Hello, my lovelies!
Sorry that I'm a week late with this update. Emily had food poisoning last week and I didn't really have time to update or write. For missing last week, I am doing a double update this week. Chapter 26 is nearly finished so expect it out on Friday.
I also want to say thank you to all of you for taking the time to sit down and read True Colors. It really means a lot to me that you guys love this story as much as I do. Now enjoy :) I hope I don't disappoint.
Chapter Twenty-Five
"Where you goin'?" Edward grumbles.
I glance over my shoulder at the beautiful man. His arm is draped over the side of the bed where I had been and he wears a pout on his beautiful lips. He barely has his eyes open but even in the dark, I knew he was staring at me.
"Go back to sleep," I tell him.
My words to him have him stretching and sitting up. He glances at the clock before looking back at me.
"Why are you awake at three in the morning?"
"Couldn't sleep," I explain. "I was trying not to wake you."
"Are you alright?"
"Just not use to being without Addie at night. This is when she wakes up for a feeding."
"We can call Alice," he suggests. I try to tell him that we don't have to but he's already reaching for his cell phone. He hands it to me before climbing out of bed. "I'm going to go use the restroom and give you time to talk." He's walking away before I can even respond. Even in just his night pants, that man looks good.
Focus, Bella.
Call Alice.
Yeah. Alice.
I glance down at the phone and dial his sister's number. It doesn't take long for her to answer.
"Hey," I tell her. "It's just me."
"Bella? Hey! Are you alirght?"
"Fine. I knew you would be up with her so I thought I'd call. Is she behaving?"
"You know you don't have to worry," Alice reassures me. "She's been nothing but an angel. My mom actually has her right now."
"So what did you guys do all evening?"
"We did a bit of shopping." I groan. Why does that not surprise me? "And we decided to wing it and went and saw a movie with her."
"Alice! She's only five months!"
"She was great. You barely knew that there was a baby there."
"Barely?"
"Well within the last half hour she discovered that there were people sitting behind us. She started babbling to them."
"What'd you see?"
"Alvin and the Chipmunks. She loved it, Bell."
"I'm glad."
"Are you alright?"
"Just missing her, y'know? I know we both needed this," I explain to her. "If I want to move forward, I need to stay here. I'm just not used to this."
"It's all a part of being in a relationship, Bella," Alice tries to reassure me. "There are going to be overnight stays. Some nights you'll even take her with you and some nights you won't. Don't beat yourself up over being with Edward, sweetheart."
"Thanks, Al," I say. I glance up just as Edward walks back into the bedroom. He sits beside me and takes my hand in his. "I have to go."
"How about we drive to Seattle tomorrow afternoon when you're finished with Edward?" she asks. This is why I love my best friend. She knows just what I need when half of the time I don't even know myself. "We'll take Addie with us. Maybe Angela will want to go too."
"Sounds good. Good night, Alice."
"Good night."
I hang up and turn to face Edward. He's staring at me like I'm the only one in the world. Even in the darkness of his bedroom, I can see his emerald green eyes shining back at me.
"Everything okay?" he asks.
He knows that it's hard for me to be away from my baby and I love him even more for it but I know that he's glad that I'm here with him. In his home. In his bed.
Edward makes me feel like I belong here.
"Everything's fine," I reply. "Alice wants to go down to Seattle after I leave here tomorrow."
I watch his face fall and my heart breaks for him. It's obvious that he was hoping that I would spend the day with him tomorrow.
"I can cancel," I offer. I would do anything to keep this beautiful man smiling. "I'm sure your sister would understand."
He shakes his head before reaching up and tucking a strand of hair behind my ear. I close my eyes and hum at his touch. I can't get over how it feels to be with him without worrying about interruptions from James.
"Don't cancel. I've been monopolizing a lot of your time."
"But I just got you back."
"I'm not going anywhere."
"I know."
"How about you let me take you out on a proper date next week?" Edward asks. "You could stay the night."
"What about Addie?"
"How about the two of us have a nice romantic dinner and then we'll go get her. Is that okay?"
