Chapter 25-

"Well let's get this started," Chris said as he glanced at the clock in the back of the room, "there's only an hour to go, so talk."

Heather frowned at Chris. "Okay, that's it. You don't talk to him like that, after he did you the favor of getting tacos for you. Well us too but we aren't the ones being rude to him. Now show him some respect!" she told him. "Or at least apologize to him." She added.

Alejandro smirked while Justin looked amused. The teens looked at the man standing in the middle of the room each one wondering what he'd say next. D.J. turned to Heather and mouthed out a 'thank you' she felt her cheeks heat up as she nodded before turning away.

'Was she blushing? It's impossible she never blushed before. The pretty Asian glanced at Gwen, who had a grin on her face.

"What?" she snapped at the goth. Gwen just let out a chuckle.

"You got it bad." She said.

"Oh, shut it, weird goth girl."

"Great comeback by the way." She muttered sarcastically rolling her eyes at her.

"Seriously…" she started to say but trailed off as she realized that Gwen turned to the front of the room, ignoring her.

"You know what," Chris finally spoke, "Heather's right. Sorry D.J."

"It's cool Chris." The gentle giant said.

"You're such a sweet and forgiving guy." Bridgette cooed.

"Yeah, you go too easy on people…personally I would have pulled-"

"Eva!" the male model interrupted, "Stop it…I really don't want to hear what you would have done, besides can't you see that Izzy was getting ready to take notes?" he told the fitness buff.

She leaned back in her chair and muttered some obscenities under her breath.

The red head shook her head as she put her pen down her shirt and threw her notepad across the room.

"You can't prove anything." She told Justin in a sing song manner.

Justin rolled his eyes. "Have I told you that you're crazy?"

Izzy flipped him the birdie. Chris shook his head.

"You kids are really something. And as for being rude to D.J., I had a reason for it. I was testing out a theory which I conclude to be true. Thank you Heather."

"What was it?" the raven haired teen asked.

"That would be for me to know and for you to never find out even though I think you know." He told her.

Heather's eyebrow furrowed in confusion, "What?"

"Anyway, Deej, you're up, whenever you're ready."

The gentle giant let out a laugh, he liked coming here, as different as they all were he considered them all his friends.

"Well, I'll try to make it short."

"No, you tell us everything you want to tell us without cutting out details." Heather told him firmly.

"Even if it takes a few extra minutes…" Sadie added.

"Or hours…" Eva smirked at Chris, who just shrugged.

"Take your time."

"Alright then," D.J. nodded, "well the day started of as any other day. It was a typical morning. We didn't have school that week because it was spring break. Also known as the week we'd spend with our dad, so momma was getting us kids ready that morning."

"Wait, did this happen while you were living in Jamaica or here in Canada?" Ezekiel asked.

The gentle giant smiled at the prairie boy.

"You remembered that?" he asked the teen. That was the first thing he shared with the group almost a year ago. Ezekiel nodded.

"Of course I remembered, eh."

"No this happened here in Canada, my mother moved us out here when I was 6, two years before my life changing tragedy."

"You're originally from Jamaica?" Alejandro asked.

"Yes," D.J. told the Latino, you're not from here?" he asked.

"No, I was born in Spain. I moved here as a child."

"Your father is a diplomat, right?"

"He is unfortunately."

"How is that unfortunate? You're rich." Heather said. Gwen let out a frustrated groan before turning to the queen bee.

"Leave him alone, will you? You don't know him so don't you go making assumptions and by the way being rich isn't everything." She told her.

Heather opened her mouth to retort but D.J. cut her off.

"Can we not argue anymore? I mean its not solving anything."

"If that's what you want." The goth sighed. Alejandro patted her leg.

"Whatever, I guess." Heather mumbled.

"Thank you," he smiled at them before continuing, "So the day went on as normal. Momma packed us our backpacks for the trip. And made us breakfast. Dad came to pick us up at around noon and he was late picking us up that day, and momma was on his case about it. She told him he was irresponsible and pretty incompetent."

