It was strange at first. The light moved like a liquid but there was no feeling to it. One second there was a flash and the next the group was standing in the middle of the circle in a strange world. Natsu, Lucy, Gray and Wendy immediately recognized the circle they were standing in as the one that they had been brought to the last time they were there. Around them in the sky constellations and planets shimmered and moved about of their own accord at a slow and regular pace. Below them was the same thing and in front of them a stone path that led farther away into the distance and shot off in different directions all over the place. The group set a guard and waited for Levy to start drawing the circle in their little are.
"As soon as I'm done this it should connect to the other one immediately. We can use it to get back when we need to." The group nodded and continued looking around.
"Luce, do you feel that?" Natsu was sniffing the air.
"Yeah."
"This place is so cool!" Bacchus was spinning on one foot with his arms outstretched, taking in the sites of the strange new world.
"Yeah Luce we should come here more often!" Cana was leaning over the edge of the path and looking down into the space nothing that lay underneath.
"I don't feel any magic." Freed had his sword in hand.
"Neither do I. It feels so different from the last time we were here." Wendy was staring straight upwards and toying with the katana that was strapped to her back. With a sudden intake of breath the Slayer gasped and stepped backwards into Natsu.
"Wendy watch it-" Natsu looked up as well "Oh fuck." The group all raised their heads to stare directly above them and the first of many tears rolled from Lucy's eyes. Above them, floating in silence, was the massive body of the Celestial Spirit King. How nobody had noticed before was unknown as he felt larger than the sky itself. His body was torn and battered, his helmet cracked on the right side and holes in his armour made the once great being seem hollow and empty.
"What. What could have done that?" Lucy was openly weeping now. "What the fuck could have killed the King of the Celestial realm?" Natsu put an arm around Lucy and brought her to his chest where she sobbed for her lost friend.
"We continue up the path." The others nodded at Natsu's suggestion but now everybody had their weapons out.
"I hate this feeling. It's like all the magic of the place has been sucked out of it." Lucy was looking around wild-eyed at the floating galaxies that blanketed the world aorund them.
"That's what's bothering you? Did you not see the giant fucking holes in that guys body? Cause either something really big got him or a whole lot of something swarmed him!" Bacchus was nervously scanning the horizon while twirling a halberd around in his right hand.
"Just keep going alright?" Cana gave the man a quick glance. "We need to see if Loke or anybody else is still alive." Bacchus just nodded and kept walking with his halberd pointing outwards from him. They walked for a few more minutes before reaching an enlarged space that stretched off into the distance. A fountain sprayed its water up to the sky and shone with the light of thousands of stars. It would have been considered beautiful if it wasn't for the water being the colour of blood. Rushing over to it Lucy immediately regretted her decision when she saw what it was, or rather who it was, that had caused the change in the colour of the water. Thinking that tears were no longer possible was a mistake when Lucy got to the fountain and looked into it. It may have only been half of her body, but it was still obviously Aquarius that lay within the murky red water.
"Son of a bitch." The others finally started looking around the courtyard, noticing other pieces of carnage that lay across the cobblestones. A cone that looked like it once belonged to a Nikora laying on its side, the metal tail of Scorpio not far from that and lastly a single golden ring, the finger that it originally rested on a few feet away, laying on the ground close to Lucy. Still crying the girl picked it up and slipped it onto her right middle finger and looked up around the courtyard at the carnage.
"I don't understand. What could have done this?" Cana solemnly looked around when something landed on her shoulder. With a squishing sound like grapes underfoot, a clear ooze dribbled off her shoulder and down her forearm.
"Ugh what the fuck is this?!" Cana looked up and had just enough time to give a loud squeak.
The others all turned to where the jaws had come down and immediately jumped into action when the giant snake flipped its head back and swallowed the mangled body of Cana whole.
"RUN! RUN GODS DAMNED IT RUN!" Everyone took off sprinting for the bridge that led to their portal; everyone except Bacchus that was. With a great war cry he was charging full force at the beast completely ignoring the order to retreat. The thing was massive, its body had been suspended from a planet that seemed so far away from where they were and looked as if it completely covered the floating rock. As it started undwinding itself from the planet like rock the bridge the group was running on seemed to shake and rumble from the sheer weight and size of the thing. While the other ran they heard the war cries of Bacchus from behind them ringing out through the space. Lucy had forgotten her crying, Natsu was pretty much dragging a sobbing Wendy with him and Freed could do nothing more than keep up with Gray while the desperate fight went on behind them. Just as they got to the portal there was a single scream and the sound of bone crunching between large teeth. Nobody looked, nobody wanted to look, instead they all jumped into the portal and out of the living hell without two of their friends. A moments reprieve was all they got though when they emerged on the other side to find nothing but screaming people and blood splattered cobblestones.
Kind of a shorter chapter I know, I needed this one but I just didn't know what to write, sorry! Anyways read and review! Thanks y'all!
