Disclaimer: see chapter one, but I own nothing.

Author's Note: Yet again I apologize for such a long delay in between chapters life has completely taken over. If only I could get paid to write this story I would be ecstatic. But I hope that this chapter is completely worth the long wait. This chapter was insanely difficult to write because I wanted to include so much and with the length comes more time needed to get it just right. I hope that this long update will be perfect for all of you that have continued to support this story through the long delays in-between updates. I apologize in advance for any and all grammatical errors.

Heads up: This story contains mentions of Huaka'I Kula but it does not follow the exact way the episode went. I used the premise of the episode and used some events from the show but changed them just slightly.

In the weeks following Danny's injury, as they were calling them, were tense and super busy. Danny had spent a week at home fully recovering and spending time with the kids, while Steve and Five-0 were busier than ever. They had case after case and by the time a month had gone by Steve was amazed that he had actually made it through without much other than a few hours of sleep and massive amounts of caffeine. They were all burnt out and exhausted that none of them questioned when the governor called and told them to take a week off to recharge and recoup.

Steve had asked mom and dad to watch the kids for the night so he and Danny could have some time together. It had been months since Steve and Danny actually had a true date night and Steve was determined to reconnect with Danny. He had also been thinking about something that he really wanted to discuss with Danny before it drove him crazy.

Danny was surprised when Steve didn't turn towards his parents' house instead continuing towards their house. "Um babe, do you want to tell me why you didn't turn back there?" Steve shot Danny a quick smile as he turned down their street.

"We are having a date night Daniel. It has been far too long since we have gotten any time alone." Danny shook his head as he reached out and grabbed Steve's hand.

"Ya know babe, sometimes you have some pretty fantastic ideas." Steve chuckled and kissing Danny's knuckles as he pulled into the driveway and killed the engine. "What do you have planned for tonight?"

"Well Daniel, I was thinking we could start with a candlelight dinner out on the lanai consisting of all your favorites."

"And for desert?" Danny asking leering heavily at Steve, his eyes dark with lust making Steve flush.

"Well that Danno is a surprise." Steve suggestively replied leering just as openly at Danny. Danny tilted his head and motioned for Steve to lead the way. Steve chuckled walking ahead of Danny and into the house, putting some extra effort into his movements so all his muscles were on display for Danny.

Danny smiled as Steve quickly went around the table lighting the candles and pouring them both a glass of wine. "You do know that I'm pretty much a sure thing, right babe?" Steve smiled and shook his head as he motioned for Danny to join him at the table.

"Can't a guy just do something awesome for his husband? I can't even remember the last time you and I went out on a date so I decided that I was going to take one night to be with you." Danny studied Steve as he sat down across from him and internally sighed. There was something big on Steve's mind and Danny had a sinking suspicion that it was something that Danny might not like, but he would humor Steve. They had worked hard in order to have this relationship work as well as it does and Danny was not about to screw the pooch by not letting him speak his mind.

"Babe, you can always take a night to wine and dine me. I will never complain about that, trust me. But why don't you just come on out with whatever you need to talk to me about so that we can work it out and get on with the rest of the evening." Steve sighed and set his glass down cursing the fact that Danny knew him so well. He had wanted to work his way up to the topic but of course Danny just had to jump right to the point.

"Well Danno, since you will not let me go through the whole plan I spent most of the day working on, I guess I will just come right out with it. I was thinking, what with Grace getting older and Nathan finally settling in and feeling at home that maybe we could think about possibly adopting another kid. Now I know that you are more than happy with Grace and Nathan and Danny I love them more than life itself. But Nathan is much younger than Grace and I think that he would love to have a little brother or sister to play with. Plus I think that secretly you want to have a big family since you, yourself are from a big family." Danny took a long sip of his wine glass letting Steve's words sink in. Truthfully, he had been thinking about kids and how Nathan and Grace got along now, but they wouldn't always get along.

