"Did she finally stop crying?" Meredith asked as she leant against the door to the new room that occupied her daughter.
It was a private room, one where Derek and Meredith could watch over their daughter in peace and quiet, away from the rest of the world and its chaos. There were no more tubes left, just some couple of wires that measured her heart rate and blood pressure. Derek held his daughter in his strong fatherly arms, watching down at her as she slept. She was wrapped in a pink blanket, sucking her thumb. Derek always believed that all babies looked the same when they were born however, he couldn't get over the fact that she looked just like her mother.
"Yeah," he replied as he snuggled his daughter before placing her down in her crib. He rested his hands on the edge of the crib and continued to look away from Meredith. His heart hurt so much from the events of the past couple of weeks that he now felt sorry for everything he had said and done to her. The images of those things reflected through his mind and he wasn't sure how he was going to get her back; if he was going to get her back. "Meredith."
It was a low whisper, but she could still hear him. She knew what he was going to say, but she stopped him. She couldn't let him take the blame for everything that happened. If she wasn't so stupid, then the things he done wouldn't have happened. He wouldn't have kissed his ex-wife, he wouldn't have blamed Meredith. They would still be Meredith and Derek, the happy, shiny couple who had picked each other up when they were at their worst. They were the couple who everyone talk about at the hospital, that couple where everyone looked at them and wished for someone to love them the way Derek loves Meredith.
"You don't have to say anything." She walked towards him and wrapped her arms around his waist, her slender hands reaching to his chest. She wanted to feel his heart beating inside his chest. Meredith pushed her body more into him, wanting to savour the moment. She gently placed her lips on his shoulder, letting a tear fall down her cheek.
Derek turned around and lifted her chin up to meet her silver eyes. He saw the same hurt in her eyes as he felt within him. He brought his head down to her, their lips only inches apart feeling each other's breath on their flesh.
Their lips soon touched, that spark they felt when they first kissed at the hospital in the elevator was still there. They had not kissed passionately in six weeks. Six weeks where to people who were so deeply in love with each other with no contact was a very long time. Derek pulled her closer to his body. She opened her mouth slightly allowing his tongue to slide in and explore. He missed the taste of her; she missed the taste of him too. They couldn't stop, the kiss heated up. Meredith felt is hand caressing her breast, she so badly wanted to slip his shirt of and feel the touch of his skin, but she couldn't do it.
She pulled away and looked down at the floor. "We…er…should wait."
"Okay." He looked at her with a sense of worry in his eyes.
"I'm going to see Cristina." Meredith placed a kiss on her daughter's forehead and before Derek could protest, she had already disappeared from the room.
He took his cell phone out of his jeans pocket and dialled Mark's number.
As Mark answered Derek spoke. "Hey, Mark. I need you to do me a favour."
The table was set and the candle in the middle was lit. The room remained dim, the table was set and the food was cooking. He placed a red rose down onto the table, in her spot.
Cristina was getting her. This was his way of making it up to her. Of course a romantic dinner wasn't going to make up for everything he had done to her over the past six weeks, but it was a start. It was a chance to talk, a chance to just be alone, the two of them. Mark agreed to watch the baby, while Derek and Meredith spent some alone time. Cristina was going to join Mark too in between her surgeries. As for Meredith she was currently being chucked into her car by her best friend.
"You need to go home now!" Cristina demanded. "Go, get out of here!"
"What about my daughter, Cristina?" Meredith pleaded, not wanting to go anywhere.
"Mark and I have it covered! Go!"
"Fine, but you ring me the first sign you see her in trouble, even if her heart rate drops by one, you ring me!" She closed the driver's door and pulled out of the parking lot, leaving Cristina with an accomplished smile on her face.
When she got to her house, Derek stood outside waiting for her. He was in casual wear, just jeans and a t-shirt, but Meredith still found him the most attractive man on the planet. In his hand he held a piece of fabric.