"Ouch, that must have hurt."

"Probably, but he never remembered our birthdays, well he remembered Ethan's because he was his favorite."

"That's just sad." Eva mused.

"We should have taken that as a warning sign, especially since he always argued back, but he didn't that time he just nodded and took our bags. Clearly he knew he was up to something, especially since he always argued back. He wasn't one to keep quiet. We kissed momma bye and walked out with him, not knowing how close we came to never seeing her again. And on the drive to the dock he started asking us random questions."

"What type of questions?" Heather pressed.

"So are we really going on a fishing trip" Ethan, D.J's 9 year old, older brother asked.

William chuckled but kept his eyes on the road. "Of course we are son. Why would I lie to you? I told you guys last time that I'd be taking you fishing the next time I had you boys for the week."

'Maybe we didn't believe you because you always lie to us.' Jayden, the oldest one muttered. Their father frowned. "What was that? Speak up Jayden. I didn't quite catch what you said.

"Nothing."

"That's what I though." He told him, and then he asked D.J. "Are you excited about fishing?"

The gentle boy let out a sign. "Not really. I don't really like fishing."

Ethan rolled his eyes. "You two are so boring."

"Don't listen to him Deej. He's just being a brat." He said as he patted his head. "I'll play games with you while those two fish."

"Really?"

"Of course."

"Thanks."

Jayden gave him a smile. "No problem."

"So, what would you buys feel if I had full custody of you?" William asked after driving silently for about an hour.

"I seriously don't know…"Jayden answered.

"I would love too!" Ethan chirped excitedly.

'No surprise there.' The 13 year old teen muttered.

"What'd you say?" the 9 year old asked.

"Boys let not fight." Their father said, "What do you think about it D.J.?"

D.J. gave no response which their father took as a no. So his kids don't want him to have full custody? He'd be damned if he'd let her win. No, if he kids didn't want him willingly, then he'd do it by force. That would show his wife…no he wasn't going to lose the kids and he wasn't going to let her change the life insurance policy because of the divorce. He'd make sure he got the money. And he knew exactly how to do it too. William looked at his kids threw the window and smiled wickedly.

'Time for phase two.' He thought. He slowed the car down and stopped the car.

"I'll be right back boys; I have to make a phone call. Stay here and do not move from here." He said as opened the door and stepped outside. He walked a good distance away from the car, so that his kids wouldn't here the conversation. He pulled out his cell phone from his pocket and dialed his girlfriend's number, after the 5th ring. She picked up.

"What is it William?" she asked.

"Are you at the dock, May?"

"Yeah, I got here 20 minutes ago. Where are you?"

"I'll be there in 15 minutes or so."

"Hurry up."

"I will but I need to tell you to call your friend."

"Now?" she asked.

"Yes now, I just decided plan B of get rid of Melissa is a go."

His girlfriend let out a laugh. "Alright, I'll call him now. When do you want it done?"

"Tonight."

"Got it… I'll see you in a few."

"Yeah." He said as he pressed the end call button. Little did he know that his son was behind him and heard the entire conversation? Jayden's heart was thumping.

'What do I do?' he thought. Just then his father turned around.

"What are you doing out of the car? Didn't I tell you to stay in the car?"

"The teen took a breath before replying, "I have to use the bathroom."

"Oh, well then go ahead. I'll be in the car waiting." He said. "Did you hear anything?"

"No dad."

"Good." He said heading back to the car."

"Your brother is one smart boy."

"Yeah."

"So how did you find out?"

"On the boat. Jayden waited until May, Ethan and our father were fishing, we went downstairs were you would sleep on the boat if you were going to."

"Oh, it was one of those boats?"

D.J. nodded.

"How long was the boat rented for?"

"Well dad said for 4 hours and then we'd go to his house. But he changed his mind the last minute and rented it for the night."

