Chapter 25 Hugs and Giggles
Sookie's Point of View
"What the hell Sookie? You can't just kick me out of my son's life. Who the fuck are you, to tell me to go?" An outraged Hadley follows me into the room.
"I am telling you to leave because he can hear all of the horrible things going through your head. Not to mention so can I. Every nasty thought you have had since you came back into his life has been playing through his head for the last several minutes. I will not let you do what my mother did to me. If you can't be kind you will not be in his life." I firmly protest.
"Had I think it would be best if you went and cooled off. Y'all are fightin' in front of him aint helpin'." Jason interjects from the door.
"You know what fuck this. I never wanted to be a mom in the first place. If Remy don't come back he's your problem. I am not going to stay where I'm not wanted." Hadley huffs sweeping from the room.
"Aunt Sookie, does Mommy hate me?" Hunter thinks at me.
"No sweetie. She just doesn't know how to handle all you specialness. My mama was like her too."
"Can you be my Mommy instead?" I am almost heart broken by his question.
"I'll tell you what Hunter, you can call me mommy or whatever you want in your head."
"Ok Mama Sookie." He takes a deep breath and buries his face in my neck. I pick him up and carry him into the living room. When I set down on the coach, he turns in my lap, so he can rest his head on my shoulder.
"Hunter this is my friend Godric." I introduce them. Hunter has a quizzical look on his face.
"Mr. Godric can I hug you?" Hunter remembers his thought from earlier.
"If you wish Mr. Hunter." Godric smiles at Hunter. Hunter climbs down from my lap and stands open armed in front of Godric. Godric stoops down and picks him up.
"Mama Sookie, I'm hungry."
"Well I will ask Uncle Jason where they ordered food, and we can call and see if your dad is there, ok?"
"He's not going to be there is he?"
"I don't know honey, but we can still get you chicken fingers and fried pickles either way." He nodded his head in response.
"Jason, where was Remy picking the food up from?" I asked.
"Merlotte's, I don't know what is taking so long. Lafayette said it would only take twenty minutes. He was in the middle of the dinner rush."
"Ok well I'm gonna call in a see if he picked it up." I dial the number I know so well.
"Merlotte's Bar and Grille, Sam speaking what can I do for you?"
"Hey Sam, this is Sookie, Jason said he called in an order a while ago. We were wondering if it has been picked up yet."
"I was actually just going to call casue it has been done for a while and gotten it. You going to come get it?"
"Yeah I am, there was a little miss communication on who was going to pick it up. I will be there in a few."
"Alright I will see you in a bit."
"Bye Sam." I take a deep breath and sigh. This will be ok. "Hunter do you want to go for a ride with me?" I ask turning to him. He again nods his head. I hope he doesn't go through a silent phase like I did. I get the keys from Godric and load Hunter into the back seat. We are going to have to get a car seat for him. Probably a lot more than that, I think to myself. Merlotte's is packed when we pull in. I go park around back, where I would if I was working. I pick Hunter up and go in through the employee entrance. Sam is just coming out of his office as we pass.
"Hey Cher, who's this little guy?" Sam ask looking intently at Hunter.
"Sam this is Hunter." Hunter looks at Sam and then puts his head down on my shoulder.
"Mama Sookie, I don't like his head. He is thinking about you too much. Why does he want to kiss you?" I peak into Sam's mind. She looks as pretty as ever. Wonder if the kid is Jason's. She looks good with a kid on her hip. I could give her that if she wanted it. Sookie would make a great mom.
"He is a friend of mine Hunter, but he likes me more than a friend."
"Well tell him no, he can't have you. Your my mama now and I don't like him." I stifle a laugh.
"Nice to meet you Hunter. I bet you're hungry." Sam offers with a smile. We follow Sam to the pick-up window. Lafayette and Big John are cooking up a storm. "Lafayette where is Sookie's order?"
"It's all sittin' under de heat lamps." Lafayette gestures to a large group of boxes with his spatula. "You is a sight of sore eyes girl. Where you been?"
"It's nice to see you to Lala. I've been out of town working and going to school." I smile at him.
"Well give Lala some sugar afore you leave."
"Cher, let's get you rung up and then I'll help you get this out to the car." Sam interrupts. I follow him out to the main dining room. Instantly Hunter stiffens up in my arms.
"Honey what's wrong?" I ask him.
