Chapter 25: The second reaping

A few months have passed. I've done some shows, hung out with a few friends (even Mike), and taken care of Scout. He just got a new hair cut today.

They are reaping the victors. I watch as Effie picks out the only female name; I notice how sad she looks. She's sending her only friend to her death. Katiness and Haymitch get picked; but Peeta volunteers. I look at the paintings I have in my room. He two mocking jays and a tree.

Katiness took care of Rue when I couldn't; she tried to protect my friend. I take black nail polish and paint the words, "Not everyone who keeps peace carry guns." Now I am alongside Katiness and Rue.

Sunny knocks on my door with tears in her eyes. She quickly hugs me.
"Sunny, what's wrong?" I ask. She stops crying to look at me; Her makeup is ruined.
"It's Daniel."
"What about him?"

"He's nearly been killed."

"What?" I ask.
"He was helping a girl in another district not knowing she was helping the revolution, and peace keepers shot him. By the time he explained himself, it was almost too late. He's in the hospital now."
"This is terrible."
"Those darn peacekeepers."

"I know."

Sunny looks at me and stares into my eyes.
"I know what you mean now," she says. She recollects herself and I make her a cup of this weird colored tea she likes. She sits down in one of the chairs and touches up her makeup, redoing everything. I have never seen her without makeup before. (She is still wearing a wig, but still.)