"Look D.J., try not to be alone with dad or May."

"Why Jayden?"

"Trust me, I don't trust him okay. Please just do what I say."

"Okay."

"Good."

"Can we play cards now?"

"Sure."

The teen smiled at his brother, while trying to figure what to do next.

"Whoa."

So I listened to Jayden and steered cleared of dad as long as I could."

"Did you know what your brother or father was up to at the time?"

"Not at all. I did find out later that night."

"What happened?"

"He finally decided that he was going to grab dad's cell phone and call the police. Guess he figured it was better to be safe than sorry. But he needed my help."

"How did you help?"

"I was light on my feet so to speak, so I ws to slowly sneek into his room and take the cell."

"Where was Ethan when you guys did this?" Heather asked.

"Still asleep in his bunk."

"No surprise there."

"So I managed to get in grab the cell phone and get out without dad waking up. But we only took about 7 steps when the cell phone started ringing. He gestures for me to keep quiet. And I did."

"Who was it?"

"The hit man."

"Hello?" Jayden answered.

"Hey, William right?"

"Uh…yeah." The teen said, doing his best to imitate his fathers' voice.

"It's been done, man."

"What?"

"Man, you really must be tired. Anyway want me to burn down the house too?"

"No!" Jayden yelled into the phone before hitting the end call button.

"Okay, what's going on?" D.J. asked.

"Look, I don't want to tell you anything right now. So for now just do what I tell you to do, okay?"

"Sure."

"Good. Now I have to dial 911…" he trailed off when he noticed that his younger brother had a look of horror on his face. Turning his head slowly he saw his father standing there behind him, with a look of anger on his face.

'Crap.' Jayden thought to himself.

"Well what do you boys think your doing up? And with my cell phone no less?" he asked the twp boys.

They didn't respond.

"Answer me right now!" he demanded.

D.J. looked at his older brother and briefly thought how Ethan could still be asleep with all that was going on.

"I know what you're up to, dad. Why did you do it?" Jayden asked, bringing the smaller boy out of his thoughts. He really was confused now. What was going on?

"I don't know what you're talking about."

"Cut the crap. I know you tried to have mom killed. Now why would you do that?"

D.J.'s eyes widened. "That's not true, is it?" The teen turned to his brother and gave him a sad smile. "It is, I didn't think you'd go through with it, or that man to go through with it either."

"Its not true is it dad?" the younger boy asked.

William let out a chuckle. "I guess there's no point in denying it now is there?"

"Why?"

"You're an evil man." Jayden spat.

"Maybe so…and to answer your question, D.J., I did it for money."

"Seriously dad you did this for money?"

"Yes, see boys, your mother had a life insurance policy of about 100,000 dollars which h I was to get once she died. But she being the selfish bitch she is, was trying to take that away so I decided before she took it away that I would claim what was mine now." he explained.

"You are a crazy man." Jayden said.

"Well, I'm afraid that now," he said as he stepped closer to them with a smirk, "I'm going to have to get rid of you two. You know too much and I don't want to leave any witnesses."

"And that's when he started chasing us."

"I'm guessing he caught up with you."
Justin said.

"No kidding." Heather scoffed.

"He did eventually."

"Where was your fathers' girlfriend?"

"I'll get to it…but I can tell you that she wasn't on the boat during the chase."

"Well that's convenient." Eva muttered.

"Try not to judge until you, listen to the rest of it." Heather told her.

"I remember he tackled Jayden to the floor and started beating him. My father's cell phone fell out of his hands as he tried to block his face from the blows. The last thing I remembered my brother saying to me was to grab the cell phone and run."

"Did you?"

"Yeah, I picked it up and ran down, however as I went back into the room I ran right into Ethan and I fell and the phone slipped out of my hands."

"Damn."

"Ethan wasn't too happy, but he heard Jayden's screams and he asked what was going on. I didn't respond, seconds later we heard silence followed by footsteps," the gentle giant sighed, "I'm assuming that Jayden played possum so to speak."

