~I own nothing except O/C~

"I have tried Damon!" Bonnie gritted her teeth "Well try harder." Damon said emotionless "There's nothing else I can do." Bonnie whispered "He's on the other side Bonnie. Bring him back, for all our sakes" Damon's voice cracked. "Damon…I can't. I can't contact Alaric on the other side; I know we all want him back. I'm sorry" Bonnie said sadly. Damon sighed before throwing his glass from his hand as it shattered against the wall.

Lucy sat a few feet from them numbly staring into oblivion, exactly like she had been since it was confirmed there was nothing they could do to bring Alaric back yesterday. A tired Matt sat beside her where he had been sitting since the news broke, with his arm loosely thrown around Lucy's shoulder. Often he would try to talk to her but it fell on blocked ears, Lucy was miles away as she sat wrapped in Alaric's oversized Duke Hoodie gently twisting her engagement ring around her finger.

"You want me to get that?" Matt whispered as the doorbell continued to ring. Lucy stared onto nothing, "Luce?" Matt said slightly louder as he gently shook Lucy's shoulder "Sorry?" Lucy said hoarsely tuning back into the room "You want me to get the door?" Matt asked again as Lucy noticed the doorbell ringing "Oh, uh…No, no I'll get it" she said slowly getting up patting Matts knee before walking at human speed to the door.

Lucy pulled open the front door to the boarding house as her eyes landed on a slim, dark haired man with bags at his feet. "Wow you really are beautiful." The stranger grinned. Lucy tightened her grip on the door as her eyebrows knitted together in confusion. "Sorry." He chucked "You have to be lovely Lucy! I tried the apartment first but himself didn't answer…typical!" He joked lightly. "Who are you?" Lucy said quietly "Oh, sorry…Ben Saltzman" Ben said extending his hand. Lucy stared at him completely shocked as realisation crashed down on her that no one told him.

"Lucy?" Damon called walking to the door. He stopped beside Lucy as his face fell "Ben…" He whispered "Damon" Ben grinned before it quickly faded "Are you guys always this serious? Come on it's a wedding!" Ben laughed. A shaky breath escaped Lucy as she tried to keep herself composed. Damon placed a hand on her back moving her gently back into the house "I've got it" he whispered. Lucy looked at her brother before walking towards the stairs "Ben, come in…We need to talk" Damon said softly. Bens face grew serious as he followed Damon into the living room.

"Matt Out." Damon said short as he invited Ben to sit down. Matt walked towards the stairs, he stopped as he noticed Lucy sitting on the fifth step hugging her knees to her chest looking more fragile than he has ever witnessed. "Lucy? Who is that?" Matt said gently "Ben…" Lucy stared into space "Ben?" Matt asked "His brother…Alaric's…no one told him. He's here for the, the wedding." Lucy croaked. Matt sat beside her on the staircase as she listened. "He died Ben…I'm so sorry" Damon's hoarse voice said, Lucy's ears were full with Bens heart-breaking sobs. It tipped her over the edge as her frame shook with sobs "Shhh, Lucy" Matt said cradling her into his chest as her grief took hold, Matt held onto her tighter.

"Lucy please…his funeral is almost over." Stefan pleaded from the doorway as Lucy stared out her window at nothing hugging herself "They don't have his body." She whispered "I know, everyone thought it was right to pay their respects regardless…Please Lucy, come on. You'll regret this if you don't say goodbye." Stefan said "I can't say goodbye…Goodbye makes it final Stefan, it means he is never coming back to me…that can't be true" She whispered as tears rolled softly down her cheeks. "I know this is hard, none of us want to do this…but you have to be strong, I'll be right beside you okay?" Stefan said softly putting his arm around his sister as she nodded in defeat "We'll head to the grave" Stefan whispered walking his sister out of the room.

The black marble stone stood tall in the grass as the sunbeams hit against it. Alaric's grave was surrounded by people who loved him the most as their cheek were all stained with tears. Lucy held on tighter to Stefan feeling weak as she approached the grave. "It's alright" Stefan whispered hugging his sister as they stood at the back of the crowd. Elena was making a speech about Alaric and struggling to hold it together as Damon held onto her hand. Everyone said beautiful things about Alaric, his funniest moments, his greatest achievements, what he meant to everyone. Everyone present threw a white lily before the headstone. The crowd slowly started to disperse.

"I'll see you at home" Lucy whispered to Stefan when they were the only ones left "Are you sure?" He asked before she nodded "Thank you" She pulled her little brother into a hug before turning to face the headstone. She felt tears bubble as her eyes ran over his picture on the grave "Love at first stake." Was written at the bottom of the stone "Damn it Alaric" she smiled as tears fell "He thought he was a comedic genius with that pun" Lucy turned to see Damon holding up a bottle of whiskey.

Lucy & Damon sat beside Alaric's headstone drinking whiskey. Loud chuckles could be heard throughout the graveyard as they reminisced on old times with their friend and partner. "Then he shot up and he was so angry…he was like YOU KILLED ME!" Damon chuckled imitating him. "We should have been married by now" Lucy smiled sadly "He would have been the proudest man to be married to you Lucy. That is a wedding I would have been happy to see" Damon smiled as Lucy began twisting her ring again "I don't care what witch girl says…He is up there somewhere looking out for us all." Damon nodded raising the bottle towards the sunset "Be safe Alaric" Lucy whispered softly.