"Babe, I completely agree with you. We've gotten lucky so far that Grace and Nathan have gotten along so well for as long as they do. But they spend a lot of time with mom and dad as it is now so how would we add another kid to the mix? Look at the past couple of weeks we've been having babe. I want nothing more than to have a large brood of kids running around here, but I think we need to take a hard look at our jobs and realize just how unrealistic it would be to try and adopt another kid." Steve nodded having a feeling that Danny would feel that way. He wanted to argue, but he knew that arguing about it would only ruin the night that Steve had worked so hard to create perfectly.

"Yeah you're right Danno. We wouldn't be able to really give a kid our attention. It was just a crazy thought. More lasagna?" Steve asked trying to sound like he was okay despite how disappointed he felt.

"Babe, please don't shut me out. I know that you want to help every single kid that doesn't have parents and give them the home they don't have, and I'm not saying that we can't. I 'm just saying that right now I just don't think it will work, but I will agree to table this discussion until a later date. And who knows maybe we'll get lucky again and just have the right kid appear out of nowhere." Danny reached for Steve's hand a hopeful look on his face. "Plus I was thinking that the next time we had kids we would maybe put some of your gorgeous DNA to good use." Steve cocked his head a weird look on his face as he studied Danny's face.

"Just my gorgeous DNA? You have some pretty handsome DNA yourself detective."

"Yeah well I already passed my DNA on to a pretty amazing girl, so maybe it should be your turn."

"You've thought about us having a baby?"

"Well yeah after we adopted Nathan I thought that the next time we would go the surrogate route or however that works. I honestly thought that we would have a baby together at some point. But I knew how hard it would be with our jobs, but look at how great our kids have turned out. It's worth keeping on the back burner don't you think?" Steve smiled and squeezed Danny's hand.

"I think it's a great topic to keep on the back burner. As long as you know we don't forget about it. I really think that we would be able to raise a baby, do our jobs, and keep Nathan and Grace happy."

"But having a baby won't solve the problem of Nathan having a playmate once Grace starts to get into her teenage years." Danny suddenly thought the smile falling from his face; he always got sad when he thought about Grace growing up.

"Well Charlie is only two years younger than Nathan and Rachel would probably love if they started having play dates especially when the baby comes. It would give her a break of sorts, ya know?"

"There is the smart Navy SEAL I married; it is definitely worth discussing with Rachel at some point." Steve smiled brightly and leaned forward gently kissing him over the candle light. Danny smiled and pressed his lips harder against Steve's happy to finally have some alone time with him. "What do you say we take this upstairs so that I can get reacquainted with you?" Steve shook his head but stood up reaching to take Danny's plate for him.

Danny smirked in victory as he grabbed the bottle of wine and their glasses, they were going to make the most of their childless night. They had a lot of time to make up for and Danny was determined to make the most of it because he knew that the rest of their time off was going to be jammed back with doing activities with the kids.

Steve checked to make sure they had all their camping gear one more time while Nathan stood quietly off to the side, watching Steve with a very sad look on his face. Steve glanced over at him and sighed, he could tell that Nathan was not happy that they were going away for the weekend without him. "Hey Nate, come here." Nathan looked up at Steve for a moment not moving from his spot before Steve crouched down and held his arms open. Nathan immediately ran into Steve's arms, wrapping his arms tightly around his neck. "There you go. Are you excited for your trip to the big island with Poppa?" Nathan shrugged playing with the hem of Steve's polo shirt. "Poppa's beyond excited, he can't wait to watch the game with you. I wish Danno and I were coming along."

"Me too."

"I know it stinks buddy, but just think that by the time you get back you're going to get Danno and I all to yourself for a week. We're going to have so much fun. We're going to go boogey boarding, swimming, build sand castles, and I think Danno's even thinking about taking you to the batting cages so you can learn how to swing a bat. Does that sound like fun?" Nathan nodded smiling brightly at all the fun they were going to have.

