Will held the papers in his hands. Once he turned them over and looked at them he couldn't take back what was on them. What if there was permanent damage to the young girl's vocal cords? What if he couldn't teach the girl how to talk. Sure she could communicate, but Will had an uneasy feeling in the pit of his stomach. Will knew he wouldn't feel so bad about it if he didn't know the source of the problem. He already wanted to kill those scientist, but as he had been told not to return to California, he couldn't. Maybe that was for the best.

Will exhaled and turned the paper over. The results were better than he had expected but not exactly as good as he hoped. Maybe. Just maybe the young girl would be able to talk. With a lot of help. And he didn't have a clue where he'd find a speech therapist that wouldn't scare the poor girl. Or go straight to the police about all of the "missing children" housed at Camp Half-Blood. Someone would be blamed for a kidnapping ring. When in reality, they were run-aways. Kids that had been abused or neglected by their mortal families and called Camp Half-Blood their home. Or kids that didn't want to put their mortal families at risk by living with them. No amount of Mist would convince someone that these kids were here illegally. That was the truth. That's why no mortal could know the truth. It wasn't about fear. It was about the fact that truthfully, Chiron and Mr. D could be found guilty of kidnapping and harboring runaways. Even though every single one of the demigods at camp was there willingly.

Will headed back to the pavilion he was so angry with the scientist but he couldn't let any of the mutants see that.

He sat down on the bench. He exhaled. He wasn't sure how he was going to explain to this little five year old girl who was scared of practically everyone and everything that she would have to sit with a stranger to learn how to talk.

Luckily, Akiko was in the Big House with Emma. Kal, however was still seated at the picnic table.

"Hey." Will told him.

"What did you find out?" he asked.

Will shook his head. "Maybe. With speech therapy. I don't know how to do that and the people that would could be a huge risk to this place."

Kal looked at him questioningly. "What is this place?"

Will realized hed never told the kids they'd rescued that this was a safe haven for demigods!

"A safe haven. Mostly for demigods."

"Excuse me?"

"You know? Kids of a god and a human?"

"Yeah. I think I read about that a long time ago? But they're just stories."

"They're true. I'm a son of Apollo, the god of healing."

"Is that why you care so much?"

Will shook his head. "No. I care because no child should ever be treated the way those people treated you and the others."

"Can I go?" Will saw the fear in the young mutant's eyes and told him he could go.

Will decided to call it a day on the medical exams. He knew if he kept going at the rate of two a day he wouldn't be finished by the end of the summer. He let himself enterain the dark though that it wasn't like any of them had anywhere to go for the school year for a moment then pushed it out scolding himself for making excuses.

He went to the archery range and shot as many arrows as he could at the targets. When he was finished he went to the Big House and retrieved Akiko and they went back to the Apollo cabin. He decided he'd finish the medical exams within the next week. He really was frightened about if it could get any worse than he'd already seen. He hoped not but he knew it wasn't going to get better.