"It's going to be hard Lucy, but I'm right here. So is Stefan, we'll pull you through this okay? Just take it step by step." Damon said softly as they approached the front door of the boarding house "Thank you" Lucy whispered forcing a smile onto her face which quickly faded as Damon closed the door behind them, they turned to see the house filled with the hum of people talking. The siblings walked further into the house as their eyes settled on the wake in the house. "Damon…" Lucy whispered "I didn't know this was happening here." Damon whispered apologetically. Suddenly Lucy was bombarded with people passing their condolences. People she had never met before all shaking her hand, hugging her and telling her what a lovely man Alaric was. Lucy felt tidal waves of grieve crash over her as she became suffocated "I-I'm sorry…I can't." She whispered to Matt who stood in front of her before she sped out of the house ignoring her name being called multiple times.

Lucy sighed in relief as she found a peaceful corner at the end of the bar in the grill and settled onto the stool "Whiskey." Lucy said short to the bartender "Leave the bottle…please" She whispered. The Bartender nodded sympathetically before walking away leaving Lucy alone. A glass full of crimson liquid was placed in front of her, Lucy glanced to her right "Do you ever actually leave Mystic Falls or is that all talk?" she smirked "Stop getting in trouble then" Elijah smiled quickly "Wasn't me this time" Lucy shrugged "I'm so sorry Lucetta…I know you must despise my family after recent events but…" "Hate you? I don't hate your family because of something Rebekah has done Elijah" Lucy said seriously "Well I appreciate that but I am still deeply sorry for your loss Lucetta" Elijah placed his hand over Lucy's. She nodded squeezing his hand back.

"I can tell just by looking at you, you haven't been feeding" Elijah sighed edging the glass towards her. Lucy could already feel the burn in the back of her throat as the blood wafted through her nostrils "I haven't been thinking much" She whispered "For me? Please?" Elijah said softly before Lucy gripped the glass and drank it dry followed by another gulp of whiskey "Lucetta…Forgive my inappropriate ways but, the pain you are feeling now. Does it compare to the pain you felt after Niklaus?" Elijah asked softly. Lucy nodded as tears sprang to her eyes "the same amount of pain." She croaked "At least he will witness what his previous actions caused once and for all." Elijah mumbled as Lucy downed more whiskey. "I apologise Lucetta but it was only a quick visit." Elijah said standing again "Thank you for sitting with me Elijah." Lucy slurred "My pleasure. Don't hesitate to call me if you feel you need to Lucetta. Look after yourself." Elijah said softly kissing her forehead before leaving the bar.

Lucy was halfway through her third bottle of whiskey in an hour as the dimly lit bar was her comfort, when suddenly she heard beside her "Scotch please mate." Klaus smiled as the bartender handed him his drink "Lucetta…" He sighed turning towards her "Go away." Lucy gritted looking straight ahead of her "Please love." He whispered "What do you want Klaus?!" She snapped "Believe me Lucetta when I say that I had no idea what Rebekah's intentions were, if I had I would have…" "What? You would have what?! Ran to Alaric's rescue to stop him from being murdered? Because we all know how much you liked him Niklaus!" Lucy spat slamming her bottle down onto bar, standing up "Sweetheart…" Klaus reached for her arm "Go to hell" Lucy gritted snatching her arm away from Klaus before storming out of the bar.

"I don't understand you!" Klaus shouted as the bar door slammed shut behind them "I don't care Niklaus!" Lucy shouted back trying to steady herself as the night air made her realise how much she had drank "You tell Elijah you don't blame anyone except Rebekah and yet you blame me still" Klaus said irritated. Lucy stared at him "Answer me! Why do you blame me?" Klaus bellowed at her "I blame you Niklaus because Rebekah fled like the coward she is! You are all that's left. You were there when I heard he was dead…If I don't hate you Niklaus then I'll need you and…I can't do that, I can't need you." Lucy said as he voice cracked feeling the tears gather.

"I'm sorry Lucetta." Klaus said quietly. Lucy turned her back to him "Where are you going love?" Klaus said confused "I need to go, I need to be near him." Lucy rambled and began walking as her balance blanked out under the influence. "Easy sweetheart." Klaus said quickly grabbing hold of Lucy's waist, stopping her from falling "Why Niklaus." She turned to face him "Why did this have to happen…He didn't deserve this" Lucy's tears began to fall "I know, I know love" Klaus whispered "It hurts…It hurts so much" Lucy cried as Klaus pulled her into his tight embrace feeling a pain shoot across his heart as he remembered being told those were the exact words Lucy cried to Elijah when she thought she had lost him forever.

A couple of minutes passed as Lucy let go of her grieve and frustration "Let me take you home to your brothers" Klaus said softly rubbing her back "No, no I can't go there right now." Lucy shook her head pulling herself from Klaus' arms "I need to be close to him" She sniffled "What about the apartment?" Klaus whispered "You'll take me there?" Lucy blinked her tears away "Of course love" Klaus nodded as she mastered a smile. Klaus picked Lucy up bridal style "Hold on tight." Klaus said before zooming off.

As they arrived at the apartment Lucy felt incredibly tired as the alcohol took full effect. "You stay there sweetheart, I've got you." Klaus whispered as he opened the door gently, pushing aside the mail that lay behind the door, Klaus closed the door behind them and carried Lucy through to the bedroom. He gently put Lucy on her bed, covering her with a soft blanket that lay on the edge of the bed. "I'm sorry Lucetta" he stroked her cheek softly "Thank you Niklaus" Lucy whispered squeezing his hand before closing her eyes fully.

Klaus left the room returning a few minutes later with a glass of water, a blood bag and Lucy's phone, he placed them softly on her bedside table before turning off the main light so only the dim bedside light was gently illuminating the room. Klaus pushed a piece of stray hair off Lucy's peaceful face and leaned down to place a soft kiss on her forehead "I love you Lucetta." Klaus whispered against her skin "Sleep well sweetheart." Klaus said softly before exiting the room and apartment. Lucy's eyes shot open as she heard the door close and once again her tears of grief, pain and confusion began to stream once more.