"Hey there's my buddy, I've been looking all over for you." Danny called smiling brightly as he walked out of the house. "I was thinking you could take one of my lucky hats to the game with you, which one do you like the most?" Danny asked holding up two of his high school baseball hats. Nathan looked at both of them closely before picking the one that Danny loved the most. "Excellent choice." Danny exclaimed placing the hat on Nathan's head, making him giggle as it fell over his eyes. "And look, Daddy can wear the other one." Danny joked placing the other hat on Steve's head. Grace quickly snapped a picture with her phone as she walked out of the house carrying her duffel bag of clothes.

"Hey Gracie, you ready to go?" She nodded as she walked up to the Camaro holding out her bag for Danny to put in the trunk.

"Alright then let's get this show on the road shall we? I think Nonna and Poppa are waiting for us." Nathan wiggled down from Steve's arms and ran into the car pulling open the door with help from Grace who also helped buckled him in. "Do you think they're excited?" Danny joked handing over the keys smiling brightly at Steve who was beamed and bouncing slightly anxious to get on the road. "Alright Super SEAL let's get the show on the road before you jump out of your skin with excitement. I swear I can't tell who is more excited for this trip, you or Gracie." Danny muttered getting in and buckling his seatbelt while Steve jumped into the driver's seat, barely getting his seatbelt on before he was pulling out of the driveway. They were in for a weekend they would never forget.

"Now remember Steven, these girls are not SEAL recruits. They are little girls just looking for to get their tent making badge. So please promise me, you are not going to teach them any of your crazy SEAL moves."

"I promise Danno, I will not do anything even remotely survival training wise okay? I'm just here to help these girls earn some badges and make some s'mores." Danny eyed Steve as they unloaded the car and shrugged his shoulders, at least he could say he tried.

Steve's promise lasted until Grace asked him to show her how to throw his knife. Danny wasn't surprised to know that Grace knew Steve had his knife, she knew Steve would not have entered the jungle without it. Steve looked at Danny and merely shrugged his shoulders pulling the knife out of one of his many cargos and pulled it out as the girls gathered around the firepit they had built for their fire building badge. Danny looked over at Madeline, Grace's Aloha Girls leader and smiled apologetically. "I probably should have warned you this would happen." Danny spoke watching as the girls fawned over Steve as he taught them the proper knife throwing technique.

"I was surprised he made this long honestly, a man with his type of training must have been spinning his wheels most of the afternoon. Plus it gives them a chance to learn something and not worry about having to get a badge for it."

"Plus it gives you a break for a minute, would you like ice cold water?" Madeline smiled and nodded as Danny motioned for her to join him on his log reaching into the cooler and handing her an ice cold bottle of water. They watched the girls 'oh and ah' over Steve as he threw his knife over and over towards the log, detailing his every move for the girls. Danny wasn't surprised when one of the girls asked if she could throw the knife and Danny watched, ready to jump in, as Steve crouched down to Hilary's level and smiled brightly at her.

"How about you each can have one try, but I'm going to stand right behind you and help you so you don't hurt yourself." She looked back towards the other girls silently asking what they thought about Steve's offer when they all began furiously nodding their heads with large smiles on their faces. "Okay now one at a time." Danny watched ready to jump in as each girl took turns throwing the knife, each squealing in delight when they hit the tree a few feet in front of them. Steve treated each of the girls as if they were Grace asking to do it. Danny only relaxed once each girl had satisfied their need to be knife throwing machines like Steve. Things seemed to quiet down as the girls helped make dinner of hotdogs and chips, the girls were beginning to fade fast and Danny knew it was only a matter of time until they were all tucked in safe and sound into their tents. Danny was in the middle of helping the girls put marshmellows on their sticks when he heard Grace's frantic voice.

"Danno! Daddy! I can't find Lucy." Steve was up much faster than Danny and over to Grace in a heartbeat.

"What do you mean you can't find Lucy?" Steve asked bending down so he was level with Grace.

"She hasn't come back from going to the bathroom."

"When did she leave?" Madeline asked trying her best not to scare the other girls.