I smile before pressing my lips against Edward's in a sweet kiss. "Thank you," she whispers.
"I'd do anything to make you happy, love."
The smell of bacon had me wandering out towards Edward's kitchen around eight.
The sight of Edward in nothing but his boxers has me frozen in my spot, staring at him like he is something to eat.
His back is turned to me as he works in the kitchen, flipping pancakes and squeezing the juice from some oranges. The muscles in his back ripple as he moves. I think about turning around and running back down the hallway towards his bedroom before he catches me ogling.
Just as I make the decision to turn around and retreat, he spoke.
"I was going to bring you breakfast in bed."
I glance over my shoulder just in time to see him glance up from my backside.
Doctor Cullen was totally checking me out!
"See something you like, Doc?" I tease, fully facing him now. I stay in my spot half way to the kitchen while he remains in his spot by the stove.
"I don't know," he says. "Why don't you come over here so that I can have a better look?"
Eying him warily, I approached him. I wasn't used to this shameless flirting. The harmless teasing that always took place in my life usually had me or Emmett - and sometimes both of us - drenched head to toe in water.
As soon as I was in front of him, Edward quickly wrapped his arms around my waist and hoisted me up on to the counter, eliciting a squeal from me. He forced his body between my legs as his hands trailed up and down my thighs.
"Morning," I managed to sigh out.
"Morning," he replies before capturing my lips with his.
It starts off soft at first before the passion and desire we have for the other consumes us. His tongue brushes against my bottom lip and I open for him. I sigh into the kiss and wrap my arms around his neck in an effort to draw him closer to me.
I think about how much I want this man and even though we should take this slow, I know that it will be impossible for us to do so. I would let him take me right now if he wanted.
My mind quickly wonders to thoughts of him taking me in this very spot before thinking of being bent over his couch.
Edward Cullen stirred things in me that I didn't even know existed.
The feel of his lips traveling down my neck had me moaning and panting. I could feel his lips turn up into a grin.
"Bella…"
"Yeah?"
"I know we should stop but I don't want to."
"Then don't."
He looks up from the crook of my neck and I stare back at him. I know the look on my face says it all because before I know it, he's once again capturing my lips with his. The kiss is passionate and desperate and I know that this is it. He pulls his jersey off and over my head, throwing it down to the floor. My entire body turns bright red as he stares at me.
I have never felt so exposed before.
"So beautiful." He glances down at my breasts and his hand runs over them gently. When a finger runs over a nipple, a deep moan sounded from my lips. Before I know it, another moan escapes me as Edward wraps his mouth around it. His fingers begin to trail down my sides and are at the top of my panties when a horn honks from outside.
He pulls away and I groan at the loss of contact.
"I am so going to kill your sister," I tell him. I glance at the clock on the wall. It's ten am. How long had we been making out and fooling around? He helps me down off the counter and I quickly grab his shirt off the floor. The horn honks again and he starts laughing. "Quit laughing! You're the reason why I'm running late."
He gives me a stupid cheeky grin and kisses me on the cheek. "I don't regret it at all."
I roll my eyes and wave his shirt in his face. "Just for that I'm keeping this."
"Good," he replies. "It looks better on you anyway."
I shake my head and rush down the hall back to his bedroom in a hurry to look presentable for Alice. I find my pants from last night and hurriedly pull them on, only tripping and falling once. I throw my bra on before throwing his jersey back on. A quick glance in the mirror tells me that there's really no need to apply any make up as my mascara and eye shadow still looks pretty good from last night. My hair on the other hand is an absolute mess. I pull the hair tie off my wrist and quickly throw it up into an Alice worthy bun.
The horn honks again.
Hasn't she ever heard about coming to the door?
"Bell-aaaaaa!" I hear her scream from outside.
"Hold your horses," I grumble to myself.
I grab my flats and slip them on as I head towards the front door. Edward's standing there, still wearing that stupid grin. He leans down to kiss me goodbye but I dodge out of his way, giving him a cheeky smile of my own.
