Author Note: Doubt I will get the last chapter done in 45 minutes but definitely in the next couple of hours! Very brief use of the prompt.

Yellow

Burke, Robbie and Jackie had agreed to stay later on this evening to completely finish the paperwork that they each had some which was outstanding. Yet somehow Stuart had wandered past their room and ended up chatting for hours which had ultimately led to food being ordered in and Karen Campbell phoning Burke from her office to ask if he could pick her up instead of her having to bus it home. Fortunately for her he offered to go home then but when he mentioned he was still in the station she sighed and hung up, guessing he would not in fact be ready for ages.

"What a suprise to find all you here. I thought you would have been doing work." Karen smirked, putting her hands on Matt's shoulders and leaning down to kiss his cheek. Looking around at the table full of snack and junk food she shook her head and muttered, "It's as though you don't get fed at my house." They had been in a relationship for over a year and although they still technically did still have their own homes hers was the main one they resided in.

"You feed me healthy bollocks, this is nice food. Anyway I assumed you would be home by now."

"Couple of meetings and catching up to do. I do the food thing out of the kindness of my heart," she muttered before stealing the slice out of his grasp and taking bites out of it. "This is quite nice except the obvious."

"Couldn't you have just picked up a piece with less instead of taking my piece without looking?" The other people present in the room gave blank and confused looks before Burke explained himself, "She has this thing about yellow peppers."

"They taste crap!" She interrupted as she reached out for some chips and tomato ketchup from one of the boxes after having pulled a seat over next to her partner.

A half hour later they were still having random conversations when Karen realised something which she put words to. "I miss this kind of thing, having a group that know how to act with one another to work with. The lot upstairs are all so bloody stuck up and can't have a laugh."

"See, I told you being in charge wasn't all it was cracked up to be." They all knew he was joking because he was not-so-secretly incredibly proud of what she had achieved and that he got to say Karen was his girlfriend.

"But I got to boss you around." She was still Chief Super in the station but not in the same department as this team.

"Until you decided that bossing me around at home is more fun." He joked as she leaned over and pressed her lips to his.

"See Jackie, that could be us." Robbie commented with a raise of an eyebrow in her direction.

"If only I actually wanted to live with you." Jackie replied to Stuart's amusement who was enjoying being with the four of his very good friends.

"You might not want to live with me but you certainly want to do everything else." She glared back at him whilst he winked, both knowing that he was spot-on with what he had said.

"It's like watching a pair of teenagers on heat," Karen pointed out which was as accurate as could be about Robbie and Jackie's relationship.

"You get used to it after a while."

Robbie and Jackie were avoiding the other one's eyes but it wasn't really working and they kept grinning like idiots when they noticed their old friend doing the exact same thing. They did want to be a couple but it had been so long a time coming that it felt awkward to do anything more about it.

"I mean, we love each other and we have never acted like this."

"I know, we just argue over your ridiculous yellow pepper hatred."

"It is not ridiculous! Stop taking the fucking piss!" She sulked for a couple of minutes although it was not that serious - she had just had a rubbish day and he had annoyed her about her pizza preference once too many times. Matt had grown used to her quick mood swings so left her to it, correct in his assumption that she would fast snap out of it and he would be back in her good books which he knew he was when she rested her head on his shoulder later in the same discussion about how Robbie and Jackie needed to get their act together.

Karen chose to make another fact on the matter, "You could be so much happier if you just admitted your feelings, it is also so much more fun."

Burke shifted his head to face the woman next to him, "Why thank you, it is fun with you too, dear."

She smiled up to him, receiving a quick kiss as she could feel his hands slipping up her side, his thumb finding the outline of her bra and gently tracing along it.