"Right after we cleaned up from dinner and everyone went to change into their pajamas." Steve nodded sharing a glance with Madeline.

"It's okay Gracie, do you know which direction Lucy went off in?" Grace nodded pointing just over Steve's shoulder. "That's great baby. Don't you worry I will find Lucy, why don't you go sit with Danno." Grace didn't look convinced, torn between wanting to go with Steve to find Lucy and wanting to be comforted by her father. "Go on Grace, I promise I will find Lucy." Steve smiled as Danny approached them.

"Come here Monkey, let's go roast some marshmallows, let Super SEAL do his thing." Grace looked up at her father and shook her head, immediately grabbing Danny's hand.

"Are you sure you can find her?" Madeline nervously asked once Grace and Danny were out of ear shot.

"I'm 100% positive, I used to do this kind of thing in much worse scenarios than this. I am a highly trained SEAL after all. Most likely she just got a little turned around, if I'm not back in 20 minutes send Danny in after me. He'll know what to do." Madeline nodded waiting until Steve was already in the forest before turning back towards the girls.

Steve made his way through the trees calling Lucy's name as he got deeper and deeper into the forest. He was beginning to worry as he got further and further into the forest until he saw Lucy sitting on a log a few feet in front of him. "Hey Lucy." Lucy quickly stood up and ran towards Steve. "It's okay, did you get lost?"

"Yeah I couldn't remember which way camp was." She quietly murmured her eyes fixated on the leaves beneath her shoes. She had gotten her navigating badge earlier and should've known how to figure out how to get back.

"Hey it's okay, I used to get so lost in this forest when I was a kid. These trees all look the same and it can be pretty tough, but you were smart to just sit and wait."

"Really?"

"Yes, it's better to sit and wait when you're lost than try to figure out how to get back on your own. Plus I guarantee that if you had a compass you would've been able to find your way back right?"

"Yeah."

"Next time just make sure you take a buddy with you okay?" She nodded allowing Steve to take her hand and lead them back to the camp site. They had been walking for about five minutes when Steve heard the telltale sounds of someone walking towards them. He immediately shifted Lucy so that she was behind him and reached for his gun pointing it where he knew the mysterious person was going to appear.

Sure enough moments later, a man appears through the trees limping and cursing. He looks up and stutters his steps when he notices Steve pointing a gun at him. "Whoa."

"Who are you?" Steve asked slipping into high protective mode, making sure that Lucy was behind him in case things went south.

"I'm Ron, my plane went down and I'm injured as if you can't already tell that. I'm just trying to find my way out of here so I can get help."

"I can help you, but first do you have any weapons on you? I will search you if I need to."

"No, no weapons. But you can search me if it will make you feel better." Steve thought about it for mere seconds before he quickly patted Ron down satisfied that he was in fact free of weapons. Steve also took a glance at Ron's leg and noticed the gash that seemed to be bleeding a lot.

"I can stitch up your leg for you and then in the morning I'll escort you to a hospital."

"Thanks man, I really appreciate it."

"Just walk ahead of me so I can catch you if you fall." Ron nodded and moved in front of Steve, who grabbed Lucy's hand as they walked back towards camp.

Danny looked up when he heard the rustling of leaves and got worried when he saw some random guy in front of Steve. He barely relaxed when Steve and Lucy appeared moments later and waited for Steve to explain what the hell was going on. Steve shook his head at Danny hoping Danny got that he didn't have a good feeling about this guy.

"Why don't you go join the girls Lucy?" Steve spoke softly as he motioned for Ron to lean back against the Camaro's hood so that he could stitch up his leg. Lucy nodded and walked over to Madeline telling her troop leader what had happened in the woods and promising not to do anything like it again. Madeline and Danny watched Steve stitch up the stranger both uneasy about the recent turn of events. For Danny he could tell from Steve's body language alone that Steve wasn't feeling too confident about the stranger he had found in the woods.

