As the wall spun back around, the Doctor was greeted by the sight of Rose holding what looked like a large and dangerous gun. She had it pointed at the fireplace while Mickey was tied to the console nearby. Where she had found the rope was even less of a mystery than how she had overpowered Mickey in the first place.
"Impostor," Rose yelled as he moved off the fireplace. The fact that she still thought he was an impostor, after all this time. The Doctor didn't have time for her though. He grabbed the gun out of her hands and pointed at the man. Jack pushed the man out of the way as the Doctor sprayed him with the guns freezing contents. Once the man stopped moving, he pointed the gun towards Rose, but Jack gently pushed the front of it down.
"Ice gun?" Mickey asked in confusion from where he still sat tied up.
"Fire extinguisher," The Doctor answered him distractedly as he moved closer to Jack to have a look at his arm. Thanks to whatever had made him immortal the cut on his arm was already almost healed. The only evidence that he had been cut at all was the ripped shirt and blood. Relieved that Jack was going to be okay, he turned his attention to the man. Jack went to untie Mickey as the Doctor pulled out his glasses. Jack smiled, wishing that he had five minutes alone with the Doctor wearing his thinking glasses.
"Some kind of basic camouflage protocol," The Doctor mumbled to himself as he looked the man over. It was obvious that the man was really an android when he was close to it. The wig and clothes were beautifully stitched which just made it all the more disappointing that the face was a simple mask. He pulled the wig off the androids face to reveal a plexiglass case with clockwork inside of it. He couldn't help the grin that spread over his face as he studied the intricate mechanism that kept the android alive.
"Oh, you are beautiful! No, really, you are. Jack isn't it gorgeous!" The Doctor said cheerfully. Jack didn't share his enthusiasm about praising a droid that just tried to kill them. He wasn't going to take away the Doctor's happiness though.
"Space age clockwork, I love it," Jack answered as he came over to the Doctor again.
"I know I've got chills! Listen, seriously, I mean this from the heart, and, by the way, count those, it would be a crime, it would be an act of vandalism to disassemble you." The Doctor paused as he reached into his suit to pull out his sonic and point it at the android. "But that won't stop me."
The android hit a button that was hidden under its shirt on its wrist beaming away. The Doctor was worried that it had gone back into Reinette's room and jumped back on the fireplace.
"I'll find it," Rose informed them as she started to move away from them.
"Don't go looking for it," The Doctor yelled at her. Like usual Rose ignored him, skipping her way down the long metal corridor of the ship. He had a choice now, he could go check on Reinette, go after Rose or get on his TARDIS and leave Rose behind. He really wanted to go with the third option, but there was a little girl in danger and he couldn't just run away from her when she needed help. "Don't follow her."
"I won't," Mickey informed him.
"Back in a sec," The Doctor told him. He hit the switch on the fireplace once more to send himself into Reinette's room. Jack stood back this time, not going with him. The minute the Doctor was gone he turned to Mickey.
"Go find Rose," He told him. Mickey didn't argue as he went after her. Even in a deserted place like this it was dangerous to leave her alone. Knowing their luck, she would find another door and completely change history. Jack shuddered at the thought of Rose becoming the king's mistress and him accidentally kissing one of her descendants.
The Doctor on the other hand wasn't surprised to find that when the wall turned around it was daylight in the room. The switch was broken after all and he wondered how much time had passed since had had last seen the little girl. The room after all was no longer that of a child's but of an adult. There was even a harp sitting in the room and he ran his fingers across it.
"Reinette? Just checking you're okay," He called out as he played a few more notes on the harp. He had never really been that interested in the instrument but had always enjoyed music. Somewhere hidden in the ship was a room with a piano and he wondered if he was still able to play in this body. Was that a talent that he lost when regenerating? He wasn't sure. He knew his affinity for sports had changed and while his fifth body loved cricket, he couldn't stand the sport now.
"Ahem." A woman clearing her throat distracted him from his thoughts. He looked over to see a beautiful young woman wearing a long gray dress with a blue design on it. Her blonde hair was done up and though her face was still long it was fuller than the child's face. Taking off his glasses he quickly put them in his pocket as he looked at her. He didn't know why but he immediately felt himself attracted to this woman which was unusual. As a Time Lord, it was uncommon for him to feel lust towards anything. Perhaps his relationship with Jack had woken up a part of him that he wasn't use to.
"Hello. Er, I was just looking for Reinette. This is still her room, isn't it? I've been away, not sure how long," He stuttered slightly as she stared at him.
"Reinette! We're ready to go." A woman's voice called from somewhere in the house.
"Go to the carriage, Mother. I will join you there," Reinette called back to her. The Doctor wanted to step back as she moved closer to him. She placed a hand on the side of his face looking deep into his eyes. He could see the bravery in them even now. She wasn't afraid of a man that she had thought of as an imaginary friend as a child. Him standing in her room only made her curious of how he had come back.
"Reinette! Well. Goodness, how you've grown," He commented his voice squeaking more than he liked. He cleared his throat.
"And you do not appear to have aged a single day. That is tremendously impolite of you," Reinette flirted with him. Finding his feet worked again, he took a step back away from her. Her hand brushed across his check as it fell to her side and he felt a shudder of pleasure go up his spine.
"Right, yes, sorry. Listen, lovely to catch up, but better be off, eh? Don't want your mother finding you up here with a strange man, do we?" The Doctor tried. Now that he knew Reinette was fine he just wanted to get back to the ship and find out how to stop the droids. Reinette was persistent though as she followed him.
"Strange? How could you be a stranger to me? I've known you since I was seven years old," Reinette informed him stepping closer to him once more. A man called to her but the Doctor could only hear the blood pounding in his ears as she pressed her lips to his. He couldn't help but kiss her back tasting the sweetness on her lips from the fruit she had for breakfast. He could smell her perfume strongly and he resisted the urge to wrap his arms around her and pull her close.
"Mademoiselle Poisson!" A man yelled interrupting their kiss. She ran away from him and past the servant as he stood their slightly dazed. The words sunk in that he had kissed the future mistress of the Louis the fifteenth. She was an amazing woman. No wonder he had felt attracted to her. "Who the hell are you?!"
"I'm the Doctor, and I just snogged Madame de Pompadour," He laughed as he sent himself back to the room where the rest waited. He wasn't surprised to see that only Jack remained in the room waiting for him. He had expected Mickey to go after Rose as soon as he left. That was alright though. He walked straight to Jack pressing their mouths together. He ran his hands down Jack's suit, pulling down his zipper.
"Doctor," Jack moaned as the Doctor dropped to his knees in front of Jack. Now wasn't the place or the time and he knew it, but he had to satisfy his lust somehow. He couldn't save Reinette if the only thing he could think about was shagging her.
