A/N I am a terrible horrible person. I feel awful about the wait on the chapter. You may stab me with a pitchfork if you wish. Anyone see Divergent? I did. It was awesome. Btw shout out to my friend badwolf4242564 and her amXizang TenRose poems! Check 'em out!
The Doctor rushed into the TARDIS infirmary, followed closely by Rose, Jackie, Jack, and Martha. He saw Hope, sitting up and looking around. Only she looked... a little different. Instead of his brown hair color, it was a very dark brown, almost black, with just a hint of red. Her face looked older, like Keira's, only with an innocence only children possess. And her eyes. They were gold.
"Daddy?" she asked. Her hand went to her mouth. "Daddy what happened?" Her hand felt around her face, and the went through her long hair. "My hair is a different color!" The sheer look of surprise on her face was enough to make everyone laugh. "It's a different color!"
"Hey it looks great that color!" Martha said, moving closer to her.
"Don't worry," the Doctor said, "You just sort of regenerated. Your DNA changed so now you are full Time Lord. There may be a few differences, including the change of hair color."
"Oi! She's not gonna grow an extra leg or somethin' is she?" Jackie said, her voice slowly raising like the suspense when a bomb is about to go off. Hope suddenly looked very scared.
"No," he replied like it was obvious. "She'll mostly be the same. Except for boosted intelligence, the difference in age- Oh! And improved reflexes, and-"
"Alright Doctor! We get the point! Now could ya leave me and her to talk for a little while?" Rose asked, shoving her way to the front of the group.
"I'll stay too. I need to make sure everything is fine," Martha added, also pushing her way to the front. "Now go on!" she said, shooing them away. They quickly left.
"Jack," the Doctor said as soon as the door closed. Jack looked up and opened his mouth as if to say something. "Go guard Alpha, would you? We'll probably go back to the Master's ship soon, and I don't want him going all psycho-karate-chop-killer on us again, ok?" Jack closed his mouth and turned the other way and walked towards to brig.
"Doctor?" Jackie's voice sounded tired and scared. "If your goin' back to that ship again, I don't want to go with. Now I know that Hope is safe, I'd like ya to take me home."
He nodded. "Alright. That's fine. We can go now if you want."
She shook her head. "Oi! You seem to want to get rid of me! No, I want to say goodbye to Rose and Hope first."
He stepped back in mock hurt. "Me? Never." She laughed. "Come on, go get yourself something to do, I've no idea how long they'll be."
They began to walk down the corridor to the console room when Martha and Rose came out of the infirmary.
"She's fine, I just told her to rest," Martha said to the Doctor's questioning look.
"By the way, Rose, the TARDIS is getting a little crowded, and I've decided that Jackie would do a good job of monitoring the situation on Earth from her flat than up here in the time vortex. We're going back into the action soon, and we need to be sure the Master doesn't try anything crazy," the Doctor said to Rose.
"So I'll be goin' home, alright sweetheart?" Jackie hugged her daughter. "And take care of things back home."
"Ok, see you soon then," she said. Arriving in the console room and landing the TARDIS, Jackie said goodbye to everyone, and left.
As soon as she stepped out of the TARDIS and closed the doors, the Doctor took off again very fast. "She's gone!" Turning to Martha and Rose, he said, "So what do you want to do? Play a game? Ohh! I know! How about freeze tag! I just love a good game of-"
"Actually Doctor, all I wanted to do was sleep," Rose said. When he looked her over she did look tired.
"Yeah me too," Martha added, rubbing her face.
The Doctor looked down. "Oh, ok I have some TARDIS repairs I have to do."
They left to find their rooms. Hopefully the TARDIS didn't move them around too much. He sighed and open his favorite console to tweak things in. Lying down, he poked the wires and panels inside, and placed his hand on the smooth wall behind him, feeling the warmth behind it. This was one of the closest places you could get to the heart of the TARDIS and not be incinerated. Sighing, he just layed there for awhile, not sure for how long, when he heard a noise echo through the pillars. Pushing himself out, and dusting off his blue pinstripe suit, he was expecting Jack, back from guard duty, but saw Hope standing at the entrance to the room, fully dressed in a plain blue t-shirt and jeans, complete with purple converse high-tops. Her eyes glowed in the dimmed lighting.
"Aren't you supposed to be resting?" He asked, though he already knew the answer.
"Yeah," she said, "But that's boring. So I came to see you."
He laughed. "Come over here. I want to show you something." She walked over the where he stood. "Now come down here," he pointed down into the console, where a small alcove was visible. They crouched down and crawled inside. There was just enough space for both of them. She placed her hand on the smooth wall behind them, just as he had done.
"What is it?" she asked, an expression of awe on her face.
"This is as close you can be to the heart of the TARDIS, it's one of my favorite spots."
She smiled. "I like it here."
"So do I," he said, looking over to her, to find her eyes were closed and breathing even. He smiled. Just tonight, right now, everything was right. But where good things happen, evil lurks in wait, just around the corner.