Once Steve was done stitching up the cut on Ron's leg, he handed him some aspirin and motioned for him to take Steve and Danny's tent to get some rest. Steve motioned for Madeline and Danny over towards him once Ron was settled in the tent.

"His name is Ron, we stumbled upon him while we were walking back. He claims to have been injured in a plane crash, but there seems to be something off about the guy. I told him he could crash here for the night after I stitched him up and then I would escort him to the hospital tomorrow morning."

"I don't feel comfortable with the girls being so close to him Steve." Steve nodded and reached out squeezing Madeline's shoulder. He understood where she was coming from, he didn't feel good about it either.

"I know that's why I'm going to stand guard of sorts tonight. I won't let anything happen to the girls or you. I'm going to call Chin and give him a heads up, so he can meet us up here tomorrow morning with an HPD officer, who can escort Ron to the hospital. I won't let this ruin the girls' weekend. Danny you locked your gun in the truck right?"

"Yes and I'm staying up with you too. I'll be able to help keep you occupied and up, plus I make way better campfire coffee than you do."

"Alright, we'll let the girls finish their s'mores and then they should probably hit the hay. We've got a long day ahead of us." Madeline and Danny nodded turning towards the girls who were sitting unaware by the fire.

It took another hour for the girls to finally begin to feel tired and to start heading to bed. Steve and Danny each hugged Gracie before she went off to her tent with Lucy. They settled back against the log watching the fire crackle in front of them.

"Did Chin find anything on our friend?"

"No, he didn't find anything about the plane crash either. But he said that he would be up here before dawn so that we could get him out of here before the girls get up. The last thing I want to do is ruin this trip for Gracie."

"Babe, you aren't ruining this trip for her. She gets that our jobs are crazy and knows that sometimes things happen. I wish they didn't, but sometimes we can't shelter her from the crazy people in this world."

"Yeah but still Danny, we shouldn't have to be watching for some guy to pull something while our daughter sleeps feet away from him."

"You're right, but ya know what? I feel much better knowing that we're here to watch over her. There's nobody that can protect her better than us." Steve nodded lifting his arm to wrap around Danny's shoulder.

"You should get some shut eye Danno; tomorrow will be easier if we get some shut eye. I'll wake you in a few hours for your shift." Danny wanted to protest but he was tired after their full day of activities. "I promise I'll wake you up if I need you okay?" Danny nodded and rested his head against Steve's shoulder wrapping his arm tightly around Steve's waist. Steve kissed the top of Danny's head running his fingers through the soft locks watching their tent for any movements.

True to his world Steve woke Danny exactly four hours later. Danny made sure that Steve was asleep before he made coffee keeping his eyes trained on the tent. He hoped that this guy didn't try anything because if he ruined Grace's weekend or traumatized her in any way he would regret the day he ever happened upon Steve.

Danny lasted about an hour before he became completely bored out of his mind. He almost hoped that the guy tried something that he would have something to do but the tent remained silent and Danny fell back against the log holding his steaming mug of coffee tightly in his hand. Danny was about to fall asleep he was bored when he heard Chin's motorcycle pull up next to the Camaro.

"Hey Chin." Danny softly called standing and stretching his stiff muscles. "Find anything about our friend here?"

"No but I didn't finally find out about the plane crash. I sent Kono down there to take a look and an HPD officer will be joining us momentarily considering there was no Ron on the flight plan they submitted."

"What was on the flight plan?"

"It was a cargo plane bringing some diamonds and other pieces of jewelry to some of the big jewelers on the island. They are all clean companies that have no ties to any illegal activity so I'm thinking that maybe Ron and the pilot targeted these companies for that very reason. The cargo on the ship is worth millions on the black market."

"I don't think Ron was very happy when the plane crashed. I'll go wake sleeping beauty and our friend to get him out of here before the girls wake up." Danny went to wake Steve leaving Chin to watch the tent. Steve sat up immediately and nodded his head at Chin as he rubbed the sleep from his eyes.

