Kurt had constantly been watching Blaine's face for a reaction ever since finally coming out with his choice, if you'll pardon the pun. It seemed that Blaine hadn't really heard him at first, or hadn't exactly registered the news until about thirty seconds later when he started to grin like a madman. It was the cutest thing Kurt had ever seen. Those eyes had been alight with so many emotions, too many more Kurt to catch properly before Jake had ended up distracting him by throwing a hissy fit.
To be honest, Kurt didn't want to have to deal with someone who he couldn't fully trust. Something just didn't seem right with the boy's excuses, and his reaction to Kurt's choice had only worked to strengthen Kurt's resolve about picking Blaine. Jake was such a drama queen, and there was only room for one of those in his relationships; yours truly. But also, Kurt couldn't deny how his subconscious had always been drifting toward Blaine from the moment they'd met.
Blaine had just stood out so much, in his demeanour, personality and looks. All of the other boys had been unique in their own way but had ultimately kind of blended together in Kurt's eyes. Blaine had been set apart from all of them, even if he hadn't fully realised it before.
Kurt had tried to quell the blush that had been his reaction to David's earlier statement, noticing that Blaine had that look on his face again. The look where he looked annoyed with them but fond at the same time, like a sort of resigned parent. The expression made a smile tug at the corner of Kurt's mouth. It had now been a few awkward seconds since the boys had 'left', and frankly Kurt wasn't sure what to say, which was left him feeling a bit ridiculous. Who on earth found it awkward to talk to their boyfriend?
Well how many people had gone through all this shenanigans to find a boyfriend? Not too many. And the show had never captured any of this, much to Kurt's annoyance. Blaine still looked a little shell-shocked, but happy at the same time. At last the other boy cleared his throat.
"Thank you, Kurt." Those beautiful hazel (Kurt refused to describe them as any form of gold, ever since Twilight had ruined that description in his opinion) eyes were trained on the ground first before travelling up to meet Kurt's.
He was confused. "What for?"
"Well, for a number of things. For still giving me a chance after I acted 'like a douche' according to Wes. For believing me when I told you about Jake, even though it could be that I was wrong after all. And..." He paused here, and the look in his eyes had Kurt's stomach doing belly-flops. "most of all, thank you for picking me in the end." Kurt tried to say something but Blaine held up a hand. He seemed to be struggling to pick the right words, hesitating and pausing every so often.
"You're so...different, Kurt...different to everyone I've ever met. Different in the best possible ways. Of all the things I was expecting when I first came here, this definitely wasn't it. You were not what I expected."
Here he paused long enough for Kurt to seize his chance and speak. "I never really hoped anything could come of this. It was just another one of Sue's schemes to me when I first heard about it, but at the same time there was that small ounce of hope. I thought I wouldn't have anything to lose, or anything to gain from it. I mean, less than two weeks isn't really enough to fall in love with somebody in my opinion...but I do know that I like you. I like you a lot, Blaine."
This speech was totally out of character for Kurt and inside he was shrieking at himself. Stop talking, Kurt, before you freak him out and scare him away! Kurt could hardly believe he was talking like this. It was so much less...guarded than he was used to. Outwardly confessing feelings wasn't something he had ever expected to happen whilst he still attended high school. Much to Kurt's relief, Blaine was smiling wider now, and he pretty much lost his train of thought right then.
"I'm glad you do, otherwise everything I've been saying would have just made this a thousand times more awkward." Kurt chuckled at this, and almost didn't notice when he felt the other boy's fingers tentatively linking up with his. He looked down at their entwined hands, the gesture meaning so much more than Blaine knew. It made Kurt feel so much closer to him right now; it was just like he had known the perfect thing to do. To be able to hold hands with a boy like this, to be able to call someone like Blaine his boyfriend, none of it seemed real.
Perhaps Kurt would just wake up and this whole thing would be just a dream. Sue would never have ordered the Cheerios to find boyfriends, never organised all those boys to come to the gym, Kurt wouldn't have had to go out with all of them, watch that talent show, and get wrapped up in the final drama between Jake and Blaine. This was all just too good to be true.
"Kurt? Kurt, are you alright?" Blaine's voice brought Kurt back to reality, and he looked up to see Blaine watching him with concern. He smiled when Kurt focused on him properly, squeezing his fingers.
"I'm sorry; I sort of drifted off for a minute." Kurt answered, "What were you saying?"
Blaine nodded back towards his friends. "I was saying, do you want to get out of here so we can stop those two from currently live-streaming us right now?" Kurt looked over his shoulder just in time to see a camera being hastily whipped out of sight, replaced by two familiar 'We are innocent' expressions that didn't fool him for even a second. He nodded and they walked towards his car before Kurt stopped.
"Wait, didn't you get here with them?"
"Yeah, why?" Blaine looked confused at the question as he glanced back towards the blazer-clad boys.
"How will you get back?"
