Ch. 25: Taken to the Hospital

Francis arrived shortly after seeing Alfred being put on a stretcher, being hauled to a waiting ambulance. He quickly ran inside and saw his only daughter weeping into a teacher's shirt. Said teacher looked up at Francis.

"Francis? Is that you?" Feli asked.

"Feliciano? What are you doing here?" he answered.

"I'm a teacher here. What about you?"

"I'm here for my daughter, Maddie." He motioned to the still weeping girl in his old classmate's arms. Feli nodded before murmuring to Maddie. She looked up at her daddy afterwards. Francis walked to Maddie and she clung to him, sniffling.

"What happened, Maddie?" he asked quietly, expecting the worst.

She shook her head fast. "Just take me to the hospital."

"You're not hurt, are you?"

"Doesn't matter! Come on!" She grabbed her dad's hand and took off running.

"We'll call you later, Francis!" the brunette called after them.

Maddie ran out to the car. She was already in her seat buckled up when Francis sat down.

"Hurry!" she said frantically. Francis took off after the ambulance as it sped down the road.

Maddie was unusually quiet as they followed Alfred and the ambulance. She might've looked calm on the outside but inside, she was having a heart attack from panicking.

"What happened?"

"G-Gilb-bert sh-shot Alfr-fred, Papa," she said.

He gasped quietly. "He'll be okay, cheri. Does Arthur know?" Francis asked, setting a reassuring hand on her leg.

She shook her head and grabbed her phone from her pocket. She managed to get it back from Gilbert. She searched through her contacts and found Alfred's land line number. It rang for a while. Just when she thought it was going to go to voice mail, Arthur answered.

"Hello?" he asked tiredly. It was almost midnight.

"Arthur, it's me Maddie," she said.

"Madeline? I think Alfred is asleep. Can I take a message?" Maddie tried to hold back a whimper.

"This is about Alfred."

"If he did something, I'm sorry. I'll have him call you later."

"No, he didn't do anything wrong. But something wrong happened to him."

"Go on."

"Alfred, he, uh- Gilbert showed up after school. He took me and later I called Alfred. By the time he got here and had me, Gilbert had gotten hold of a gun. He meant to get me but Alfred jumped in the way." She paused as fresh tears fell. She sniffled. "He got shot around his chest. He is being taken to the hospital as we speak. We are behind it. I'm not sure if he's okay."

Maddie was met with silence.

She continued. "When the paramedics came, they finally found a pulse. That is all I know."

Speaking was not sounded. After a while, rustling could be heard. Arthur cleared his throat. "What hospital did you say he was going to?"

"Hetalia Hospital," she answered calmly.

"Thank you." A car door closing and an engine coming to life could be heard. "And Madeline?"

"Yes?"

"Thanks, dear. I'm sorry," he said.

"Don't be. You must be going through a lot."

"Yeah, but I'll let you go now. I need to get my thoughts organized." The two hung up.

Finally, Maddie and Francis pulled into the hospital's parking lot just in time to see Alfred being hauled out of the ambulance. Maddie ran out of the car over to him and the paramedics.

Surprisingly, none of them complained about Maddie moving next to Alfred and holding his hand. He looked pale and sweaty. His dull blue eyes looked up to Maddie showing her worried face.

Alfred's chapped lips formed into a smile. How he could smile with a bullet in him was far beyond Maddie. When they reached inside the building, Maddie got pushed out the way. She stalked to the waiting room and a nurse walked up to her. He started asking Maddie about Alfred (his name, date of birth, ext).

Francis walked over to Maddie once she answered all the questions. He put an arm around her and sat her down. They both knew that that was going to be a long night.

I just want you to keep in mind that I have never been inside a hospital before and that I have no idea as to what happens while you're in one.