"Good morning, how about we get this guy out of here?" Steve nodded and went to their tent shaking it until he heard Ron sit up and mutter curses under his breath.

"Let's go buddy, I'm going to check your wound and then we're going to get you to the hospital." Ron took his sweet time getting out of the tent and frowned as pain coursed through him with each step he took.

While Steve was checking his stitches the girls began waking up and coming out of their tents one by one. Steve turned his head for just a moment giving Ron the chance to kick Steve knocking him back and his gun falling from his hand. Quickly Ron picked up the gun and grabbed Steve, using him as a shield as Danny and Chin turned pointing their guns at him. "Chin get the girls out of here!" Steve shouted his eyes locked on Danny's as Ron pressed the gun harder into Steve's temple.

"Move an inch and I'll shoot!" Ron screamed grabbing Steve tighter. Steve relaxed his body as much as Ron moved further back.

"Ron you really don't want to do this, we can work this out. You really need medical attention."

"Shut up!" Ron yelled moving to point the gun at Danny. "I am getting out of here and I'm going to get my diamonds. You are not going to stop me!" Danny nodded deciding that maybe if he lowered his gun Ron wouldn't press the barrel of Steve's so hard into his skin.

"You're right, you should be able to walk away from this. The last thing I want is bullets to start flying with the girls so close. I'm going to put my gun down alright? This way we can just talk and you can tell me what you want, okay?" Danny slowly lowered his weapon keeping his hands held high in the air. "There. Now why don't you tell me what you want?"

"Stop trying to talk me down man! I know how you guys operate, I'm not stupid." Steve tried moving, seeing how much room he had when Ron put more pressure on his throat making Steve wince. "Stop moving or I will shoot you!"

"Daddy!" Grace screamed seeing Steve wince and lunging towards him.

"Gracie no!" Steve managed to scream but it was too late she was trying to run to Steve. Danny reached out and tried to grab her when the gun went off hitting in the arm. Chin stood there helplessly his gun trained on Ron but with Steve's larger body mass blocking him he couldn't get a shot off.

Ron used the distraction of Danny falling to the ground to grab Lucy who had run to pull Grace back towards where the girls were huddled together and pushing Steve out in front of him throwing Lucy at him. Steve barely caught her before she hit the ground and pulled her towards him.

"It's okay Lucy; he won't hurt us if we listen to him. I promise we're going to get through this." Steve tried to comfort Lucy as Ron wrangled the girls, Madeline, Danny, and Chin into the shed and locking the door.

"Let's go Navy SEAL you are going to help me retrieve my money and if you don't I'll shoot the girl."

"I'll do whatever you want; you don't need to hurt Lucy."

"Just shut up and walk before I shoot you too." Ron pushed Steve's back with the warm gun pushing them into the trees.

Danny sat on the bench holding his arm swearing up a storm under his breath. Grace sat next to him silently crying looking at the door. "It's okay Monkey, daddy will be fine. He won't let anything happen to Lucy."

"It's all my fault!" She wailed finally looking at Danny with tears in her eyes.

"No Gracie it's not. You were just trying to protect daddy you didn't know that he was going to shoot me. I don't blame you for anything that happened, you hear me? You can't fight your instincts okay?"

"Let me look at that." Madeline broke in smiling softly at Danny giving Grace a chance to wipe her tears. "I work in the ER so I know how to treat gunshot wounds." Danny nodded and moved his hand so that Madeline could patch him up.

"Any ideas on how we can get out of here?" Danny asked Chin needed a distraction from the pain. Chin looked up from the floor and nodded.

"We can pull up part of the floor and crawl out under the shed to open the front door. We just need someone small enough to fit under there."

"I'll do it." Grace said standing off to Danny's side quietly watching her Uncle Chin and Danno for their reaction.

"Gracie, I can't ask you to do that."

"I want to, Lucy's my friend Danno and the quicker we get out of here the faster we can find them."

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah I can do it." Danny nodded and kissed her forehead before Chin led her over to the hole in the floor.