"You do realise that when I leave they will be right outside the building. Don't worry about me getting back."
"I should have known." Kurt said with a smile, shaking his head as they climbed into the Navigator and he switched on the ignition.
"Don't worry; it gets easier after a while. They are quite predictable." True, when Kurt looked in his rear-view mirror he saw the familiar car following them up the road.
There was silence for a minute or two before Kurt spoke up.
"So, how are you actually feeling right now?" The question was blunt, he knew, but he was desperate to know. He couldn't actually look over and see Blaine's reaction to his question because he happened to be driving, but Kurt could almost imagine his face.
"Well, happy, obviously. I mean it's not every day this sort of thing happens to me." Kurt could almost hear Blaine thinking of how best to phrase his answer. Blaine went on, "Happy...but kind of worried at the same time. Like, I know we'll have plenty of opportunities to talk and spend time together, but this situation is so foreign to both of us, and I'm just worried that I'll do something or say something that is going make you regret your decision."
Blaine broke off abruptly, waiting for his response. Kurt however had really been struck by what he'd said. Mainly because he felt exactly the same way. It was good to know that Blaine had these insecurities as well as him, but at the same time Kurt didn't want either of them to be afraid.
"I know what you mean," he said quietly, eyes on the road ahead of them. "Sort of like, what do I do know? It's like Sue's just gone to me and said, 'here's your new boyfriend, off you go'. I have no idea what I'm supposed to do; I've never been in a relationship before. We've barely had time to get to know each other, and this is something that really does worry me." Kurt had been thinking about this particular problem a lot during the course of the last few days, especially when pondering his choice.
Blaine's hand squeezed his, as the boy replied. "Well, Wes and David have been badgering me to bring you around to Dalton you know, meet the other Warblers, and so on. They started betting on who you would choose. They were kept informed by all the videos Wes shot during the rounds when no one seemed to be paying attention. They're dying to meet you, to the point where the Warblers were considering doing an impromptu performance outside McKinley."
Kurt laughed out loud at the thought of this, picturing a large group of Wes and Davids all dancing around in the McKinley parking lot in their uniforms. He honestly couldn't picture what the other Warblers would look like, though he'd been told several stories about them during his time with Blaine and some of their conversations on the phone.
"I can believe the betting thing. The New Directions were doing the exact same thing. I swear, they're making so much money out of me I think I should totally get a percentage. A large one. And as for coming to Dalton, I really would love to. I promise I won't report back to Rachel."
Blaine covered his mouth in an attempt to hide the smirk that he knew Kurt couldn't really look at anyway. "I can so imagine you trying to spy on Dalton. You would stand out so much!" Kurt huffed indignantly at this, although pouting at a windscreen didn't have the desired effect.
"I would be a great spy and you know it. I could probably imitate the uniform and everything."
"Mhm, yeah, sure." At this, Kurt finally pulled over onto the side of the road, and turned off the ignition, before turning to properly bestow on Blaine the full force of his glare.
"I bet you that I could spy on the Warblers without them noticing it."
"Oh really," Blaine held back a laugh. "How are you gonna manage to do that. Wes gets touchy when people try that sort of thing. There have been injuries in the past."
"You'll see." Kurt didn't have any trouble sounding confident. He was already mapping out what he would need, and what he already had.
"And if you don't?" His boyfriend asked, with a funny glint in his eye which should have warned Kurt.
He took a breath, thinking hard. "If I don't, then I will let Rachel coordinate my outfits for the next month." The mere thought of that made him shudder with horror, his mind flooded with images of polyester and animal prints.
"And if I do," Kurt added, "then you have to sacrifice something equally precious for a month. Perhaps your hair gel." Blaine's free hand automatically flew to touch his hair protectively, before he nodded.
"Deal."
"Deal." At this, Blaine leaned forward, one hand cupping Kurt's neck, and pressed his lips to his boyfriend's for their first kiss as a couple, sealing the deal.
I'm sorry *wails* no matter how many millions of fluff fics I read, my fluff writing just goes down the drain. I tried to insert a little bit, and I have no idea where this bet thing came up from. I was gonna have the punishment be something like one has to do a favour for the other, but it kept sounding dirty in my guttered mind, so yeah.
So I'm thinking, after the Dalton thingy, should I just finish there? Should there me more? Should there be some sequel? Honestly, any of these options I'm happy with, only now Kurt's chosen I kind of need a plot to follow (NO, I will not be writing smut. I can hardly even read it, and the M fics I read, I end up skipping the smut.), so if you have any ideas don't hesitate to let me know your thoughts on the length of this story.
This chapter was easier to write than expected, took just over an hour, which is probably one of my fastest. I'm so happy after how long yesterday's took me. Maybe listening to SOWK on repeat again was a good idea...
Thank you again for reading, reviewing, alerting, favouriting, breathing, typing, Klaining. I honestly could not have imagined this response and I am eternally grateful to all of you and to the original prompter.
