best part: I'll save your life for last so you can watch each and every one of them go. Starting with your precious brother and ending with your perfect boyfriend. How does that sound?"
"Alright," I choked out, finally able to find my voice. "Alright. Fine. You win. I'll be there as soon as I can get away from my brother."
"That's a good pet," he purred. "But," his voice turned dark suddenly. "If you aren't here by sundown, not only will I kill your mother, but I will hunt down your entire pack one by one before I get to you, and save you for last so that you have time to live with the guilt of their deaths before you meet yours as well."
My heart sank at the thought of any of the boys falling into harm's way on my account and I gulped. "Sundown," I said, my voice straining to find even one bit of bravado. "Right. I'll be there. You have my word."
"That had better be a promise, puppy. Or you will live to see the consequences," and then the line went dead.
Flipping the cellphone shut, my hands trembling with the force of the phase that was threatening to rip through me, I chucked it at the wall and watched as it crumbled to pieces. As much as I knew I didn't want to die, and that vampire venom was poisonous to our kind, I had to go through with this. I couldn't stand by as I watched my brother and my friends and… Seth, suffer for my careless mistake. Nor my mother, despite leaving Paul and I. I could not let James carry on with this sadistic game.
I took a deep breath and swallowed my courage. It was time for me to grow up and face my own demons. Paul couldn't help me anymore.
A/N: Sorry for the cliffhanger ending… I'm still kind of planning out Bella's epic airport escape, it won't be like the book. I promise you I'll be back again a lot sooner, seeing as it's summer. Let's just hope nothing causes a detour this time. Reviews are love and I could really use the extra love. I love you all!
Thanks for Reading!