"Daddy is here drinking." As he says this I can see from his mind the man at the far end of the room at small table. There is an empty glass and an almost empty pitcher of beer. I listen in to his thoughts. I should just leave. That boy has been nothing but trouble for me since he was born. I have had him for three years it's his mother's turn. He pours the last of his beer into the glass and looks up for a waitress. His eyes land on me and Hunter. Who the hell is that girl holding my son? She sure aint Hadley. Fuck if Hadley looked like her, I don't think I would have let her leave. Shit she's probably the freak cousin. I'd still fuck her but then I'd probably end up with another fucked up kid.
"Mama Sookie can we leave?" Hunter thinks in a whisper.
"Sure baby" I pay and let Sam take everything out to the car. Hunter sits in the back quietly with tears running down his face. I wish I could make this better for him. If it is the last thing I do I will give him a home with love. I head back to Jason's house with a heavy heart.
Eric's Point of View
I honestly never thought I would be sitting in a room with Andre, plotting to take over the state. I feel sorry for him. I don't know that I could ever kill my maker or allow Godric to be killed by someone else. Andre has been quiet most of the evening. I don't think he has said more than two words. Stan is almost giddy with the prospect of expanding his kingdom. I am sure he is looking forward to the revenue boots. Andre has called his brothers to explain what is going to happen. He is now going to make a call to his maker to request their help in searching for Hadley. Pam has been oddly subdued. I would expect her to be excited by the change in régime. After more somewhat unnecessary planning Pam offers to get "dinner" for everyone. I am almost hesitant to partake. I know Sookie and I discussed things and I know how she feels about sharing. But Dr. Ludwig told us not to drink from her, so what options am I left with? I could kill Pam when she brings in several donors all of which are short, curvy and blonde. She is so going to regret this. I am all to happy when my phone goes off.
"Northman"
"Master, this is Ginger. There is a lady here that wants to talk to you. I tried to tell her that the club was closed for the night but she won't leave until she talks to you." Ginger blurts out nervously.
"I am busy at the moment. Tell her that I will be in tomorrow night and will be glad to talk to her then." I can hear her relaying the message.
"Um she says that she will wait but it will cost you. She is leaving now. Master my head feels funny."
"Lock up and go home Ginger. Why were you there tonight anyway?" I ask.
"Well Mistress Pam said that I needed to be here for the deliveries today. I'm still waiting on the stuff for the gift shop."
"Go home Ginger. They won't be there until tomorrow morning. I will have someone else be there for the delivery." I hang up before she can continue to waste my time. I don't know why we keep that woman. Her head is so full of holes.
Godric's Point of View
I can't help but smile at how Sookie interacts with Hunter. She would make a great mother, I am only sad that I cannot be the one to give her children. My phone rings as they are sitting down to eat. "Yes"
"Son is that anyway to answer the phone." I hear the amused voice of my maker.
"I suppose not. How are you this evening Mistress?"
"Good as can be expected for a blind aged seer. Your fairy seems to have forgotten to pass on my greetings."
"I am sure she did not mean to forget."
"Well anyway, I need you to warn Eric of the meeting. If he refuses he will lose himself and her." I stop myself from asking questions. I know better.
"I will pass it along. Is there anything else you need Mistress?"
"No that is it for now. I may be coming to visit you soon. Farewell son."
"Farewell Mistress." I end the call and dial Eric.
"Master" He answers in Norse.
"Eric, I just received a message from Pythia. She told me to tell you to not refuse in you meeting. It will cause you to lose yourself and her." I reply in kind.
"So her message is as vague as always."
"Yes but would we want her any other way?" I chuckle.
"No probably not but I am sure we would be much less frustrated. When are the two of you coming back?"
"I am not sure but we may be bringing back the child."
"Oh why?"
"His parents are for lacking in the ability to understand. They also both seem to be childish and selfish. The mother is terrified of being found by Sophie Anne. The stench of fear coming off her when she saw me in the room was stifling. The father hates his child and resents that behavior "
"Do I need to send Pamela out to acquire things for a small child?" He questioned.
"I think Sookie may do that tomorrow. It appears that all of the boys clothes and toys are here, but it looks like we are in need of a car seat. I think we will pick one up on the way to the house."
"Where will he sleep? Who will look after him during the day? Is he of school age?" I laugh at the speed of thoughts racing through my child's head.
"We can discuss all of that and more when Sookie and I return with the boy."
"I will wait for the three of you in my office. Pamela is entertaining the king and Andre. Her idea of entertainment involves blonde blood donors, striping and what is essentially an orgy in the living room."
"I would ask you get her to clean it up before we arrive with a small child. I would think that would be detrimental to his development."
"I am sure that will deter their activities."
"Of course see you soon Eric."
"And to you Master." He hangs up the phone.
