A/N: K, so this chapter contains the Booth and Bones moment a few people have wanted. It's short and it's probably out of character, but I wrote it how I wanted. So if you don't like it, oh well. Don't complain...
Christmas Day…
This year, the joyous holiday was more subdued, but that was to be expected though. Megan, who had been rescued from her first (and hopefully last) kidnapping, was still a bit traumatized. She'd thought she was going to be killed by Christopher Pellant, but thankfully it was Pellant who was dead and not her.
Then there was the emotional issue Megan was dealing with. She was still having an internal conflict on her father wanting her. Being rescued by him made her believe that he did, so Ms. Birch's words didn't weigh as much on her mind. But they still echoed every so often, filling her with doubt.
One good thing did happen on Christmas though. After gifts were exchanged between the Jeffersonian team and the Booth family, lunch was served. After lunch as Booth went to get dessert from the fridge, Bones followed him to help. The fridge door held open, Seely Booth confessed something. "Bones," he spoke, "Look, I don't know what will happen at the court date next month. But if the judge does decide to take Megan and place her back in the system I need to know that she will be safe." Seeley took out the lemon merengue pie that had had bought especially for Megan. "I need you to take her in, to petition to be her foster parent."
"No." Temperance Brennan told him as she took the pie from Booth and started to cut it.
"But-
Brennan interrupted him. "The judge won't take her." She told him with confidence.
"Bones, you can't guarantee that."
Taking the bread pudding Angela had made and scooping it into a serving dish, she looked at Seeley and said to him, "You're an amazing parent." Then as she cut the banana bread she had brought into slices she continued. "However, if you would like to figure in the unlikely-hood that that situation might happen, then there is another option. You would have to marry me."
"What?" Booth almost dropped a few glasses he was holding. Carefully putting them on the counter he looked at Temperance with shock clearly shown on his face.
"Yes. With us being married, or at least engaged, Megan will be safe in my custody and you will still be able to see her. Now this is completely cliché and not traditional at all. However," Temperance pulls a ring from her pocket. "I would like you to marry me, Seeley Booth."
In awe, he grabs Temperance in his arms and kisses her. "Bones," Then kisses her again. "Temperance Brennan, I love you." Then he took the ring from her and slid it on her finger.
"Okay, what is taking so long out here?" Angela asked as she entered the kitchen. Seeing the two of them lip-locked, she gasped. "Oh my God." Then she noticed the ring on Temperance's finger. "Is that...Are you two…" Angela was so surprised she couldn't get the words out.
"I don't know. Are we Bones?" Seeley Booth asked his partner, a bit smug.
She let out a laugh. "Don't call me Bones."
"Too bad. I'm going to keep calling you Bones and I'm never going to stop."
Another laugh escaped the forensic anthropologist's lips. Looking at Angela she stated to her best friend, "Yes, we are engaged."
A small squeal was heard in the kitchen which caused the residents of the table to look in that direction. The three people in the kitchen exited and as they did, Dr. Brennan said to the group, "Seeley and I are engaged." This caused a ruckus to explode around the room. Lots of congratulations were said, except by Megan. She hadn't said a word since the kidnapping. But the smile on her face showed her approval.
So all in all, it was a pretty great Christmas.
But after the holiday…
Now that was a different story.
