Hello, my lovely and loyal readers. To get you through the Delena hiatus. There are too many relationship hiatuses on the TVD/TO right now. Delena, Klaroline, Racel or Marbekah (new name for a ship. I haven't decided which one fits.) There're all over the place people. My favs being the three above the writers are killing me here. So, anyway, end of note. See you next week!
Chapter 26: You Can Never Go Back
After explaining the whole odd situation without the part where he had slept with Elena to Elijah, Damon felt wary. "So, here I am," looking around at the others, he didn't really know what else to say. Stefan had his arm around Elena's shoulders and Damon desperately wanted to leave the room. He wanted to be like the Original sister and just walk out of this room and never look at any of these people again.
"Well, that is a very strange story," Elijah murmured while he was thinking. "However, I'm sure I can find a spell in one of my Mother's old grimoire's to send you back to your world if that is what you wish."
"It is," Damon told him. He ignored the look of pain on Elena's face.
"We will need a powerful witch to perform the spell," Elijah told them.
"Someone needs a witch," Kol called as he walked into the Great room with Rebekah and another person.
"Bonnie?" Caroline gasped, looking shocked as she watched Bonnie dance into the room with Kol. "Did you compel her?" She questioned Kol, her eyes narrowing.
"Me? No," Kol told her delightedly. "She is very, very drunk and is a lovely dancer. Usually I don't like witches. But this one is so much fun."
Caroline stared at Klaus, who shook his head, scowling. "Bekah, get the witch some coffee. We need a spell to be performed."
"I am not you're maid, you wanker," Rebekah snapped at him before turning to glare at Stefan. "You used to love me," she told Stefan, who looked at her uncomprehendingly.
"I'm sorry, I don't remember you," Stefan replied.
Rebekah grimaced. "That would be thanks to Nik. He is a bastard."
"Yes, he is," Kol sang while waltzing around the couches.
"I will dagger you both," Klaus threatened them.
Caroline glared at Klaus. "Stop threatening everyone. I am not going to live like this for the next thousand years."
"You plan to stay with me then, sweetheart?" Klaus asked, looking hopeful.
"If you stop acting like that I will consider it," Caroline replied.
Elijah began to rub his temples. "Maybe I should accompany you on your trip, Mr. Gilbert, to free myself from this madness." Damon's eyebrows shot up. "That was a joke." Elijah told him with a smile that looked pained. "I must stay here with my siblings to make sure they do not cause more destruction."
Nodding, Damon sighed. "I'm going to go make the coffee and try to clear my head."
"I'll help you," Elena told him.
Damon stared at her. "I don't really need your help. Thanks anyway." Elena's face contorted as Damon walked into the kitchen. He couldn't deal with her right now. At that moment, watching her with Stefan, he wholly sympathized with his counterpart, Damon Salvatore. It must be hell to have to see her with his brother. He wondered how his own brother was doing at the moment. It didn't matter he would be going home soon.
Filling the coffee pot, Damon turned it on and was startled when he turned around to find Elijah standing behind him. "I was once in love with a young human woman, named Katerina Petrova. She was the doppleganger that Klaus intended to sacrifice in the first place. Then she was turned. I thought this would end but it has not. I want to apologize for this mess you have been dragged into, Damon."
Damon shrugged. "Things happen for a reason. I think or maybe that's bullshit. Who knows," he looked at the coffee pot as it began to blow out steam.
"Yes, and you are in love with Miss Gilbert. So, this must be rather hard for you," Elijah said slowly.
"Can't fool you, can I?" Damon replied with a grin. "I guess I am. I don't know how it happened or why it happened. But it happened. I mean the Elena in my world is crazy and frightening. I couldn't imagine falling in love with her…"
"Maybe you were," Elijah mused. "But you didn't realize it until now. Perhaps that is why you are here. You are soulmates through time and space."
"You know Hallmark would love you," Damon joked, pulling out a cup and pouring coffee into it.
Elijah shook his head with a wide smile. "Dully noted. When my life becomes too dull. I will consider greeting card writer as an occupation. As of now I have too much to deal with my siblings to consider that option."
