"Doctor, you really shouldn't be reading that." Rose warned.
The Doctor had been reading a mystery novel that he refused to put down. Rose, knowing what was coming, warned him against him time and time again, but the old fool refused to part with it.
"Doctor, please." She pleaded.
"Oh just another chapter, Rose. It's really getting good." he tried to read to her out loud but Rose just dodged him and made an excuse that she had to wake up Rory and Amy.
It has to happen. I hate that it has to happen, but it has to happen. It's already fixed, and getting more so with every chapter he reads. That stupid stupid man reading a stupid stupid book. Damn Melody for having her publish. I have to lose another family just because of another fixed point in time. He'll have to go back after this too. Back to get me.
"ROSE! We're going to New York. Not New New York, Old New York." The Doctor shouted down the halls until she came to view.
He decided to read out loud while they reclined in Central Park. Rose shuddered while reclining on a large rock next to Rory. Amy and the Doctor were sitting back to back. Amy was reading the New York times, The Doctor was reading his book.
"Doctor, you're doing it again." Amy scolded.
"I'm reading!" he grumbled.
"Out loud." Rose said looking up at him and giving Amy a grin.
"Please could you not." Amy said.
The Doctor turned to look at her, and Amy turned to glare at him. "There's something different about you isn't there?" The Doctor asked.
"What's the book?" Rory asked suddenly.
"Melody Malone! She's a private detective in old town New York." The Doctor said excitedly.
"She's got ice in her heart, a kiss in her lips, and a vulnerable side she keeps well hidden." Amy quipped.
"Oh, you read it?" The Doctor asked confused.
"No. You read it out loud." Rose said.
"And then went 'Yowzah'" Amy finished.
Rory turned to look at the Time Lord, "Only you could fancy someone in a book." he teased.
"I'm only reading. I just like the cover!" The Doctor told him gesturing with the book and making Rose giggle.
"Ooooo!" Amy turned around, "Can we see the cover?" she asked.
"No, no. I'm busy." he said hiding the book. "It's your hair." he sniffed Amy, "Is it your hair?"
"Oh shut up, it's the glasses." She adjusted them, "I'm wearing reading glasses now, on my nose." she tapped them, "See. There you go."
"I don't like them, they make your eyes look all liney." he lifted them up, "No, actually. Sorry, they're fine. Carry on." Amy looked annoyed.
"Okay..." Rory stood up, "I'm going to get us more coffee, who wan't more coffee? Me too, I'll go!" He tried to run off.
"Rory..." Amy stopped him, "Do I have noticeable lines on my eyes now?" she asked.
"Yes." the Doctor answered immediately.
No one noticed Rose struggling with herself. This was the point. This is when she could stop it. If he didn't go to get coffee, the angels wouldn't get him. They would be safe and they could just pack up and leave New York to figure it's own mess out. She didn't notice him walking passed her.
"Dad!" she shouted trying to follow him.
She walked with him, looking around everywhere. Trying to spot them, trying to keep them at bay while carrying the extra coffee cups. She heard the giggling, heard the angels coming. She blinked.
"We were just getting coffee for The Doctor and Amy." Rory said in a shocked voice.
"Hello River." Rose muttered.
"Hello Dad, Rose." River said with a smirk.
"River, what are you doing?!" Rose shouted when a gun was pointed at them.
They were in a car, Rive was explaining the time distortions, like landing a plane in a blizzard. Impossible. Not even she could do it.
"You could, Rose. If you were there." River scolded.
"I tried to stop it happening. I feel like I made it worse." Rose admitted.
"It always happens, fixed points. They always happen." River told her, her tone gentle now.
Rose screamed suddenly. Gold light engulfing her. Pain. The TARDIS was in pain. "HELP ME!" She screamed loudly. "She's hurt!" she screamed. "God she's hurt."
"She's trying to land here." River put her arm on Rose's.
"These two. Put them somewhere uncomfortable." A man was suddenly saying. Rose hadn't realized how much time was passing.
They were led down with the 'babies'. Rose felt the air being sucked from her lungs. The babies were what she had heard earlier. The lights were out.
"Rose...can you..." Rory started.
"I can try." she muttered and focused. A gold light resonated from her filling the room and causing the babies to freeze.
"Good." Rory said moving closer the her.
Rose gasped and her light flickered. Being hurt earlier and being away from the TARDIS was causing her to weaken. "I can't." She whimpered.
"Just keep trying as you can. I'll use the matches." Rory said grabbing them, "They better find us soon."
"He's trying again!" Rose screamed doubling in pain causing her light to flicker on and off faster. "She's locking onto something..."
The babies were moving, coming closer to Rory. The Bad Wolf howled in anger.
She heard him screaming, they were cowering from Rose. Amy came down to find her.
"They took him." she said, a pile of rubble was at her feet.
"You got out." The Doctor said happily when he saw River explain that he was moved through space, not time.
"How did you get your wrist out without breaking it?" Rose asked.
The Doctor grabbed River's wrist. It was broken. "Mel..." Rose mumbled.
"Okay, when both those numbers go to zero, we have a lock. That's when we've found Rory." The Doctor gave the devices to Amy, Rose was sitting next to her sister.
"Why did you lie to us?" The Doctor asked, sitting on her other side.
"When one is the younger sister of an ageless goddess who insists on the face of a nineteen year old, one does ones best to hide the damage." River said, looking at Rose.
"It must hurt. Come here." The Doctor took her hand.
"Yes. The wrist is pretty bad too." River said.
The Doctor looked at her, River looked away. Rose saw the tears in her eyes.
"You know." Rose said.
"I remember it. The alternate Timeline. The Parallel Timeline where you weren't here." River said, "I even remember my original statement."
"River..." Rose started.
"You and him belong together, you two have a relationship I could never have with him. You two always find each other."
The Doctor healed River's hand, using his regenerative energy. "No. Stop that! Stop it!"
"There you go, how is that?" The Doctor asked kissing her hand.
"Well, let's see shall we?" River slapped him. Rose and Amy's eyes grew. "That was a stupid waste of regeneration energy. Nothing is gained by you being a sentimental idiot!"
"River!" He shouted.
"No! You embarrass me!" She got up.
"River!" The Doctor groaned. Rose stood up to follow River and Amy walked over to him, "Tell you what." River's mother said, "Stick to the science." She stormed out after them.
"Okay." Amy started, "Why did you lie?"
"Never let him see the damage." River said, she turned to Amy again, "And never, ever let him see you age. He doesn't like endings."
"River.." Rose started.
"That's why I let it happen, Rose. My story will end, yours will go on forever."
Rose was going to answer when the Doctor ran out. They knew where to find Rory.
It was over.
They were gone.
Amy.
Rory.
Gone.