"Alright Gracie, once you get down there just shimmy to the right where you see light and open the front door. If anything happens just yell and I'll get you out okay?"

"Got it Uncle Chin." She replied taking the offered flashlight and jumping into the hole. Danny watched with bated breath as she disappeared from view and didn't breathe until she opened the door and beamed at Danny.

"Good job Gracie!" Chin exclaimed quickly hugging her as he ushered the other girls out. Danny wasn't surprised to see the tires on the van deflated and knew without looking that the Camaro wouldn't work either. "He took the spark plugs out of the Camaro and slashed my tires while also managing to kill both our phones." Danny shook his head still clutching his injured arm to his side.

"Yeah but what he probably didn't check for was my satellite phone that's locked in the trunk." Danny replied using his good hand to pull the phone out of the lock box. Chin smiled and pulled the phone from Danny immediately calling Kono and HPD.

Steve looked around the forest and sighed as he noticed them getting deeper and deeper into the forest. He hoped that Ron knew where he was going because Steve was beginning to believe that they weren't going to make it out alive. Steve kept glancing down at Lucy to make sure that she was unaware of his inner thoughts when Ron pushed both of them because they weren't walking fast enough. Steve grabbed Lucy before she tripped over a branch and pulled her against his leg. "Look do whatever you want to me but do not touch her. She's innocent so please don't touch her."

"She better walk faster then." Steve sighed and clenched his fists suppressing the urge to hit him.

"Hey Lucy, how are you holding up?"

"I'm getting tired." She whispered glancing back towards Ron hoping he didn't push her again.

"Yeah I know, why don't I carry you so you can give your legs a break?" She thought about it for mere seconds before nodding allowing Steve to effortlessly (and without breaking stride) pull her up and into his arms. "There we go, you're doing great Lucy. You're are so brave, you're a shoe in to get your bravery badge." Lucy smiled softly resting her head on Steve's shoulder and he couldn't blame the young girl for being tired, by his estimates they had walked well over two miles and had been walking for almost three hours. "That's right try and rest your eyes, I promise Danny's going to come get us soon I promise." Lucy nodded softly wrapping her arms even tighter around his neck.

As they walked Steve kept his eye out for anything that could help them get away from Ron. He had to curtail his plans so that Lucy walked away unscathed, he would gladly take any beating or even bullets as long as Lucy didn't get hurt or have to see Ron hurt him. The last thing Steve wanted was for Lucy to be completely scarred for life more so than she already was.

He had long ago seen and understood what Danny was always bitching at him for when they first became partners, but now being in this situation Steve got Danny's hesitation to have more kids. They couldn't even take a trip with Grace's Aloha Girls troop without a bad guy finding them. How on earth could they bring more children into their family when they were constantly finding themselves in danger? Steve sighed and hugged Lucy as they went over some fallen logs.

Steve kept quietly talking to Lucy as they walked trying to keep her as calm as possible. He could sense that they were getting closer to wherever Ron wanted to be because he had them slow down. Steve looked at Lucy and began to whisper what he wanted her to do as soon as they stopped walking. She was nervous to leave him alone with Ron, but Steve just told her to run as fast as possible.

"Alright this is the place that the bag landed. Put the brat down and get to work, if you find the bag I might let her go before I kill you." Steve nodded swallowing to show that he was nervous. He looked at Lucy as he began to let her down and nodded his head motioning for her to run back in the direction they had come. She nodded and squeezing his hand as he set her down on the ground. Ron watched Steve stand slowly and turn towards him distracting him from seeing Lucy slip away and begin running through the forest a compass clasped tightly in her hands.

Steve took his good old sweet time trying to find the bag using the time to distract Ron from seeing that Lucy was gone. He had just gotten his hand on the bag when Ron finally caught on. "Hey where'd the brat go?" He screamed pointing the gun at Steve's chest making Steve freeze. Steve momentarily saw his life flash before his eyes as Ron cocked the gun his finger adjusting to shoot Steve. Steve closed his eyes as he heard the gun fire and sent a quiet 'I love you' into the air.