"How do you figure that?"

"Because the cause of his death wasn't due to the injuries of my dad beating on him."

"What was it?"

"I'm getting to it. Funny thing is we didn't notice since it was dark that my father's girlfriend had docked the boat before she left."

"What?" Heather asked clearly confused.

"My dad showed up seconds later, I remembered that he looked over at Ethan and he said, 'it's a damn shame you woke up, now I have to get rid of you too'".

"What did he do next?"

"He picked me up and slung me over his shoulder and made Ethan follow him back to his room. He purposely made us walk by Jayden who was bleeding but lying still, but we could tell he was breathing but we didn't say anything. Once in the room he told us to sit on the floor our backs pressed behind each other."

"Why?" Heather asked.

"So he could duck tape us easier."

"Duck tape? Why didn't you two try to get away?"

"We were too scared too. We saw what he was capable of and we didn't want that to happen to us."

"Oh…"

"So he ducked taped Ethan's mouth. Then he concentrated on me. He taped my arms together as well as my feet. Once that was done he taped Ethan's arms and then slung me over his shoulder again and headed out. We got outside it was all to quiet and then without warning he said, 'bye D.J. sorry it had to end this way,' and then tossed me into the water and I couldn't swim and I could feel myself sinking. I actually started praying because I honestly believed that I was going to die."

"Oh my…wow. How did you get out of that?"

"Well remember I told you that his girlfriend wasn't there?"

"Yeah."

"Turns out, she was an under cover cop, investigating him for reasons until this day I do not know. They don't matter now anyway. Anyway her partner saw what was going on, him having seen what was going on and dove in to save me. I've never been so scarred, cold and alone in my life."

"What happened to your brothers?"

"Detective Gardner, which is her name went in to take him down and arrest him, he had already stabbed Ethan and tried to stab himself too. But it didn't work. She called the paramedics and they took us to the hospital. Momma was there waiting for us. I remember waking up and she was there hugging me. When I asked for Jayden, she told me that he was pretty banged up but he'll be fine. But when I asked about Ethan she wouldn't tell me."

"So he's the…"

"He died from blood loss. My dad stabbed him in the chest and slit his throat. I didn't hear it because I was drowning but he couldn't scream out anyway because his mouth was duct taped.

"Was your mother okay?"

"Yeah, turns out the suppose hit man was an undercover as well, but needless to say, that's pretty much why I'm afraid of the ocean, as well as being away from my momma."

"After an experience like that, who wouldn't?"

The brick house let out a chuckle. "Funny thing is that my mother raised my brothers and me to be forgiving, to be a man. But I can't find myself able to forgive him, its not like I can stop have ill intended feelings toward him."

"I know the feeling all to well." Gwen whispered. Heather looked over at the Goth to say something but decided against it. She knew she had a point.

"I agree with weird Goth girl."

"My mother forgave him, though. And she tells me I should do the same."

"Where is your father anyway?"

"Serving life in prison for the rest of his natural life."

"Glad to see some justice served up."

"Do you still see the Detective?"

"Regularly, she and momma became friends. They bonded after the experience."

"Why was he being investigated?"

"Apparently he knew and was working for a famous drug dealer/trafficker. Momma found out about it and although she didn't tell my father she knew about it, she told the police and Gardner was assigned to the case."

"So he got jail for drug related issues and murder?"

"Yeah."

"Good."

"I must say D.J. I'm proud of you. You finished the story completely and with out crying…I think I may have spoken to soon." He said as he noticed D.J. tear up.

"I'm okay…just need a minute." The gentle giant said.

"Do you need a tissue?" Heather offered.

"Yes please." He said. She got up from her seat and handed him a tissue.

"Thank you."

"Don't mention it."

Before Chris could say something about the scenc unflding in front of him, the door swung open and Blainenly rushed inside.