They walked back into the Great room together to find that Caroline had gotten to her feet and she was waltzing with Klaus. Damon found himself smiling, He couldn't understand why they seemed so natural together. They just seemed to fit. Odd. Looking at Elena, he really wished he hadn't as Elena looked like she was on the edge of tears. It must be one of the hazards of being a newbie vamp.
Walking over to Kol and Bonnie, Damon waved the coffee at Bonnie. "No thanks," Bonnie said and Klaus sped over to her.
"Drink it," Klaus told her, Bonnie took the cup and began to drink it until the cup was empty. She held it out to Damon. He walked back into the kitchen to refill the cup and turned around to find Elena.
"Damon, please, don't act like this. I didn't expect him to come back like this. I need to wait until things are quieter to talk to him," Elena pleaded, her eyes wide.
"Sure. I have to get this Bonnie," Damon told her, walking around her.
"So, that's it. You're just going back." Elena called to him.
"What do you want me to do, Lena? I don't belong here. We don't belong together. You know that. Even if you don't stay with Stefan, I'm not the right Damon. Let me go." Damon told her before walking back into the Great room.
"Thanks," Bonnie said looking like she was beginning to sober up.
"Hey, are you Bonnie drunky pants or Bonnie sober Bennett?" Elena asked as she came to stand in front of her friend and Damon moved away. He thought he saw Stefan studying the way that he was acting with Elena.
"Whatever, Lena, so what kind of spell do you want me to do and who is that?" Bonnie asked, peering at Elijah.
"I am Elijah Mikaelson," Elijah told him.
Bonnie blinked rapidly, "Oh, God. You're one of them."
"Excuse me?" Elijah looked puzzled as he looked down at Bonnie and then his head began to throb. Falling to his knees, he howled in pain.
"Bonnie, what are you doing?" Caroline shouted in horror.
"He's one of them. He's a Mikaelson. Is it not bad enough that Klaus was here in our town but now his brother is here for revenge?" Bonnie asked, staring down at Elijah as he laid on the floor on the edge of passing out.
"I am Klaus," Klaus told Bonnie, who whirled around and then gave him the witchy whammy, he fell to his knees and began to scream.
"Bonnie, stop it," Caroline shouted, grabbing Bonnie by the shoulders and shaking her.
"Why did you make me stop," Bonnie demanded.
"Because she knows who he is," Damon told her. "Now, can you please do the spell to send me home?"
"What is he talking about?" Bonnie asked, feeling horribly confused. "You are home. Is he on something?"
No, I am not. I'm Damon Gilbert." Damon told Bonnie who scrunched her face up in confusion and then turned to the others.
"And you think I'm drunk? Psst." Waving a hand in Damon's direction, Bonnie began to walk away.
"It's true, Bonnie," Elena told her friend as she stared at Damon her expression one of misery. "He's Damon Gilbert. Another witch must have performed a spell on our Damon and sent him somewhere else. So, we have to get him back and send the other Damon home," looking at her hands she added. "Because that's what he wants."
Bonnie stared at Elena her mouth hanging open in shock and then she stared at Damon. "Are you sure that you're not Damon Salvatore? Because this is so a Damon Salvatore thing to do."
"No, that would be Mick or should I say Klaus," Caroline snapped remembering the fact that she was still angry at him.
"Huh?" Bonnie asked, she began to rub at her temples.
"It's alright, darling," Kol cooed, wrapping an arm around her shoulders.
"Would everyone stop being stupid and get on with the spell casting and such nonsense?" Rebekah yelled at them reminding everyone of her presense. "I have far better things to do with my time than watch my former boyfriend playing with one of the bloody dopplegangers when she was cavorting about with the Damon person not long ago."
"What?" Stefan whispered, staring at Rebekah and then he looked at Elena and Damon. Elena looked horrified and Damon looked angry.
"Look, witch girl," Damon snapped, staring down at Bonnie. "I want to get back to my old world. And I want to get there yesterday. Do you understand me?"
Bonnie looked dazed as she got up to walk out of the room with Elijah. "What the hell is she talking about, Elena?" Stefan cried out, getting up to stare at Elena.
"I was going to tell you," Elena whispered as she looked up at Stefan with wide eyes. "I didn't mean for anything to happen or for you to find out like this."
"What happened?" Stefan asked her, his eyebrows rising and his hands going to his hair as Elena's lower lips wobbled.