"What?" Meredith asked with a smile as she realised he had been staring her the whole time she had pulled into the driveway.
"You should put this on." Derek held out the fabric and turned her around before placing it over her eyes.
"Why?"
"Enough with the questions okay?"
"Okay."
As she stepping into her home the smell of food being cooked drifted up her nostrils. She loved Derek's cooking, but that was probably because she refused to cook. He guided her into the living room. Even with the blindfold on Meredith knew exactly where she was.
"Stay here. You can take your blindfold off. There's something for you on the table." He walked out of the room.
She slipped the piece of fabric down her face from her eyes. As she looked down toward the coffee table she saw her favourite dress sprawled out in front of her, with a not laying on top.
Slip on this dress, I know it's your favourite. Meet me in the kitchen when you're ready.
I love you. D x
She did as the letter said. As she walked down the hallway, she noticed the flicker of the candle coming from the kitchen.
"Come on in." Derek said as he felt her presence standing at the door.
"What's going on?" She asked as her green-blue eyes scanned around the dimly lit room.
"Dinner." Derek continued to stir the vegetable. "Take a seat, dinner will be ready soon."
Meredith took a seat where the red rose lay in front of her. She picked it up and put it to her nose. The smell sent comfort through her fragile body.
He placed the food in front of her and laid his plate in his place before taking a seat. He opened the bottle of Rioja that was already placed on the table and filled her glass up, before filling his up. Derek put the bottle of wine back down on the table and gazed into her eyes, smiling sweetly. He then picked up his fork and proceeded to eat, Meredith did the same thing too.
They made small talk throughout dinner. They laughed, teased and held each other's hand. It was like the first date they never got the chance to have, the perfect first date. Meredith wasn't the romantic type and Derek knew that. But this was the only way he knew how to communicate with a woman who he really loved. By the time their plates were empty it was already getting late. They decided to sit on the wooden swinging chair that was kept on Meredith's porch. She curled up into his body as his arm wrapped around her protectively. She missed the way she felt in his arms, the way that every time she was with him, she felt so safe, like all the horrible things that happened in life didn't matter anymore because she was lucky to have such a great human being as part of her life.
The sun was sitting and they remained hold each other as the stared up at the orange sky. He placed a kiss on top of her head and she snuggled up closer to him.
"I missed you." She said as she wrapped her arm around him.
"I missed you too."
She pulled away from him, grabbing his hand on the way, entwining her fingers with his. Her head moved closer toward his, placing a gentle kiss upon his lips. He slowly rose from his seat, laying Meredith on her back, not parting his lips from hers. He placed himself on top of her placing her hand above her head. He kisses moved from her lips down her next. His other hand slid up her thigh reaching for the thin strap of her panties. She loosened her grip from his hand and reached down to his jeans, slowly unzipping them. He continued to kiss her collarbone as he slipped her underwear down her legs, soon falling to the floor. He placed himself between her legs, slowly moving himself inside of her. A small moan escaped her lips as she took all of him in. He slowly moved in and out, his rhythm remaining steady at first, soon quickening. His hand caressed her breast, still covered by her black dress. Her slender fingers brushed through his hair. Their tongues fighting against each other as the need grew. She couldn't help but moan his name softly under her breath, that's when he knew she was close to the edge. He was close too, he moved inside of her one last time before they came together.
It was like magic; of course they had done it plenty of times before, but this time seemed different. Like the prom, the way they made love just then felt like a new beginning. Like nothing in the world would be able to come between them. They were a family now. No matter how much they hurt each other, they would never be able to remove that feeling of love that was buried deep within their hearts.
"Abbie." Derek whispered in her ear.
"What?" She asked staring up at him, confused.
"The baby, we should call her Abbie."
She looked up at him, biting her bottom lip. Soon forming into a smile.
Sorry it's been so long, life's been a little bit hectic. But I hope you enjoyed this update. Hopefully the next update won't be so long away.
