Edward squinted, his green eyes filled with curiosity. "Have I seen you before?"
"I, uh..." My mind was looking for an excuse as my eyes danced around the room. "No." I finally replied.
"Oh." He raised his eyebrows. "Because I think I have. I just don't remember where."
But I do, my inner voice whispered.
"I'm sorry for interrupting. I just... I knew that song you were playing." I blurted out.
"Really? It's just... this song is only played in my family." He replied.
I heard Jane behind me. "Bella, I— oh." She stopped, staring at Edward. She then lowered her voice. "Isn't that...?"
"Yeah, it is." I whispered back.
"Your name's Bella?" Edward asked. "That's strange. The song I was playing just now is called—"
"Bella's Lullaby." I completed his sentence. "I know the song." I approached the piano and as I stood up, I played the first few notes of my lullaby.
Edward stared at me blankly. "How...?"
"I'm sorry, oh god." I breathed. "I shouldn't have—"
I walked out in an instant when I didn't know what else to say. I pulled Jane on the way and we entered the elevator. As the doors closed, I saw Edward come out of the practice room and try to catch us before we could leave, but it was too late for him. I blew out a mouthful of air as my fingers threaded through my hair.
"Oh my god what have I done?" I cringed. "He probably thinks I'm a creep. I... oh god..."
"Bella, you're stressing too much." Jane told me. "Anyways, we're going to the diner tonight for dinner, so we have to meet Mom & Alec there."
"Your brother's coming?" I asked.
She looked to her left without turning her head. "He'll just be at our table for a drink, then he'll have dinner with his friends at another table."
I sighed. "Okay. Anyways, let's just leave and take a drive around town."
We got into her car and as she drove around town, I felt like I was in a time machine. I recognised a few shops that existed in 1918 still in the same area in my time.
"So, the guy just now— Edward— I think I recognise him." Jane started. "I think he's from my school. We're in the same year but we take different electives. I think Alec has three or more classes with him."
"Really?" I said. "He's from your school?"
"Yeah, but we've never talked to each other. I'm not sure whether he's Alec's friend. I don't really know much about Alec's social life." Jane shrugged. She glanced at the car time and she raised her eyebrows, sighing. "We have to get to the diner now."
She turned left and pulled in to the parking lot. When we came out, I saw a huge sign saying Chelsea's Diner. We entered and the entrance bell chimed. Jane searched the sea of faces for her mother and brother's and pulled me to the table. Heidi was only there and there was no sign of Alec.
Heidi smiled up at me. "Hey Bella. How was your day?"
I slid into the seat with Jane. "Uh, eventful?"
She laughed. "I won't dig for details then. Order whatever you want."
"Shouldn't we wait for Alec?" I asked.
"Unless you don't want to eat for the next half hour, no." Jane chuckled, reaching out for the menu.
"Alright then." I muttered.
I ordered a hamburger with a glass of strawberry milkshake while Jane opted for fish and chips with a glass of banana milkshake. Heidi got a caesar's salad and a can of Dr. Pepper. When I was halfway finishing my burger, the entrance bell chimed. I could recognise Alec— he was a brunette unlike Jane, but they both shared the same features. He was only inches taller than her, though. He came in with a group of guys and they all took a seat behind our table. Alec said a few words to them before sitting beside Heidi.
"Hey Mom." He greeted. "Ooh, fries." He reached for Jane's fries, but she slapped his hand away.
"Don't you dare," she warned.
"Oh come on, only one." Alec rolled his eyes.
"No." Jane narrowed her eyes to slits at him.
He chuckled under his breath and smiled at me. "Hey Bella. You're looking good."
"I think I am." I simply replied. "You're gonna split time here, eh?"
"I have to." He shrugged. "My friends are here and all."
He ordered for a chocolate milkshake and we all chatted a little bit before he finally switched over to his friends half an hour later. I glanced over at his friends and studied their features. One was big and muscular with black hair. Another one had black hair too, but was lean. I then looked at the guy beside Alec and gasped softly before looking forward again to not attract his attention.
"Jane, it's him." I whispered.
Jane glanced casually over shoulder and raised her eyebrows. "Huh."
Heidi eyed the both of us curiously, but never pushed us with any questions.
"As expected. It isn't hard to make a friend in history class. History sucks— reasons why I never took up the subject this year." Jane muttered.
I glanced over again and this time, I caught his eye.
"Shit," I squeaked. I could feel his gaze at the back of my head and I lowered down my head, grimacing. "He saw me."
"What the hell?" Jane laughed.
I perked my ears up to listen to Alec & Edward's conversation.
"Who's that beside your sister?" Edward asked.
"My cousin. She's visiting from Washington."
"She's not from around here?"
"Nope. Never was." Alec replied. "Why? You interested in her?" He joked.
I cringed and moved out of my seat. I stood up and headed to the restroom. Soon, I could hear footsteps behind me. I walked faster and just before I could push the door to the ladies', a hand caught my wrist. I could feel the same buzz of electricity making the hairs at the back of my neck stand. I looked behind.
"Why did you leave so abruptly just now at the library?" Edward asked. "Why are you avoiding me?"
"I..." I looked down at my feet and felt my breaths turn shallow. "I panicked. I... don't know why. I'm not so good with strangers."
"You're just in town to visit?" His voice sounded a little disappointed. "Until when?"
"Two weeks here." I said. "Can you please let me go?"
He shook his head. "Not until I get something out of you. I'm Edward."
"I..." I know that, I was about to say. "I'm Bella."
He smiled his crooked smile and I felt my heart melt just like the time we were in the kitchen and he tended to my bruised wrist. I felt a little tear slip out as I thought about how Present-Time Edward wouldn't remember all of theses from his previous life. I wiped it away quickly.
"I want to see you again." He said. "Where should we meet?"
"Tomorrow. Noon." I said after a few seconds, still not daring to look up at him. "Graceland Cemetery. Plot 7456."
He frowned. "Why a cemetery?"
"I... I have some people to visit." I said. "It isn't too weird, is it?"
He shook his head slowly. "I'll see you there, then."
"Okay. It was nice meeting you." I whispered and he let go of me. I pushed past the restroom door.
HEYYYY. So I know I'm a little late *cringes* but I UPDATED! Yep. Stayed up just to do so. Because I love you guys. Hahah.
YAYYY our favorite couple (unless your favorite is some other couple then bleh XD) has been reunited! So what do you think they should talk about? Any questions for me, like when is my birthday or something (LOL)?