"I had sex with Damon," Elena confessed and then she saw Stefan sped over to Damon and punch him in the face.
"Now, that is more like it," Rebekah said, trading amused looks with Kol.
"This is your fault," Elena yelled at Rebekah getting up to try to separate the two vampires.
"Oh, no you don't," Rebekah snapped. She grabbed Elena by the shoulders and threw her back on top of the couch. "You're going to sit there like a good little girl and watch what you've created."
Kol walked over and sat beside Elena. "Personally, I don't think either of them are worth your time. But then again you are a doppleganger and your lot don't seem to have much taste. But then again neither does Miss Forbes." Kol grinned at Caroline who sneered at him and then elbowed Klaus when he tried to place his arms around her waist.
"Got it," Bonnie called as she walked back into the Great room. "Drunk me kicks magical ass."
Elijah seemed to be less certain as they walked into the room. "I do hope that this is the correct spell. I would hate to think that you may send Mr. Salvatore to a hell dimension." Elijah then noticed that Stefan was beating Damon to a bloody pulp. "What happened while we were gone?"
"Oh, Elena is a strumpet like Bekah and Katherine," Kol announced as he rested his feet on the table in front of him. "How about you, Caroline, do like to test out other brothers?"
"Kol, I will dagger you if you do not shut the bloody hell up," Klaus shouted at Kol, his face turning red and his body coiled, ready to spring.
"Klaus, stop it," Caroline ordered him.
Elijah ignored the others in favor of jerking Stefan off of Damon. "Enough. If we are to make this spell work you will have to put an end to this."
"Ah, Lijah, I was betting on Damon trouncing the other wanker," Kol complained.
"Yes, and I was to. Only because Stefan does not remember me. Which is all Nik's fault," Rebekah told them, crossing her arms over her chest.
"Oh, look Bekah thinks any man would think her remarkable enough to remember. Well, darling, it's just sex. Most men forget women who make it that easy on them," Kol continued. "Speaking of easy. Are any of you ladies interested in a drink after this spell is over?"
"I swear to God, Kol," Klaus snarled at Kol and Kol laughed at him.
"Oh, Nik, you're so very easy to make angry. Between you and Bekah I don't know which one is easier. Tell us, Caroline, how long was it before Nik dropped his pants for you?" Kol questioned Caroline leaning over and placing his face between his hands with his elbows on his knees.
"You're crazy," Caroline snapped.
"Can I please go home some time tonight?" Damon shouted above the chaos.
"Yes," Elijah replied. "Bonnie, would you like to begin the spell?"
"If I thought it would change the things that have happened I would go with you," Stefan muttered as he stared at the floor. "I just can't believe that this happened."
"I'm sorry, Stefan," Elena groaned.
"Yes, we're all sorry, you're boring," Kol snapped at her. "Would you hurry up with this stupid spell thing? I want to play with my witch." He gave Bonnie a big grin which made the witch blush.
"Would you compel Stefan to remember me?" Rebekah asked Klaus.
Stefan looked at Klaus. "Just compel me to forget about Damon and Elena and I'll become you're minion and do whatever crazy thing you want. I just don't want to think about those two anymore."
Klaus' eyes began to sparkle until Caroline gave him an evil look. "Alright, love. I'm just going to take the compulsion off," Klaus reassured her.
Damon rolled his eyes as Bonnie pulled open a large book and began to chant. Feeling tired, Damon stared at Bonnie. Honestly, he was afraid of what would happen. How many things could the other Damon have altered in his world? How had Caroline handled his absence? He missed Jeremy and his aunt, Jenna. Damon missed Matt and Tyler and his old friends. But he would miss the people he had met here. He would miss Elena most of all.
Damon wondered as Bonnie continued to chant whether he would feel differently when he saw Elena Salvatore again. She had once frightened him horribly but now that he was lived as Damon Salvatore for a few months he thought that he understood her a little but more than he did before.
Damon felt the world beginning to swirl. He was growing tired and he felt his eyes closing. "Good-bye, Damon." Damon heard Elena whisper.
"Good-bye," Elena Damon called as he felt himself moving out of the body he had been inhabiting and he wondered if he would this was for the best. It didn't matter anymore because he had to go and he would find out what his world was like now.