"Nope. Already late," I tell him as I open the door. Alice honks the horn. Again. "I'll call you later."
I close the door behind me and rush out to Alice, ready for our afternoon in Seattle.
BPOV
Seattle, WA
Late afternoon
"So?"
Alice's voice has me looking up from the book that I was holding. The grin that she's wearing can put the Cheshire cat to shame.
"What?" It comes out snarkier that I intended it to but Alice only throws her head back and laughs. When did she manage to become unhinged?
""Are you going to tell us what went on at McDreamy's last night?" Angela asks as she plops herself in the empty seat beside Alice. She's pulling out Addie's bottle and formula but I know that she's all ears. She catches our stares and stops what she's doing. "What? Look, Jake is terrified of doing anything with me so I'm going to have to live vicariously through the two of you, alright?" Alice and I continue to stare at her like she's lost her damn mind. "Why are you guys staring at me like that? …. Seriously! Stop!"
Now it's my turn to laugh. "Do tell."
Alice nods, taking the bottle from Angela and offering it to Addie once it's made. She greedily sucks at it and her eyes begin to droop.
"He doesn't want to scar the baby."
"What?" I laugh.
"He thinks the baby can see."
"The baby can't see that."
"I know that but he's crazy!" she chuckles. "And he doesn't let me do much of anything. I'm six months pregnant! Not an invalid!"
This has all of us laughing because we all know how Jake is. Even with me on the east coast and not seeing each other for a couple years, he called constantly to remind me to take my prenatal vitamins. He was worse than Charlie and Emmett.
He had this dad thing down.
"Did you find out what you're having?" Alice asks after she calms down. "You were on the fence about that right?"
Angela places her hands over her bump and smiles. "We decided to wait," she tells us. "But we have the names picked."
"Then spill, girl!" I say.
Alice narrows her eyes at me and I stick my tongue out at her. She's dying to question me about my night with Edward and I'm stalling.
Sue me.
"William Ephraim or Vanessa Jane."
"Billy's going to be over the moon, Ange."
I always loved the idea of using family names but then when Addie came along, I had chickened out. I wasn't very fond of Helen or Renee either.
And Marie was just too common.
"Okay! Enough about me!" Angela's voice brings me out of my thoughts. She and Alice are now both staring at me, waiting for me to throw them a bone. Addie's fast asleep in her car seat. "I want to hear about Bella and Edward."
"That's a great idea, Ange!" Alice cries out. "Come on, Bells!"
Poor girls. Here they were hoping for some juicy details and I didn't have them. They were about to be disappointed. I almost felt sorry for them.
"There really isn't much to tell you," I tell them. "We fought then we talked and then we slept. He made breakfast and now I'm here."
"That's it?" Alice frowns. I have to bite the inside of my cheek to keep myself from laughing at her. She looks so heartbroken. "No sexing?"
"Sorry, Al," I apologize. "No sexing."
Ha! I definitely wasn't going to mention the fondling that took place back in his kitchen.
"Ugh! I took Addie so you could screw like crazy! Not be all broody and shit."
"Well we did get a lot of things finally cleared up and we slept in the same bed."
"Boring."
"There was some making out before you showed up." Alice's eyes slowly begin to regain some of their light so I know what to do to make her happy again. I may regret it later but seeing her excited will be worth the torture I know that I'm going to endure. "There's something else."
"Oh yeah?"
"Yep. See, he may have mentioned something about taking me out on a date and then us staying the night with him."
"Us?" She's vibrating in her seat now.
"Yeah," I gesture to my sleeping baby. "Us."
"Oh no!" Alice clicks her tongue in disapproval. "That just won't do, Bella! If the grandparents Swan won't watch her for the night then she can spend more time with Auntie Alice."
"All night."
"On one condition."
"Do I want to know?"
"You and Edward must relieve some of that sexual tension."
"Fine."
"Good! Now, do you have something to wear?" My silence has Alice widening her eyes. "Oh. Em. Gee. Bella!" She stands abruptly and begins gathering our trash off the table. "Let's go, ladies! We have some major shopping to do!"