"Steve! Are you okay?" Steve took a deep breath and patted down his body feeling for the gunshot wound. "Babe can you open your eyes?" Steve opened his eyes and looked up at Danny who was frantically searching him for any type of wound.

"Danny? Am I alive?"

"Yeah good job giving Lucy your compass and telling her where to go she met Chin and I about a mile away and showed us where to go. He was about to fire when I pulled the trigger giving him a nice through and through in the shoulder. He's going away for a long time especially with the added child endangerment charge he picked up for taking Lucy. You would've been better off just taking my husband you asshole!" Danny yelled looking back at Ron who was clutching his shoulder and moaning in pain. "That was for shooting me in front of my daughter, but you're lucky you shoot me and not her. You're also lucky that I want you to rot in prison because I could have easily killed you." Danny spoke quietly making sure to put pressure on Ron's bleeding shoulder.

"Danny don't, I'm fine and Lucy's fine. Speaking of Lucy where is she?"

"Chin took her to meet her mom, but she wanted to see you." Steve nodded and stood up leaving the EMTs to take care of Ron as an HPD officer watched over them. Danny held onto Steve as they made their way towards the road where Chin was waiting for them with Lucy and Grace.

"Mr. Steve!" Lucy exclaimed rushing towards him hugging his legs tightly. "I just wanted to say thank you for saving me. I was really scared but I'm glad that you were there with me."

"Thank you for being so brave today Lucy, you made it so much easier. I'm happy that I was there to protect you." Steve replied crouching down to hug the little girl. "Go on with your mom Lucy, I'm fine now." Lucy smiled and hugged Steve one more time before running back to her mom who looked at Steve with a very grateful look. Steve only nodded his head knowing exactly how relieved she felt at having Lucy back safely. Steve then looked at Grace who was standing a few feet away from them watching nervously.

"She thinks you're going to be mad for getting me shot." Steve looked at Danny with a shocked look on her face. "I know, I know. You should tell her that." Steve nodded and made his way over towards Grace.

"I'm sorry." She whispered once Steve was in front of her.

"Grace baby, look at me." Steve waited until Grace was looking at him before he continued. "You have nothing to be sorry for, neither Danno nor I are mad at you for what happened today. You only did what you felt you needed to do to protect me and baby I could never be mad at you for wanting to protect me. I'm so happy that you were there to help get everyone out of the shed. You were such a trooper today and I could not be more proud of you. Now can I have a hug?" Grace nodded furiously and jumped into Steve's arms holding onto him tightly.

"I'm so happy you're okay and thank you for looking out for Lucy."

"That's my job baby, I'm supposed to protect people." Danny smiled and wrapped his arms around both of them.

"You guys should be out of here, Deb found out about today and has been calling both Kono and I all morning to get updates. The reports can wait until tomorrow you should really be with your family right now."

"Both of you are to report to mom's house with your significant others as soon as you feel comfortable leaving HPD in charge, we need to celebrate and be together today." Chin nodded clapping both of them on the back as Steve led them over to the Camaro.

They quietly got into the car and drove away from the chaos of squad cars. Grace fell asleep minutes into the drive giving Steve and Danny some time to talk things over.

"Babe, I was so scared when he led you away today. I thought for sure I would never see you again and it made me do some serious thinking. I don't want to wait to have more kids with you, there is no time like the present."

"That's great Danny, I completely agree with you. Today made me realize that yeah we have dangerous jobs, but there is no time like right now to expand our family. I don't care if we adopt or have a baby I just want to give you the big family you've always wanted." Danny nodded and grabbed Steve's hand happy that he still could grab Steve's hand.

"Then it's settled we'll call Chris in the morning to see what our options are." Steve nodded as he pulled onto the highway a large smile spread across his face. Today had been one hell of a day and Steve was happy that he was able to come home to his family. He couldn't wait to see what this next chapter brought them.
